4k Side Lighting Experiment

So then recently we have been dropping bulbs in between plants for extra light and seen great results from doing this.
So on the last one I got a light meter on the job to see how much of a difference it was actually making and the results were interesting. Because none of the light from the bulbs was reflected light they were in a sense the most efficient lights in the room so I got to thinking......... We didn't want to just drop loads of bulbs in with no reflectors cause this would mean using loads of reflective sheeting to catch what was going out towards the walls so this is what we came up with

Originally the plan was to just have 6, 3 either side but then we realised that it would leave a dark spot on the end so instead of going up to 8 and having to re spec ventilation etc we just added 1 so 4 one side and 3 the other. Another test we have incorporated into this room is the side with 3 are white parabolics and the side with 4 are silver parabolics so we will see which are the better shade if any.......?!?! Plants and system to follow.........

This looks like it will be fun!

You know we're all desperate for details here so how about some? You know;- light wattage, room dimension, extraction, all that stuff:biggrin:

Hi guys cheers for the interest nearly there with the room now just a few tweaks left to do
Room is about 4.5m x 3.5m we constructed the two frames and running one row of plants down the middle the plan is to have......
4 x 80 litre pots they have a mix of growstones and claypebbles in the bottom 10cm and then a 2 to 1 mix of coco perlite in the rest of the pot. The reason for the stones in the bottom is because I have a porous airline running around the inside and the outside of the pot in the tray connected to an air pump it's going to be like a a huge autopot with loads of air so bring some of benefits of DWC.
The lights are 7 x 600w digi's with parabolic shades half white half silver like I was saying before.....
Ventilation is a 10" L1 with a mountain air 1000 and as you can see in the pics has a UVONAIR strapped to it,
Intake will be like a 5" I normally just use a passive intake as I find it helps the outtake maintain negative pressure but I'm going for mega airflow so I thought I would throw the 5" In for good measure.
Then I also have like 3 powerful air ciculators that are gonna blast down the lines to keep the room nice an cool low 20's haven't fired all lights up yet but have 3 on and the fan is too much for the room having to put the fan speed controller to knock it on and off.
Been thinking about Co2 but just not sure about the ability to get the bottles in and out so will have to see on that one.

In the pot.......

I'm going for like a vertical scrog I have had some trellises made that stand at about 5ft the plan is to put 3-4 plants in each pot I was going to do 1 but it's a speed thing more is just gonna be so much faster, hoping that the plants will compete and that it will bring an different element to the grow in my head I just thought 80 pot 3-4 plants each plant has at least 20L which is plenty to achieve big yields.
Strains I have 1 pot that has some fresian dew in this is because I am getting some mothers ready for outdoor have to tip the cap to Buddy for the strain advise on that. I had 9 an don't need so many so I took 4 with the shorter node spacing and I'm gonna run them in one pot.
The other pots are White Russian gonna do 2 with 3 and one with 4 in.

Thanks for documenting this for us Northern, can't wait to see it play out.

Good luck. Here's wishing you the yields this effort deserves.

Hi just a quick post with some plant pics for ya........ The taller ones in the pot there are 4 fresian dew just nipped em out to start to training them into the cages I had made. The other big pot is with 3 White Russian the 7 smaller plants are White Russian just waiting for them to be drying out a bit quicker and put on a bit more height then I will get them potted up and get the system up and running. Bit more wiring to do yet so I can get some more lights on.
