Contemplating a move

moving from a non-medical state to Colorado. how difficult will/would it be to be involved in the biz?

I have been reading some laws that it indicates it takes 3 months to establish residency. Since Colorado is recreational do the same rules apply for employment?

thanks for the help!

Basically, there's room for everyone in this industry, but if you don't meet a certain skill level you'll just be seen as another green rusher and be absolutely eaten alive.. it's something that should be extremely serious, do you think you have what it takes to last in the long run? Think about what your intentions and priorities are. I'm helping a large caregiver but select males in my spare time and wish to do that as my career later on.

In the end all of the green rushers will be gone and only the best will be in the spotlight of the 'mainstream' aspect of the industry, I'll be content out in the woods away from the commercialized madness selecting for my own grail to satisfy my own head, and if other heads besides my own are satisfied during my endeavor then I'm much more than content..

All I have to say is what a lot of ambitious and eager people fantasize about High Times Cannabis Cups and the like, are actually more like patient ran farmers markets; while the cups are more like product expos and not much medicating ;)

If you're in it for the honest unconditional love, CO needs more love!

Is an already established grower that makes the move considered a greenrusher along with someone wanting experience? Is the action of moving out there for a means of employment also considered a greenrusher? Moving to Colorado, setting up shop and thinking I have what it takes to make it would be the worst idea.

Choom you mention later on in your career, I have no involvement yet. I am the type too innovate. I immerse myself in my interests and whether it can hold my attention for a long period of time, I need to try and find out. I don’t know what would happen later in my career.

Can an out-of-state person be employed? Does it take 3 months to establish residency? Once established do you need a card and if so how long is the process?

The idea of growing is my interest for now because that’s all I can associate this business with. Growing staple veggies was a plan but wasn’t cost effective. What I am saying is that this business is developing, it’s infant. Produce doesn’t have the sex appeal, as does Mary, regardless of what they resemble. Just the idea of creating indoor environments is awesome.

Colorado is a beautiful place how could you not love it in return? Second trip in 6 months just around the bend.

I sure as hell wouldnt move here just to grow. Unless you have a degree in botony or a really solid history in farming and agriculture. The market is changing really fast if you cant keep ahead of the trends your doomed.

What I mean by this is that everyone has a choice now. They have the ability to pick choose and manipulate their own environment as customer. Everyone wants the best deal or the best weed, cheap or great. If you can beat the other guys price by 10 bucks and deliver a better product you have a customer for as long as he can afford it or finds better.

Its a cut throat buissness out there. And everyone is in it for the profit thats were most make their mistake. If your in it for buds you will be a success.

That being said. Come join us there is still plenty of room just get a real job first.

You'll establish yourself as a resident the day you move, or rather you can. When I moved, I got a new license and registered to vote on day one - which made me a resident right then. There is no waiting period for work. But I believe there are requirements for caregivers/rec shops...not sure what they are. But if you're motivated and halfway know your shit, I think you could find a job in the business somewhere. I say this because I come across plenty of clueless budtenders. How some of them got their jobs, I'll never know. And there are new shops opening almost daily right now.

Good luck!

Cannabis must be some magical substance. Some white boys smoke it and get dreams of being migrant farm workers.

I'd recommend finding a job there before moving. You can get your grow op started on a smaller scale while you have the steady income from the full time job. I wouldn't try to start growing there without some form of income unless you have at least enough money to cover a year's worth of expenses.

You just answered your own questions. Like the "Gold Rush" from yore....some made out big, many did not. There's a lot of bureaucratic hoop jumping....

I wish you perseverance (not just luck) in your capital venture.

I'm not from Colorado, and don't know anything about the scene around there. I do live a couple of states away, and know for a fact that our local market is flooded with herb that was grown in Colorado, and apparently couldn't be sold there. I don't know why else they would export it other than supply over meeting demand because they aren't getting any more money here than they would there. Just kind of suggests to me that Colorado has more growers than it knows what to do with.

It is possible. I have friends that just did this. Been in town for only a couple of weeks, and got a job as an assistant grower for $11 per hour.

If you know what you are doing you can get 100k or more a year, but those jobs are harder to come by. :)

Not sure the 11$ an hour job would require much more than a lawn mowing job. If working for me, you wouldn't be paid more than 15$ unless you brought A LOT to the table.
