Sup IC...

I'm a relatively new grower, this is my third real attempt and I've been doing really well. I've got a SCROG going in one area (12/12) and some bonsai moms in another (24/0).

Went in today to take my third batch of cuttings and one of my Satori moms has been infected by spider mites. Fuck!

I need to know what action to take immeadiately because somehow I caught this fuckers before they got out of control. There are no webs yet they seem to only be on one part of the plant.

Thanks for the help and info I will be watching this diligently, cheers

If you caught them in time you can always remove carefully a leaf or two and dispose of it carefully so you don't track them around. You can make a spray of Neem or Azamax and mist down the plants. Neem doesn't kill the eggs so you need to spray every 3-4 days till after you don't see any more. The Borg life cycle is 3-4 days and I swear they are born pregnant. CC (longtime member) taught me to make a lavender tea that I spray every week as a preventative. There are several commercial products that your hydro store can sell you. I have even heard people spraying water, alcohol and water, and soap and water. Good luck I hate the Borg.

Spinosad is a bacteria that is harmless to anything that doesn't have an exoskeleton. It has been recommended here by respected members as an anti-thrip foliar and root drench.

Is Spinosad also useful as an anti-mite?

32 oz bottle of Captain Jack's Deadbug for $10.00 . Used at 4 oz/gal water.

I've never seen Spinosad recommended for mites. Maybe one of the old hands can tell us if it will work.

Works well for thrips. bg

I've sprayed it down twice today with a concoction of cinnamon, onion, garlic, and pepper. I made it half strength just in case. After the first spray I could still see some but they seemed to have moved to the top of the leaves (sprayed mostly the bottoms first). So I sprayed the tops and bottoms this time and I'll see where I am tomorrow morning. Also going to put a plastic bag over the plant if I can even though I've had it seperated by a few feet.

If all this doesn't work I will be looking to pursue other options...

I've never dealt with spidermites (knocks on wood) but a close friend did on his first grow.

I had him liberaly spray the whole plant (top and undersides of leaves) with neem oil.

When using neem it is important to spray the top and undersides of all leaves liberally!

Do not rinse off for seven days.On the seventh or eighth day spray heavily with water, then reapply neem again.Hopefully after two neem treatments you won't need to reapply.

Also, try moving your tent or grow cab (if using one) to another room after washing it down real good, and fumigate the original room it was in.

1/2 Ounce:

2oz:

Spray and the next day you will see them bungee jumping and dangling from webs trying to get away. Id get the bundle with eagle20 if you have the cash. Never have to worry about powder mildew either which will probably be your next issue ;)

I've decided against ordering online because everything I'm reading says hit them fast and hard. Considering that here are my local options, looking for some tips on what to buy tomorrow morning

They have Azamax but it's $30 for a tiny amount, maybe use this as a last option because you can def find it cheaper online?

Southern AG Neem-Oil Triple Action 8 oz - $10.99

Safer 3-in-1 Garden Spray (says it kills all mites, sulfur based insecticidal soap) - $8.99

100 Predator mites for $12

Organocide Ready to Use - Kills 25 common pests including mites - blend of seasame and fish oils - $14

Doktor Doom Fogger - $10

Doktor Doom Spidermite KO - $15 (both pyrethrin)

What would IC recommend from these options? There is also SNS217 Mite Control for a whopping $70 but thats basically off the table already due to current budget, although it could be a future purchase if necessary

man go to walmart and get one NO Pest strip for every square meter....i have done all of the above and it jus doesn't compare to what these $10 strips can do...and you can get em locally...Captain Krip gave me this advice...its the best secret i have ever learned on here and i have been on here since 09...i swear you will be so amazed in two days...i looks like they pack up the eggs and take em with them too...they will be gone really fast...like a couple of days, but leave em in an extra day....and then you take the strips and put them in gallon zip lock bags and use them over and over...go to a 24 hour walmart now...screw all that spraying and respraying...DJ

Spray them with mighty wash then 3 days later with neem then repeat. You need to clean your space and don't forget to order the serious stuff.

Ok fellas thanks for all the suggestions and advice.

My homemade brew seems to be doing pretty well. It seems like I killed a good portion of the mites already because when I was checking the leaves this morning there were a lot of dead shells flaking off. I also tried to drop the temps a little bit at night to slow reproduction.

Today I'm going to clean my growing area thoroughly and then I'm headed to pick up some mighty wash and neem oil from the local shop. I'll report back tonight and let you know of any progress

What DJ said will and does work. While your at walmart, pick up a bottle of insect control in the lawn and garden part. You wan the shit that has has pyritherins(spelling?) in it. Get the highest concentration mix they have. It will work on a small population as I have used it with great success. You need to spray every other day or everyday if your plants can take it. I know the life cycle of a mite is 3-4 days. The way I look at it is we have mini populations among our total population, so do the mites. For example I believe mites can be born everyday and not every three, just like people. So I spray as often as I can besides what's recommended and it works.
It's not fool proof by any means, just how I do things. Hope you can get them under control. they are the 2nd worse pest you can get. Root aphids being the worse. I hate those fucks!!!

You can buy Safer's Soap concentrate and mix up your own tub-ful's, e.g. 10 gallons of diluted Safer's. Then turn the plant upside down and dip it, until the main stem is almost completely submerged and the media (soil, rockwool) is about to get submerged.

I think a few times, I made a round cardboard cover to put over the soil so it doesn't all fall out into the soapy water mix.

"Agitate" the plant (up & down, etc.) a few times. For the spider mites, these are End Times. It's like a flood of molecular acid (potassium fatty acids dissolve spider mites. Sort of like that one scene in Robocop when the bad guy falls out of the back of the truck.)

For the plant, it's usually not a big deal. It's important to let the leaves dry before putting the plant back under the lights. They breathe through the leaves.

If the leaves are covered with Safer's, and they're under the lights - well, if you have an extra clone, you could try it. They don't like it.

Cost - last time I looked, the Safer's concentrate was about $10. Enough to make 20 to 40 gallons, like buying 20 or more of those dark green Quart bottles of Safer's.

Options 2A & 2B - Ladybugs and/or Praying Mantis'.

Ladybugs are better, for this. Garden supply stores have them. They go where the food is - for them, indoors, that's spider mites. It's End Times #2 for the Spider Mites. Instead of a flood of acid, it's big monsters that eat them alive. :woohoo:

Praying Mantis - you can buy egg cases, but there's a delay time while they hatch.

Personally, I don't like using Safer's past Week 2 of flowering. I don't want soap on the buds.

Ok so day 3 of discovering the mites...

I've sprayed with Neem oil for 48 hrs and there has not been any spreading as far as I can tell.

One question though, is it typical that the eggs and dead mite bodies will just stay stuck to the leaf?

There are still a lot of them on the infected areas but they are not moving and haven't been coming back as far as I can tell so far after wiping them off with my hands
