One bud finishing faster than the rest

I have 1 plant that is in the 6th week of flower, day 40. It is in soil with 4x23w cfls (3 warm 1 cool) in a 1 gal pot. There two main tops.

One of them seems to be finishing faster than the rest. The hairs are turning orange much faster, but it looks, for lack of a better word, scraggily. The other top looks like the rest of the plant with pretty much all white hairs still. Anyone experience similar things before? I am worried about problems that could effect the whole plant, obviously. Is this just something that happens? Here are pictures. The first is the problematic one, the second the other main top.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't see a whole lot of difference and they do look to be quite a ways from maturity to me. The pistils will turn brown for many reasons. Some may be; touching the buds, pollinated buds, pests, sprays etc. I would keep an eye on it and see if it gets much worse while looking for signs of bugs and male flowers. If you don't see any signs of those then don't stress it.

I usually find lower buds finish a bit before top colas.

Better pics would help, it's tough to tell when the focus is that dull. I think you probably have another 4-5 weeks to go. I have never had a plant at 40 days to have as much browning as I think I'm seeing. Also appears to have alot of leaves and very green, so maybe a bit too much nitrogen. Sounds like you could use more lights, even for just 1 plant. Maybe look into at least 400 watt hps.

Sorry to be critical on your setup, it's all about lighting in the end.

Its perfectly okay. For now I have to be able to get by with this minimal setup, and my camera isn't great. I am still learning. It is my first real attempt at growing some meds for myself. I am a little worried by that one bud. The calyxes look nice still but the hairs are turning much quicker than the rest of the buds and the new white ones seem scraggily compared to the rest of the plant.

That is the whole plant. The question bud is the left cola. It is markedly smaller than the right one. So far I am leaving it alone.

In the worst case scenario, would cutting that bud early endanger the rest of the plant?

Thanks for the reply.

Def need more light on the situation. at 6 weeks you would be way farther along with some hid lights. Some pistils will orange before others.I wouldnt worry.Buy a 250w hps off amazon for $100.Like others said sorry to be critical.

I wouldnt cut the bud off.

Hey, my setup is pretty basic too compared to most people's here. It's hard to know what to buy until you get your feet wet. Your plant really looks pretty good and I wouldn't cut that bud either, just let it do what it will and watch the rest of the plant close for problems. You're doing alot of things right, or you wouldn't have as nice a plant as you do. If you're feeding plant with ferts having high nitrogen, stop and just use water for a couple of cycles. Also, try to get those lights as close as possible to get the most out of what you have now. Those buds will fatten up as finish time gets closer. If you're able to put the plant in sunlight for even if it for 2-3 hours at a time it might help also.

I haven't treated with any ferts since week 2 of veg, and she has just stayed dark green throughout, might be the soil I use. I am waiting for it to get a little warmer but I definitely want to get that lady outside. Its only in the 40's right now but a warm up is on the way.

Too, to assist in knowing when it's time to harvest (phenos of same plant willcause differing maturity times), buy a jeweler's loupe @ hobby store or on line (amazon.com) ...then watch the trichome changes....from clear to milky (optimal), or amber (not the hairs...trichomes), for degradation....some like uber couch lock from degrading buds.
