BOG: Barrel of Green - Build

A few years ago I ran across a Russian website that had a Barrel of Green grow that looked like fun. Here's a few pics of that guy's grow where he pulled 6 ounces from a 150w.

Anyway I have always wanted to try one these grows for myself, so here we go! This is really just for fun, so win or lose, I'll be happy! Happier if it's successful of course

I picked up some barrels today:

7up for scale:

Dimensions for each bucket:

21.5" Diameter
16.5" Height
17 Gallons

So that's about as far as I have gotten. I am crunching some numbers on what I am going to do as far as ventilation and lighting, and I will update as I continue.

Wow! That screen looks as packed as the inside of an Omega Garden unit. Any idea of what kind of weight a barrel grow this size yields?

Well I know the grower from the OP that I am copying the design from pulled 170 grams from a 150w hps. Roughly 1.13 GPW.

My barrel is quite a bit smaller than his. His buckets were 90 liters or around 23 US gallons. Mine are about 64 liters or around 17 US gallons. So I doubt I will be running as many watts as he did.

I haven't seen too many of these grows though, so hard to judge. I will be happy with any herb at all

That being said, I hope you smash the fuck out this grow dude.

I think if you over kill on the ventilation you'll be golden. How stealth do you need/want it to be or is that even a concern?

Well stealth is always concern. However the tub is going to sit in a locked bedroom, in the basement, that is insulated and finished, and air conditioned. Plus, I am the only one that ever goes into the basement. You can't really hear anything from down there upstairs, and it stays really cool down there all year long.

Neat concept. There is a micro Russian grower on here that was a wizard when it came to pulling decent numbers from small grows. Forgot his name, but I'm sure you'll find his thread if you go back a few pages.

He did a similar vert grow, but used the shell of a vacuum cleaner for his barrel grow. I think he then went on to grow in a sub woofer?

you should run a bog strain lol. a bog bog....good luck..... I actually grew in a trashcan once...don't remember my yield as it was long ago and just a side project...was with an incandescent plant bulb,,,,,,like a floodlight

Hey all

Thanks for the link to the Russian guy's thread. I had seen that years ago, but it was nice to look at again. Very inspirational.

I actually thought about a BOG strain as well haha! That would be funny, but I don't think I have time to order beans unfortunately.

I took some measurements, did some math, and ordered some gear so lookout for some build shots hopefully early next week.

Popping beans this weekend I think. I am still debating that, but I can always go with cuttings if I change my mind.

Hi folks.

Just wanted to let you guys know I haven't forgotten this grow, but life got in the way for a minute. My grandma has been in rehabilitation since having 4 strokes in a week about 2 months ago. Terrible, but she's a tough woman for being 85 years old.

Kind of a weird issue has come up at the house the house though. When I flip a light switch or turn on a lamp I am blowing bulbs all of a sudden. Normal house bulbs I mean, not grow lights. I have blown about 5 or 6 in 3 days. I have a cousin who knows electrical real well so I am trying to get him over here. Holiday weekend though.

I will keep you guys posted.
