the real shame here is that many people have made a home here and no longer do and I do not like that this community is fragmented

it is more than the trolls however, and let us be honest, a community worth embracing shouldn't have to be policed to maintain a level of acceptable harmony

I keep my world small and simple for a reason and I am loyal to a fault so I stay in support of the staff and my fellow members for better or worse

I guess at some point you either decide to change by changing were you exists versus changing the world around you through your thoughts and deeds

the prohibition era counterculture peoples are important to me as I am one of them, and it does indeed act as a filter

there is a great opportunity for a personal revolution as a prohibition era counterculture grower to transform into a next level human being, to come to understand the concept of full potential

this at some point should be the focus because marijuana is the perfect vehicle

this is the potential of true medicine, this should be the result sought

the real shame here is that many people have made a home here and no longer do and I do not like that this community is fragmented

Paranoid over-censorship reduced the members here by about 60% in a couple of weeks.
It all started with not letting people talk about the Gypsy Nirvana situation.
That's why this site is so slow these days, everyone has got banned or left in disgust.
And it's all the moderators and site admins fault.

im not the kind of person that throws people out to wash when i dont get my way

part of creating harmony is learning to adjust and compromise

I left many walks of life because of the defects of others and eventually I learned a few things

a) those defects were merely differences

b) judging people on those difference condemns them the paradigm of that difference

c) focusing on something that is still in common changes the dynamics and this the result

d) the result normally ends in a synergy were the gain is worth more than the effort

community means you and me not you or me

I have no clue why some people think they can say whatever they want here. Apparently we have new OWNERS?

i am glad the mods are keeping the site on track...the only reason many people on left is they were in fear for their freedom...after possibly having their site breached by the law...after gypsy's problems...

the mods on here just do what they can to keep peace on here...there has been a new breed of troll that has evolved on here...people who just run their mouths instead of contributing to the education of people and the good of the plant...there just is no room for people bashing on here....we are here to help others learn....for instance the mentioning of swerve...OMG the cockroaches are awaking just saying one name...ok so you don't like the way he operates....just don't support him....i have heard he has done some things that are not so cool...but he hasn't done anything negative to me...has always blessed me with the dankest....like bout ten paks of testers, back when the name swerve wasn't a bad word and every anticipated his releases.... the way i grew up is if you don't have something good to say...please keep it to yourself...if you have a personal beef then it needs to be personal between you and he...no need to clutter up the site over it...just my long winded two cents...again thank you Payaso and the mods for getting out the hammer again...lets make this site another brotherhood again...something you look forward to, instead of a soap opera...we are here to medicate, not raise peoples blood pressure...dj

The problem as I see it with the troll issue is perspective, one man's troll is another man's comedian. That and some people see anyone who disagrees with a point raised by a thread is a troll. A variation of that is the view that certain topics shouldn't be allowed because they typically end up being very heated discussions because there are strong feelings on both sides of the issue.

Some seem to think that certain discussions shouldn't be allowed and that all that should ever be discussed is how to grow and/or enjoy herb. Now naturally the discussion of any thing herb related is a big part of this site but this site as I see it is more then just a "How to grow and enjoy weed" site. It's also a social site for people who share the love of weed because we all tend to view the world from a slightly different perspective then most non lovers of weed. So it's nice to be able to come here and have discussion with people who come from that same perspective because it's difficult to find meaningful conversation among groups of people who don't share a love of da herb.

I'm talking of course about topics like politics, religion, conspiracy theories, etc. We all know what they are. obviously there are plenty of people on these sites that like to talk about those topics otherwise those threads would never get beyond a handful of posts and for the same reason it's obvious people feel very strongly about those topics otherwise they would say what they have to say one time and then let it go rather then have multi page back and forths on it with people that see things differently. When these threads inevitably get shut down though we always hear as the reason that these topics cause people to get angry with one another and it ruins friendships and drives people away. As I see it though it's not the topics themselves that do this but the failure of people to be able to respectfully disagree. Does a person really end a friendship or quit the site because someone brought up politics or religion or do they do those things because someone who disagrees with their view starts calling them a fucking loser or a fucking idiot? I just don't get why we all can't be adults and if we don't like a topic, avoid it or if we don't agree with something said we just say that without all the insults and vulgarity? Do we really need someone else to come along and say, "No, no, no, you can't talk about that because you or someone else might get mad and leave"? I agree that the primary point of the site is to help educate people about all aspects of marijuana and to that end there should be zero tolerance of non grow related discussions in the grow related sub forums. There is more to life then just weed though and I think the site tries to recognize that by having non grow specific sub forums like the "Toker's Den" I don't buy for an instant the argument that people leave this site or end friendships simply because threads here exist on politics or religion. I do know they do leave though when people take it to extremes by disrespecting one another over differing opinions and or they cause the negativity to spill over into the grow specific forums. Of course they leave then because they can't get away from it. If people could learn to act like adults though and realize that not everyone has to agree with them then there should be no reason why we can't have all manner of topics and the people who don't like those topics can just avoid them. One definition of an internet troll is someone who likes to ruin things for everyone else, well if for example a bunch of people like talking about religion but someone doesn't or disagrees with the prevailing opinion and so he gets that thread closed by acting inappropriately in that thread doesn't that ruin things for all the people who wanted to talk about religion and therefore make that person a troll? If the answer is yes then it is the troll and not the topic that is the problem.

Even the insults don't bother me particularly, if someone wants to get down like that I can go toe to toe with them and give as good as I get. The only thing that bothers me is when someone pipes up and calls me an idiot for my opinion but fails to give any counter opinion on the topic in return. To me that's a troll. Like for example in the recent conspiracy theory thread that was closed there was one person in particular that didn't like my opinion but he didn't give any counter opinion, he didn't even have the balls to speak up in the thread. Instead he gave me a reputation message telling me that he thinks I look like such a fool and nothing else. To me that's a troll. Or someone who takes it upon themselves to follow someone around to different threads bashing everything they say because they didn't like something the person said in a different thread, that to me is also a troll.

I have to agree with feather. Gypsy's situation has scared folks away. Members and breeders alike.

Folks are dropping like flies around here. I think it has little to to with "trolls".

The only thing not dropping are seeds.

A friend of mine on here (a member for over 5 years)was banned permanently just for asking why a thread was removed (the thread involving a much smaller site going down). I think this was excessive and unfair. First of all, there should have been a warning first "hey don't talk about that or you will be banned". Instead, he was having a pleasant conversation with a mod before then and it looked like a resolution fair to everyone would be reached. If anything, a "timeout" would have certainly sufficed. I am not saying this is a demorcacy or people should be able to do whatever they want, but there should be a system of checks and balances. No one should be banned because 1 mod has a personal issue with someone. Something as serious as a ban should come down to a vote of 6 mods or all mods or something. One should not be banned for a mere difference of opinion, especially when the person in question is trying to fit in. thanks

Compared with other fora I've seen, folks are pretty civilised here around, especially for such a huge site.
According to hearsay, the mods are said to be rather strict though. But believe me, I was a mod twice (obviously, not here) and that job is really no fun most of the times and troll threads are the worst to deal with because they are borderline and can be quite civilised. It's way easier to ban for example a racist. Banning someone cause of the TOU is, well... according to the TOU. True, it's harsh when it was only about asking a question. If someone thinks that's an overkill; rules are rules and as soon as you loosen them a trifle, someone eats your whole arm (or however that saying went). Just search another forum with lax rules (and then leave that one again because it sucks). That's at least my experience.
Like that thread which eventually pushed Payaso to start this one; the user in question wasn't (mostly, anyway) more rude than others but he just stuck to his opinion without neither giving a reasonable explanation nor participating in a dialogue. That's a troll in my book and sometimes, I know I shouldn't, I can't help and have to poke it with a stick too :D .
Unfortunately, our societies always contain a few individuals raising the necessity for mods, police etc. Reasonable people wouldn't even need laws or guidelines because according behaviour goes without saying; but then comes that special situation where you find yourself being one of those few individuals too...

@Payaso: Sorry, I wasn't aware that there is a report icon. Found it today after a loooong search.
Honestly, even if it's irrational and stupid (more so as a former mod), I prefer a mod/admin finding and deleting posts of his own than denunciating someone myself. Also has to do with the fact that I'm a newbie and haven't done much for the canna-community yet.
