that's just scary unc, I'll bet they start delivering bottled water in armored trucks soon.......

thank god not many people actually live here....

hey Unc does the rio sand ever have water flowing thru it. ?
yes, during the summer they release water from the dam for irrigation and water treaties with texas, been a long term drought going on here of course but theres almost never water in this part of the river in winter time,up north at the headwaters and farther south in texas there is...in alaska i can think of creeks that dont even have names that are bigger than this alleged river....

its crazy half the world has no water and the other half is flooded.

as i mentioned before it rains on average 1 out of every 3 days i think and last summer we had a few weeks of really nice weather getting up to a high of 27C on one occasion and we had water shortages lol. i have seen it rain every day for 60 days straight and longer and still we would not last a summer of high temps.

I looked @ some high elevation desert properties in Colorado, you know, the fair/cool weather that elevation is famous for, affordable bare land, maybe.

having a water well drilled in the area was well known for depths of 1600-1700 feet deep, so 1700 X $20 per foot = $34K and that's only if the driller hit an aquifer on his 1st attempt, if not then he has to try again, same price, same risk.

I was maybe better off having those water cooler type 5 gallon water jugs delivered to the tune of $68K, imagine sending home the drilling crew & not being able to afford to build.

It's so much easier to dress for & deal with the cold than a hot climate for me. I've found very affordable RV parks in coastal cities in Cali, water, electric, cable & rent for a total of $700-750 a month, what might not sound appealing to a resident is sort of heavenly for a potential snow bird.

i used to hate the heat until i got skinny....cold i dont mind so much, just a matter of dressing right, but i fucking hate snow.....cannot deal with snow at all....
the desert....you either love it or hate it,theres very little middle ground to be had...heck,i just bought a rain poncho/shelter for my bike kit,not because of rain, but so i have some way to make shade when im out riding....tree line doesnt start until 6500 feet....

Just went a little below freezing last night. The nearest city that keeps weather records had their 3rd coldest March ever, and it is part of a 6 month and counting stretch of below normal months that is supposed to go through April and maybe May as well! Of course, even though this city is only about 20 miles away, it is a little higher elevation and so they have about 2 feet more snow than the 5 feet we had here for the winter. So may not have been as abnormal here. Just got done with a big rainstorm though, like 4 inches that washed a good part of my garden into my driveway! I saw (a week or 2 ago) the bluebirds had returned to the box they nested in last year, but I haven't seen them since. Lots of robins though, along with pesky red-wing blackbirds and grackles. Over 50 here today, but hard to enjoy with everything so muddy and mini rivers running down the road!

we had rain last night, then dropped below 34F & started to snow in earnest, another 4 inches of the white shit & so now I've got to warm up my car hard to defrost all windows.

better than 110F in the shade though....... :)

Yeah we just had 1/2 inch of sleet a couple mornings ago, but some other areas got a decent amount of snow. What's it like in the summer? I can't take high humidity well, or high pollen.

low humidity, only a handful of days over 90F, cool nights for having a campfire, great summer weather, this is tourist country and a big enough lake for the 'destination' status. This is where the masses like to gather for fun.

More snow on the way for Northern MN Thursday-Friday. A lot of it! Mother Nature is a BITCH! The good news is I go back to work on Thursday so my day is ruined anyway.

Back down to the 50's today, which still feels like summer after the winter we had.

But good lord we have had a thunderstorm raging for about 14 hours now. Constant downpour, wind, badass lightning and thunder with no sign of letting up. Worst I have seen in years as far as duration, with more heavy storms predicted for the whole night. My yard looks like a swimming pool.

Here's to hoping my sump pump holds up.

Back into the 60's

I was sleeping pretty good this morning when the tornado hit. I heard it coming well before the sirens went off. Got the family and the dogs in the basement pretty quick. Turned out to be a pretty weak EF1, but still damaged over 100 houses, and knocked down tons of really old and beautiful trees. Fucking bummer really. Literally also picked up sidewalks right from the ground and removed them. Mother nature taking the Earth back I tell ya. No deaths that I have heard about though.

bummer Shaman, I hope your town recovers quickly.......

Thanks man. On the bright side it looks like i'm getting all new guttering on my house for the 3rd time in 5 years. Why clean your gutters when the insurance company can just replace them?

More storms tonight! It's going to be a long spring ...

Hearing the sirens at the moment for the 3rd time tonight. Tornado on the ground. We are bunkered down, and hoping for the best.

Bong hits in progress.

Edit: Passed us on by with no damage *knock on wood* -

I always love how the weatherman seems almost disappointed, for lack of a better word, when nothing is destroyed and nobody dies. Sorry to disappoint!
