IMO, if you got runoff with a quarter of a gallon using 3 gal pots, you're watering too much.

Did somebody here say they gave their 3gal pot a gal of water per feeding?

Yes I did say that. Once a day or every other day. If I skip a day I may need 1 1/4 gallon to achieve runoff.

After some searching, a 5 gallon nursery pot actually holds 3.9 gallons. I leave two inches unfilled to make watering easier so I'd say I use 3.5 gallons of coco.

3 quarts of water will not achieve runoff in my situation.

Hey Relentless- I've had the very same problem before with one strain yellowing out. I attributed to lack of nitrogen. It was result of overwatering which was clear when I pulled plants. Heavier pots clear indication of too much water.
