FUCK the borg have arrived (Spider Mites)

Good. It sounds like you are putting the Borg down. Don't forget to spray every 3 days for a while as the Neem won't kill the eggs. After you don't see Borg for a while you can ease up. I used to spray Neem 1 time a week with a weak solution as a preventative. Some people think Neem shouldn't be used after the plants are serious about flowering.

No more sign of the borg in this quadrant...I may have won the battle but we're still at war.

Sprayed lightly today and will continue to do so 2-3 times a week for the next two weeks or so just to be sure my mothers stay borg free!

try this: one table spoon dishsoap ( i prefer dr. bronners soap, pepermint), 2 table spoons neem oil (cold pressed is best, i use dyna gro), and one ounce of isopropyl alcohol in one gallon of warm water (to mix the neem in well)
shake it up and spray

when they're gone, spray for 2 more weeks!!!
:yeahthats
good advice

also, rotate your sprays, mighty wash, neem mix, essential oils (like ed rosenthals zero tolerance is a mix of oils, or sm90 is corriander, or liquid ladybug is pepermint oil mostly).

also
i have killed the hell out of mites with floramite mixed with tetrasan, please protect yourself when using these kind of harmful chemicals and never ever spray these in flowering cycles.

Neem applied every few days for a few weeks knocked them COMPLETELY out of my system. Been bug free for over a year now. No more PM either.

Tried Avid and a few other much more toxic solutions with some succes.

Sure feels good knowing my bud has ZERO pestiside residue, No mold, mildew, bug eggs or bug carcasses. In my case the mild more natural remedy worked best. No matter what you choose, I think the most important thing is timing, I don't think there's a one application solution that will keep them away.

don't use the Southern AG Neem-Oil Triple Action..it is hydrophobic which means most of the active ingredients have been removed...use only PURE neem oil...

check my 'oils ain't oils' thread for more details...

good luck

Check the Spider Mite Sticky in the Cannabis Infirmary section. Here's what has worked for me without toxic chemicals.

Spider Mite Control

Pyrethrum is fairly safe, but if it also has PBO, piperonyl butoxide, it's a different ball game.

I would use Azasol rather than Azamax or Azatrol. Azasol is oil free, causes no phytotoxicity, is more systemic, no smell after drying [to humans], no oil mess, similar price, dissolves instantly. In sum, more effective.

Best way is to mix in a bucket, cover top of root ball with a rag or cardboard and immerse everything above ground. That way you get 100% coverage, and dunking them washes off many mites and eggs. Also, spray walls, doors, floor, entire container including the bottom. Non messy since it's oil free.

The big key that has given me a once and for all kill [till I carry more in], is to do a second dunk 36 hours later, followed by another in 48, each time spraying walls, doors, floor, entire container. This kills any hatchlings before they have a chance to lay more eggs. Plus you're done in 4 days. I usually follow this procedure using Spinosad w/wetting agent the first 2 treatments, then Azasol for the 3rd. If you have the energy, add a 3rd Spinosad dunk before the last one with Azasol. Done in 5 ½ days.

What has worked well for me has been to spray the plants with Azasol during the first week of 12/12 as a preventive. No mites thru harvest. Haven't had mites in the 3 years since I started this one preventive treatment.

I've also gotten rid of mites using only Spinosad w/wetting agent for 4 treatments. Dunk, again in 36, 36, 48. Good luck. -granger

Nobody has mentioned NUKEM from Flying Skull products. I know the name sounds horrid, and the company name sounds worse, but the product is potassium sorbate - a common preservative found in foods. I got a sample from an organic store nearby and found it effective used as directed (reg. strength, then stronger). Last time I tried to get some I had to go to flying skull online as neither store I use decided to carry it.

I liked what Avinash.Miles said too and use the neem/silicone/dr. bronner mix in the nursery and veg room with complete success but don't like the idea of using oil on flowers.

Saw the video on liquid ladybug and that looked good too but A.M says it's peppermint oil which should affect flavor. but the video says it "completely evaporates" after killing the mites and is tasteless & odorless. Is the video a crock A.M?

I thought dr. doom was a complete waste of far too much money and used it in a space 1/2 the size recommended and saw mites moving happily the next day.

A.M you use neem in flower?

Seaweed is my saviour

Seaweed is my saviour

After having spidey mites bothering my plants for quite a while and neem not really making much progress I recently started spraying watered down fermented seaweed water on them every day from popping. The leaves are thick and green and seem to have a wax like coating on them. A couple of weeks into flowering and still no sign of the spidey gits.

I think I've found my prevention/cure:).

Just growing mr nice - shit (oldskool skunk) crossed with pakistan valley which were obtained through colloidal silver reversing. Grow medium is a terra preta style medium that I have been building up for a couple of years or more now. 12/12 from seed is my thing now and although I don't have it perfected, it works out well enough for me.

Seaweed seems to work brilliant for me. I guess I'll see if the mites stay away all through flowering (I'll be gutted if they don't). The seaweed seems to do wonderful things.

This is my first post on the forum in quite some time and I was surprised that my account was still active:biggrin:. I'm grateful that it is.

Peace and love friends:)

Spider Crab

Can the No pest strips be used outside?

I can't find No pest strips, just Zero pest strips, 65grams of dichlorvos.

Thanks for any help. :)

How are you fermenting the Seaweed? I'm pretty sure that spraying plain water daily would keep the mites away, but Seaweed is known to have some agent that is effective on mites, and maybe the fermentation enhances it. Have you used it when you had mites? Thanks. -granger

Spider Crab,
Though its off topic, and there are, if you look, other Spider Mite threads and stickies, and there are No Pest Strip threads and stickies, I'll give my opinion. NPS would dispense Dichlovos outdoors, but I doubt there would be much effect on pests because it would, even with minimal wind, exit your area. -granger

Make sure you rotate your treatments, they build immunity to most things quickly. I used azamax, spinosad, neem drenches, strong homemade hababnero water, and the occasional no pest strip. Change it up every 3 days, don't hit them with the same thing twice and you will eventually kill them. Their life cycle is actually 6-8 days but depends on temps and humidity, lower temps will slow them down.

Careful using the no pest strips (NPS) in any area where people or pets live. It is an odorless gas that is a carcinogen. Definitely do some sue diligence before using...

Good Luck!
