GRS 5g in Monstrous Mounds

Super exciting time of the year! The girls are going strong, and I'm working hard setting up my new spot. Last year I grew all Ganja Rebel Seeds Blue Dream BX in trenches and had an amazing season. Made a few mistakes, but learned a ton. Hoping for a even better season this year. Open to all suggestions and advice. I've been learning how to do things outside for some years now. But I still have a lot to learn, and benefit from knowing how others do things.

Heres the Blue Dream

This year I was lucky enough to score some 5g seeds after a long ride up to Humboldt. I've got blue, yellow, and reds started about 3 weeks ago. All I know about the 5g is what I've heard on here, and it sounds like a winner.
Heres a happy lady

Last year my spacing was horrible because of an ordinance limiting canopy size. Rows were 8 feet apart on center, and plants only 6 feet apart within the rows. Made for a real jungle.

This year all plants will be 14' on center for lots more room!
The plan as of now is to give each plant 2 to 3 yards of premium soil, and plant in individual mounds instead of trenches. I think I got pretty lucky with the native soil in the garden. Here are the results from the soil test I had done.

I was going to amend the native soil a bit, but it seems like its already pretty charged. I was just going to use limestone to adjust ph, and put some gypsum down now. There's plenty of drainage with all the rock in there.I figure I'm better off using most the amendment money on more premium soil instead. Any thoughts?

Also I've been debating making hardware cloth beds around my mounds to keep varmints out. There seems to be a lot of tunneling/dirt piles on the lower part of my property. I have the garden up high on a steep hill, where the soil is much rockier then down low. We jackhammered out allot of boulders and, there are still plenty left. It does not seem like gopher territory at all up top, and I haven't seen any evidence of them. My concern is that they find their way to the top of my hill, and feast within the mounds. I plan on lining the perimeter with sonar/scent repellent. What do you all think about lining the mounds with hardware cloth?

Thanks for checking things out. Excited to share the experience!

Awesome grs grow! Can't wait to see how these turn out. I have blue f2, and other 5g crosses. The payment for my red and purple f2 disappeared on its way:( Good luck!

I say go with the hardware cloth or some gopher wire. Too much work and time goes in to let a critter get ya at the end. It doesn't take em' long either. I had a nice fat chem d get finished off in two days by one gopher. I thought it was just a little under watered then it just fell over with a small breeze. BTW I'm runnin some of those blues and yellows down here too, lets see em blast off!

Nice pics man. I def think mounds have some advantages over trenches so I'm interested in seeing how your experience changes vs. last year.

Damn, I can't even imagine what it must be like to grow right in the open like that!

sick, i'm in on this..

we've been considering 3 yard mounds this year, I really dont want to dish out 80 bucks a piece for smarties but we never used mounds before... how do you tend the plants without walkin on the roots?

We did something similar last year with 1/4" hardware cloth and i guess it worked because we had no issues with gophers etc

the same way you dont walk on your smartpots lol

if it helps, you can add some river rock around the edge of the mounds to help you and your friends distinguish where they start

They look nice and uniform. Your gonna have some beautiful flowers come fall. Are you running anything else besides the 5G's Red, Yellow, and Blue F3's?

Napali, I don't want to try and hijack or be a pest in this thread so I'm asking, Do you mind if I post some pics of my grs grow in here? You and I are around the same stage of development (you are maybe a week or two ahead of me it appears) and I wouldn't mind comparing notes and pics.

Hell ya, post away. I have no experience with the 5g other then what I've read on icmag. So let us know how their going for you.

Ganja- I also started some HSO blue dreams that i bought before picking up your seeds. I'm going to just run the 5gs though. Any tips/info specific to the 5gs? Were supper excited! The blue dreams were started a week earlier, and the 5gs are already surpassing them. Thanks for the superior seed stock!

Schrews- I've never run mounds, or known anyone who has. I'm going to figure things out as I go along with them. Any tips specific to using mounds?

where did you get your soil tested at??

what are the 5g's crossed with??

how was the yield on your blue dream crosses last year??

thanks!!!

got the soil testing done here. http://soiltest.umass.edu/
had my results within two weeks of sending it in.

The 5g is (Sour Diesel X F13) X (OG x Chemdog) x C99)

blue dream yielded 5 to 8 each, with horrible spacing. With better spacing I think they would have yielded twice that amount.
