Soma's NYCD behaving oddly

Hello,

I bought a single bean of Soma's NYCD (I am poor and they are expensive! ;0)
and I popped it right away.

It germinated fine and went right into a beer cup and then a 4" pot.

It handled the training that I gave it well. It pruned it down to a mainline
and topped it to two tops.

After:

When I topped it to four tops, taking the results as clones for the
clone tray. Here: I noticed that the clones all started to show sex,
starting to flower clearly.

A Clone, flowering:

(They got roots, and I am hoping to reverse one of them.)

The results looked great for a week or so:

But then she started to flower.

Note: These plants have 7/24 lights on (combo of T8s and T5s...plenty!)

Here she is today:

I checked the invoice, from Attitude, and confirmed that this was
a fem bean, but it was NOT and auto,

WTF?!? Can anyone shed any light on this?

I have written to Soma. No response yet.

Thank you for any and all pointers.

JD

There isn't any sign of a deficiency with this plant though, especially not N.

I would think that it freaked out from the extreme training that it went through at an early stage in its life, especially if it was all at once.

I understand.

(I appreciate the N thought....that might be the reason next time. :0)

As to the all-at-one thing. I did top it down to the main line, and trimmed
the growth lower down, but the topping to four, from two, came later.

In any case, would this reaction lead to a plant unable to re-Veg?

I think that I am going to pull the hempy, and let the clones try to re-Veg.

Bummer!

Thanks for the time.

FWIW, I have pulled the Flowering plant.

I have the clones to try to re-Veg. If that works, then I will
have the restart that I want.

I have written to Attitude as well as Soma. Soma for advice, and
The Attitude because it really does seem as if they sent me an
Auto bean.

Who can explain a clone flowering and refusing to re-Veg otherwise?

Onward and upward,

JD

I just joined this forum to reply to your post.. I bought some nycd Christmas of 2013. I planted three seeds and all three have flowered under 24 hours of lighting. Never had this happen ever. Am curious if others are experiencing the same issue.

I'm kinda with 'who dat is', if it isn't auto.

1st picture I see a healthy happy plant.

2nd picture I see a totally chopped, traumatized plant. You shouldn't stress a plant that much removing all the tops at once. Not a good idea. I don't even remove one top, just train.

put the lights on 18/6. give more nitrogen. also transplant to a bigger pot. i've had plants...oddly enough a ecsd cross start flowering on me in veg. cuz the roots were cramped most likely cause.

extreme stress causes odd things..The plants first priority is to reproduce. If the plant senses impending doom they flower or herm out.

this is strange though, even if you were extreme with the clone taking, normally she should have took it in her stride.

interestingly enough i heard it talked about recently that seed makers are crossing in auto traits to stop you cloning the strain, so far i hadn't seen it, but it makes sense in a way, they want to stop you making clones, that way you have to keep buying the seeds if you want that strain.

although i am having a hard time to actually believe we are there already. also how would you cross something like a auto trait that kicks in when you clone? maybe it was a freak of nature? or maybe you are fucking with us and it was in the 12/12 space, lol.

imho you topped the plant too early.
usually i wait till the plant has 3-4 internode before i start training/topping.

Just for reference. You can top plants as early and as often as you want to. It does not harm the plant, nor does it cause flowering.

I've had the same experience as GMT. But I still don't understand why you pulled the plant. -granger
