I want to grow big plants indoors under 5k lights. If I veg my plants for 4 months in soil, how many gallons is enough? Is bigger better? I've been thinking about using 50+ gallons of soil per plant transplanted straight from cutting. Will my plant grow faster and bigger in the 50 gallon than if I were to use a 20 gallon pot? I may even jump up to 100 gallon pots if plants will grow faster in them. If so by using huge pots, soil growth can be comparable to coco growth rates, correct me if I'm wrong.

My favorite soil tree thread is "maine medical garden" posted by Aeroguerilla, I strongly recommend reading through that to get some good base info.... He does 45 gallon pots and pulls 1lb plants with 2 months veg and 1k per plant. So if you were doing 4 months I would def go for 75-100 gallons.
That having been said, I think that anything beyond 2 months veg is really gonna come up short in the long run. There are plenty of people harvesting massive quantities with 2 months veg, and figure you have 3 grows a year with 2 months but only 2 grows with a 4 month veg.... Or give coco a shot and have 1 month veg with the same results as 2 or 3 the old fashioned way

From someone who has a large electric bill... I would suggest figuring it out on a small scale first... then move up. Figure out what works. then try and shoot for the clouds... just a suggestion. You want to be very confident running a bunch of lights. thats a hefty electric bill every month.
another think w/ big indoor plants....there HEAVY, how the hell U going to move a 100 gal container....
unless it's on wheels.... r a pallet jack.... just my experience...

I'm not sure what strains yet, I've been looking into something that finishes fast so I can minimize my veg time.
I'm a med patient and can only have 12 plants max. I can still run a perpetual harvest every 2 months though. I'm going to do 4 in flower and 8 in veg, 4 of which are 2 months apart. Thats how I get a 4 month veg. I'm still trying to figure if theres a better arrangement for larger yields. I've done coco in hempy buckets before and its good but I'm tired mixing chemicals and having all those bottles laying around. I'm going to read aeroguerillas grow. Sounds interesting. Thanks for the advice.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to start off small, I'm still in the planning stages right now.
Each pot will have its own casters. My biggest concern is how I'm going to move them through a door. How long did you veg for?

check out the vertical lighting setup of an X formation for the lights. That seems like it would work well for you since you already have 5 1000w'ers..

From someone who has tried VERY hard to have a perpetual harvest... its really not worth the hassle... grow 12 big giants.. harvest em all at the same time. then you dry at the same time. trim at the same time... you work in clusters.. not a constant. To me it feels like im trying to walk thru sand when i do the perpetual harvest.. there is just alot of added work... thats why people LOVE outdoor so much. 1 and done.
Yes I've been looking into a 4 tree grow with 5 lights vertical. Not the most efficient setup but it keeps me under my limit and yields decent.
I get what you're saying I'd love for it to be that much less work but if I did 12 at the same time I would only get a couple harvests a year. I'm trying to pump out as much as I can for now. I usually smoke in my grow rooms so I'm in there quite often anyways. This time I'm going organic soil it should be a lot less work. No ph, no ppms, buckets, pumps, hoses that hydro stuff.

theres no reason to use over 30 gallons indoors unless your running 1 plant per 2 lights.. then go bigger and scrog your room.. but ur best bet is perpetual.. use 5 k in lites.. set up 2 flower rooms with 2 k in each.. and a veg with 1 k.. and then have 1 start flowering.. then 30-40 days later start the next in flower.. and keep your veg room full of plants to replace what you chop.. PERPETUAL is the best.. i like chopping.. drying.. trimming.. wen done trimming.. u get a week or 2 rest.. then chop and trim.. and during the 2 week rest of trimming u get your plants ready for both rooms.. fill first set into flower.. and then once u chop second toss into flower again.. boom boom .. lots of work. but lots of REWARD..
Well I'm planning to grow 6+ feet tall plants that are 5 feet in diameter. I'm using 5 lights for 4 plants. For veg I'm probably going to use 2k in lights. I'm copying someones vertical grow with the same plant/light layout and he is pulling good yield from it. Do you think I should really stay under 30 gallons? I'm trying to figure out if the extra soil will benefit and have been getting mixed responses. Maybe I will have to try do a side by side and see if plants grow faster in bigger containers.
Growing in soil is absolutely about container size, the more root mass the more food the plant can take up and the better the yield will be. look at the guys that go big outdoors they are in 200lb pots and up.... Once again my first choice would be coco if your going for weight but sounds like you got your mind made up so Im not gonna hate. Doing 4 month veg indoor I'd be doing 100lb plants on castors, look at using compost teas.. also do vertical lighting so you can hit those monsters from all sides

im confused on how you would get more of a yield off perpetual harvests... I understand throwing one into flower early so you have something to smoke on... but mark my words.. it may be a year it may be two years from now... but you will see... perpetual sucks.. unlesss you have workers... haha
I've done perpetual before where I was the worker. Thats hydro also with about 18kw in flower. Not easy I know but perpetual harvests is how I can get a steady supply of smoke and income which helps me live through hard times. I don't have much of a busy lifestyle so putting a few hours a day into the plants is no problem. If I was to do 12 plants I would try to max my yield and use the 12 plant 13 light vertical layout. Its possible I will do that in the future. I will have to calculate the amount of time and lights each would use and see which gets better gpw.
