First grow, not doing well.

Starter feed is just basic plant food, like the A&B but balanced differently to give more micros; it's really not that big a deal. Just mix equal amounts of canna A&B til you get to 1.0 ec and feed that.

Thanks, gave my first dose yesterday at 1EC, Will give another tomorrow and see how it goes.

They were too starved after I'd been away for a few days. They seemed to begin recovering but I got my hands on a few more seeds (bag seeds from same batch).

Using Canna A&B in Canna Coco and a little BioBizz Root Juice now to start with. Going to add a couple of ml/L of Hesi Powerzyme to the mix as well. Feed at pH 5.8, EC 1.0 and increase to 1.8 (I think) over several weeks. Wet/dry cycles, feeding when container feels light (I've got a feel for that now I think).

I am going to throw in my $0.02 here. I am also new to growing. Glad you are joining in! I want to say this much. You are a beginner and that is something that you have to take into consideration. Although my grows haven't been without problems I have never had nutrient problems (at least that were disastrous.) That's because I don't use nutes. I started with soil because everything I read suggested soil to me, as a beginner. While you are learning, why not just get some good organic soil and let nature do the tricky work in the beginning while you get a feel for it, then later on when you have had a couple plants succeed decide its time to take on more? I also use cfl, less watts than you and I have a lady who's half done flowering. It saddens me to see someone with the passion fail because they leapt too far too fast. You may get smaller plants or smaller yields without the nutes but you will get plants and more importantly buds. Maybe that was more like a nickel but I hope it helped.

Nah, should have it all covered now. Actually I grew one in soil some 20 years ago. Just gave it water and it turned out fine. Gotta have a challenge :)

Lol! Well I can definitely respect that. As long as you end up with smoke to smoke I'm happy for you =)

Something had to go awry.

My new seedlings on day 5. Looking good. Got fed (Canna A+B and BioBizz Root Juice 5 ml/L) EC 1.0 pH 5.7 on day 4 and shot up on day 5.

Day 6 and this appears:

This (the tallest plant) has it on both leaves, my middle plant on one leaf and the lowest one is still fine. Thinking they could have gotten too hot from the lights. Got 6 23W CFLs @ 6400K. They were 4 inches from the lights. I know people say to put them closer but it gets too warm there IMO. The other possibilty is nute burn. But I didn't think I should see that at EC 1.0.

As of yet I have only moved them an inch or two further away from the lights.

I don't grow in coco, but I don't feed my plants anything at this stage. I thought seeds had enough nutrients on their own for the first couple of weeks?.?.

Rule of thumb is never run straight water through coco unless you are trying to kill it- like the final week or so of bloom. Weak nutes for seeds or clones starting out in coco is the normal.

I read the through the thread and Papa is right on with his information.
I would follow his advice

But from my experience those seed starting soils have always been easier for me to start seeds and have gave me better consistency as far as results. The little bit of fertilizer they put in there takes out the guess work. But coco works well too.

Them new seeds I planted are doing well :) This is day 26. Put them under a 250W CFL @ 6400 K. The "problem" now is that the third seed to sprout is the one plant that is 4 times the size of the other two - now if it's a female I'll be a happy camper. The two smaller ones got a little burned after I did one feeding at 1.4 EC. Keeping them at 1.1 EC now (Canna A&B + BioBizz Root Juice and some enzymes). Repotting them was scary. I was afraid the whole thing would come apart but the roots kept it together. Very nice root development on the biggest, less on the two others (no surprise).

Maybe it's way too early but it looks like an indica strain to me (all three) - remember it was bag seeds - any guesses to what strain?

The idea of seeing a seed in a bag of pot is kind of funny to me. I haven't seen a seed in pot in 30 years. There hasn't been mexican pot for sale in this state since the 80s and none of the indoor growers who supply the market now ever have a seed in their product

Huh, I find a rando seed in dispensary weed from time to time. It's actually how I came across my Big Bud and Mr. Nice strains. Not a bunch of seeds, but 1 in an ounce isn't unheard of. Especially in the fall after the outdoor season.

But yeah, cannot really guess the strain off of a handful of early fan leafs. I agree it looks indica dominant, but beyond that it's too hard to say. Based solely on statistics there's a good chance she has at least some Northern Lights in her. But there's no way to really be sure.

Flush the media for the little plant on the right. She's burning up.
