Hello EveryOne New Grower Here!

I just wanted to post and introduce myself. I am a new grower and this is my first real grow. I attempted a grow once before, but the seeds were bag seeds from good sour NY diesel, but still bag seeds none the less. This time I purchased some good genetics and I'm starting fresh.

To start, I took the time and have read and reference the book Cannabis Cultivation- A complete growers guide 3rd edition by Mel Thomas.

Secondly, I purchased some good seeds from seedbay and think that this will make a big difference.

The first strain I'm growing is SF Kabookie 13 Hillbilly Purple Kush. It is a Hand pollen chucked strain of a RVL Hillbilly Haze & Hindu Kush Female breed with a Male Reefer Man Seeds Early Purple Kush. The Plants characteristics are mostly Indica, medium height, and medium to fast flowering. The seeds were harvested in 2011.
The second strain is Med-Man Brand Silver Skunk BX1. I don't have the specific genetic information but I can tell you the seeds are smaller than the average seeds and sprouted very fast. It grew a 1/4" tap root in just one day in paper towels and is already in soil.
For lights I am using a 24" Grow bar, along with 2 55watt CFL's- 3800 lumens each and 4 26watt-150w equiv. CFL's. I know that I could use some better lights and plan on getting a better light setup soon.
I have them on a 24/0 cycle right now because I have noticed that with my last try the plants tend to grow 10% faster under 24 hours of light plus using CFL's I figured the more light the better because CFL's don't always provide as much as other lighting methods.
I would love to here some tips and feedback from anyone willing to offer them.

Thanks,

NYUF :tiphat:

Welcome to ICmag NYurban bro

An 18/6 cycle is beneficial, plants do respire significantly more at night and they will stretch a bit then start to look sad and confused and stressed. For me they do better under 18/6 than 20/4 as well..

The more pictures you put up the faster you will learn feedback wise. Under cfls the trick is to work the plant into a low flat canopy with the lights like 2-4" away from all the nugs.. people either pinch and work them, tie them down in anyway you can imagine or use screens as is a scrog, screen of green, where you would let the plant get about 18" high then bend the plant under a screen, netting or mesh, and work all the shoots through the screen thus hopefully keeping a canopy and helping as much of the plant get as much light as possible.. the canopy penetration with cfls is almost non existent so the taller they get the more you lose out.

Happy growing! :smokeit:

Lost at sea thank you for the feedback. I will post some pictures in the growers forum as soon as I can. Right now They are only seedlings so as soon as they sprout some leaves other than their two baby leaves I will get a grow logs going.

Great to here from you,
