If you're worried about sound then be sure to use R-8 flex duct everywhere. Don't skimp and use uninsulated or even the R-6. That extra bit of insulation will really help cut down on noise. Also consider installing your fans within a box or rubbermaid bin packed with old blankets. Cut holes on either end for your R-8 ducting to run into and mount to your fan and stuff all that stuff around the fan and ducting. Lastly have your fan on a speed adjuster as I'm sure you're aware to dial up or down your fan speed as necessary. You will be amazed at how much of a difference in noise reduction these steps will do for you.

I apologize if I'm already preaching to the choir though.

Chuck these interior decorating notions and get on with the show!

Hey Bud,

Yeah, I think I'm overkill and with a push pull set up. So I'm still looking at the q max fan 10". It provides a bit more than 1000 cfm unloaded of course, but I've heard that it is whisper quiet. the silencer is built in so a bit of a space savings there.

I'm making progress on the room. On my second layer of plywood now. Running low on green glue and I think I'm going to be a few tubes short unfortunately... Will have to ebay some leftovers from someone.

Its coming along well though. I'm sick of the accoustic glue and sealing every screw hole and crack. I'm sealing each layer before proceeding to the next layer of the ply walls. I'm definitely noticing less sound now from the house or from the studio to the house. nice.

Whatever you decide Mc kush just razzin ya abit as its going to be one stealth well built room rather than a hasty one that you have to keep upgrading like mine lol. If you go with a mini split heat will never be a prob for you, one day on my bucket list ,keep rocking in the free world.Bud

Hey Bud, yes sir. I'm doing a single but maybe a multi zone one. Spring is finally raising her head here. My area is so tightly sealed up and insulated too that any other way is a waste of time. It took me a while to learn about CEA but I'm a believer now.

Once I finish sound proofing I'll build my divider wall and install a door with lock. I want the FR to be behind 2 locked doors. I'm working on ideas now to secure the front door with 2 deadbolts. Finished result needs to be sedate looking from the outside.

at last, for the reading English challanged, picturds:

(spelling was intentional dudes, stop right there)

Some older build pics of the floor. then I'll skip ahead and do the recent pics.

Simple cutout for a simple floor...

The cut out on the floor is an access trap door for the sump area and plumbing. I'll run a 1 1/2 " drain line and and additional smaller drain line for dehumi and piss... oh yeah, I'll have a pee funnel again some day. My old set up had a funnel duck taped to a yard hose, I loved peeing out there. Toilets ruin the man fun.

Ok, jumping ahead of our story to recent build pics. I've still got a few stories to tell though, so I'll come back at some point.

Here is a shot looking down towards the VR locker and FR. A single layer of plywood waiting for the next layer...

all the screw holes & seams/cracks get acoustic sealant applied till the surfaces are filled and smooth. You try to avoid the screws from one layer touching the wood of the next layer. Ideally I want green glue evenly floating the two surfaces and preventing them from contact.

picture.php

Future VR locker. The open rectangle will have a flush floor cover on it. I'll be able to lift the cover out if I want to give me a 10'2" floor to ceiling height if I want the space in the FR. Otherwise I can keep the small gals down there. I can also run a sheet across that 5" beam and create another smaller FR or make it a teenager area. So I could have three separated rooms (small for sure but adequate for me) or 2 rooms FR & VR locker, or a single room for veg then flower.

A wall bent in a slight Z will separate the growing area from the studio/lung area.

pex tubing

That grow room is taking shape. I'm excited to see how it turns out with the herb in there.

Just joined this site after reading this 17 page journal...gee wiss/nice effort on this floor system?

If it were me I would have pulled this build off in a few days/maybe 7 days top's...but I build for a living in california.

First design change
form and pour concrete basin(and catch the under pin of existing foundation at the same time
Second/add 1/2" pex tubing in the concrete walls and floor...run in a loop fashion 6"oc spacing/buy an electric heater say 10 gallon and a timer and a 1/25hp circ pump
install your drain/use a silent giant sump pump
fans/use an old fau squirrel cage any cfm will do...starting at 1000cfm/build the hepa filter box to the demension(sp)to what is on the floor at local hardware store.

thats all for now:dance013:

Thanks Pakalolo. I'm getting there. Spring break has slowed my progress but family time means more to me than anything... I'll be online sometime when I'm ready to be. Yah man I'm enjoying the trip.

Peace Pakalolo. I'm in Cali on a high Hill. It's dark and I'm on my third of many bowls which my good friend and golf buddy hooked me up. Long day but it's getting quite alright with me.

Hey Bud. On my last few days of a two week spring break. So I've not been building much. But prior to break I was making progress for sure. I'm out of green glue and had to order another box of twelve tubes. I'm sick of the green glue by now. It's messy and heavy to lift too...

When I get back I can start the divider wall frame.

Going surfing tomorrow! It's a bucket list item for me.

Surfing was the highlight of the week.

Making progress and framing the divider wall and door. Going to build my own custom door to save money and space.

Be careful with that. I don't know how much from scratch you're talking but I know I had a difficult time making a door blank fit to an existing frame. Be careful with the alignment of the hinges and especially the door knob.

True dat who dat.

Ive already tore down my initial door rough frame on one side and re framed it so it was more square. Im making my own frame so I do have all the control. But ive trimmed and installed door frames before too. So I may fuck it up some more but I can always stop and fix it. Squareness is your friend.

This will provide me with a thick assed door which is both more fire resistant and sound abatement. Saves me some money too.

No door knob needed but a door handle. Ill lock with 2 cylinder deadbolts. Door hinges is the important and tricky part.

Ok minions, time for an update. These are fairly recent pictures of the build. I've got hundreds more of the build but I'm too lazy and you are too

too lazy to look at all the pictures I've taken, I mean. Not that you are totally lazy in all respects but you could stand to loose a few, just saying.

This is a pic from within the main FR looking at the VR locker and small FR side or Teenager area if I go to three rooms. My design criteria was to allow from 1 to 3 rooms within the grow area and the studio area is my lung room.

The orange storage container is sitting in the Veggie locker/sump area. You can see how it is opened to the top and to the right. I'll probably flexibly partition off the bottom but I want to be able to have it wide open too for big grows. (Veg/Grow sequentially in the same room with the big footprint.)

picture.php

picture.php

A pic of the ceiling where I've been playing with light locations. I have a weird foot print when the FR is wide open so I'm trying to determine how best to orient two Epaps. I nearly backtracked and got a Dpap for the teenager side but its bigger brother is better suited for my needs.

picture.php

That is an 8' ladder to give you a perspective on just how high the ceiling is. You really feel weird in there which I likey. Its like climbing down into a space ship. The volume on the inside seems much larger than its foot print which is what I think gives me that feeling. Anyway I like spending time in here just admiring the work I've put into the build and deriving much satisfaction. I'm glad I haven't short cut this process. Even though once I'm done and run a few times, I'll surely see the weaknesses which I'll address when I know about them....

picture.php

This is my schlong, I mean I'm standing in the FR side at the doorway and looking towards the lung room. I've got a 2 2x4 lip at the door way which I'll use to seal up the access well. I'm going to need to fashion a ladder for safety and I'll have hand rails on either side of the door for safety. Probably going to have a chain or two across the door on the inside of the FR with a safety sign hanging from the chain. My big concern is for safety of the room systems and also occupant safety. I can see a stoned guitar player falling into the room while they strike a particularly pleasing chord... not.

This is the current dig. A 3x4 trap door opening into an enlarged crawl space. At the top are exhaust and inlet ports for ventilation. The crawl will contain my reservoirs. Not sure how many gallons but im hoping for 100. Ill have a tough time there unless I dig deep.

The line is a 1 1/2 sump drain to yard.

Next up in plumbing is to cut out the sump which is under 2 layers of ply. Then ill make a plastic sump lid with some ventilation holes to keep the VR at a higher humidity levl when needed. Ill just cover/uncover the sump ventilation holes as needed. There will always be a small amount of water left in the sump. Im not concerned about odor since ill never shit in it.... lol

FR side looking into the studio/lung through the door way I'm building. The door will be about ~27 1/2 inches wide.

Who dat - you have any ideas for a 10" flange to go thru a wall about 6" thick? A short section of steel or aluminum tube 10" wide is what I need for my exhaust port to my lung room.

suggestions?
