Yeah it really sucks to feel like youre being watched all the time. Even worse if your occupation isnt on the up and up.

I think it's good for society as a whole to be watchful of what's going on (ala CIA, NSA, the popo). But I also feel that a lot of the money that gets spent preventing terrorism is wasted and it's pointless to even try. How much money have the Feds spent "securing the homeland"? And how many actual cops could be hired with that money to make me truly feel safer? Or to try and lift our once great cities like Detroit or New Orleans out of the third world? That's two towns among thousands that the money could go to.

But I guess there are no "city rebuilding contractors". Just "defense contractors". (going off on a conspiracy rant now) rich people get installed into office to make other rich people money. And the easiest way to make money off public funds is to scare the public and build shit to defend against the boogeyman.

As a veteran, I've seen invoices that would make you want to cry injustice. A tool that costs 1$ now costs the army 2$ and someone, somewhere just made an easy buck off you and me.

Getting back to the point, the country isn't becoming a police state. Corrupted? You bet, but soon it'll get harder for these rich folks to get their people into office even with their campaign funds; spending on defense and security will slowly cool down. Besides, no one is being kidnapped by the gov and shot in the head (USSR).......yet :)

Or maybe I'm wrong and we should all be thinking about how lovely the Australian outback is this time of year!

It's been a police state for a long time, long before the the protests against the Vietnam war, when the national guard marched onto the campus of Kent State University and massacred unarmed student protesters. This was part of Operation Chaos, Lyndon Johnson's creation to squelch dissension regarding the war in Vietnam. It's only now that technology has put us all under surveillance that it's become more obvious. Our government has been involved in many dirty tricks against it's citizens in the ensuing years, not to mention foreign governments including experimenting on people by dosing them with LSD and other mind control techniques in Operation MK-ULTRA. But it began long before that. Truman created the CIA in 1947. The list of coups perpetrated by the CIA is long and bloody.

Our country is corrupt to the core, and has been for a long time.
The military industrial complex and their corporate partners rule, and technology has helped them to micromanage every facet of our lives.
What's even scarier than the police state that it's become, is that the police have become militarized.
Don't drone me bro.....

amazing were people put their focus

police state is sensationalized for sure but how does it manifest in your life?

I know people whose police state is now legal and they are retroactively freeing those who are currently convicted for it

there is much positive change happening, focus on it, put your mind there, engage and be part of it.

we don't have a police state as much as we have a federal military state / private contractors bilking the American public via military spending

if we re appropriated the military budget for 1 year we could solve many problems and still be the strongest military in the world.

we could probably divert it for a term and remain the most powerful in the world

I hear stories about that all the time paladin and that gets my skin crawling

I would have said damn straight where I read this thread but recently I saw statistics on police related killings and the numbers are on the decline

made me question why we see it so often

are these incidents, like moms who kill their kids, have so much focus on them that it makes them seem more common then they are?

i am not saying it is acceptable, but it is also why I say how is it manifest in your own personal life because I am curious how it pans out locally for people opposed to what we see in news headlines

Tragedy sells Weird. You are a marketing specialist and should not have to question this at all even, lol :)

All in all I'm sure it's almost already as bad as it gets, but I am also with you to rather focus on positive devellopings as well.

It's not all only shit that floats down the sewage yanno, :D

Here, be part of the mainstream as well, sit up, scroll down, and make sure to have a lill giggle every once in a while too! > 9gag.com or, more advanced^^ > cavemancircus.com :D

So far my opposition to too much tragedy & for sake of counter balance Weird :)

.... the problem is, while yer at that concert, some of your fellow human beings are going to be out on the parking lot breaking into your car!

..... and some of the others will be breaking into your house while yer gone.

...... some of the smarter folks who aren't at the concert will be ganging up and forming mafia's and cartels.

I won't bother to speculate what some of the unhospitalized, unmedicated mentally ill will be up to nor the anti-government politicos.:bigeye:

All of the civil rights and personal freedoms granted over the last 50 yrs. come at a cost.

..... add into the mix all of the technological advances and the rise of the Internet, communication and access to all kinds of info and you can expect BOTH sides to take advantage.

The cops are just trying to keep up.

Humans are a complex species fer sure!

Haven't read it yet, I will, so somebody may have already said this. The US is not becoming one, it already is.

Can't speak for the entire country but in my state HELL YEAH!! Cameras on every traffic light and street corner. The police seem more concerned with generating money for the state than actually protecting and serving it's citizens. Pursuit of Liberty and Happiness is just an illusion they sell you while they violate your civil rights a each turn!

William Reddie shot and killed in front of his son. CPS and the officers where all cleared and still getting paid.
It was all over the smell of Marijauna at an apartment.
Travesty

A tragedy if there ever was one. I really don't agree with the way SWAT units have popped up in every town covered in military gear and using military weapons and tactics.

That only reinforces the notion of a police state. And when one side doubles down, the criminal side is just gonna get worse. Besides, I'm no scientist but I suspect that when you put more loaded guns in one area, the chances for someone to get shot go up. And these shootings are tragic, and usually end up with injustice towards the victim, and no consequences for the officer who killed someone. This all leads to a deep rift between the police and the citizen body. Which creates more crime and circles around for more guns and looser rules of engagement for officers.

I think we need more "Barney Fifes": good natured, proactive cops who will engage with the community and make their presence known in a positive light. But those guys are hard to train and expensive to recruit and retain. Very hard when most of our tax money goes down the federal crapper.

police state is sensationalized? Not even close. It has been getting worse every year. Been following our "police state" for 10 plus years, and it is worse than anyone could have guessed. Getting worse by the day.

Can you name another Government that literally records every communication of it's citizens?

How much more will it take for the police state to be real to you?

Robots, and drones in the streets patrolling?

That is coming in our lifetime.

The TSA started with the airports, and have expanded to train stations, bus stations, highway check points, and even sporting events.

There is a 100 mile second border within the US where Federal agents have the "authority" to search any person, or vehicle within that zone.

Once our Police departments started to look more like the military I thought people would wake up, but I suppose Dancing With the Stars has them mesmerized.

Full riot gear, armored personal carriers, machine guns, drones, etc.. Who are they policing that they need these types of things?

They work for us, but their job is to find us doing wrong. Ever call the police for help only to get them out there, and they start policing you on other things instead of helping you?

Federal, and State police only want to arrest people. That is their job, they get atta-boys for it, along with promotions. If you think otherwise you are delusional as fuck.

I would trust having sex with an A.I.D.S. infected hooker bareback before I would trust law enforcement personal.
