Hey guys. I've done about 3 grows, all with a 250w hps, all over 3 years ago. I got a 400w toward the end of that but never got a chance to use it.

I want to do a fairly moderate little grow in my closet. I have roughly 2' x 3 or 4' to work with, and another small space that could be used for a mom if necessary.

My last grow was a SOG and I really liked the single cola plants. I think there were about 20.

My question is. With this space, and the light I have, would you do a SOG or just a few plants?

Would you upgrade to a 600w?

I want the most bang for my buck, and my time and effort.
Also it's not legal here, so 25-30 ish plants vs 2-3 is kind of a big deal.

Also how would you go about cooling a box inside of a closet? Is that a bad idea?

Thanks for any suggestions.

A 2x3 space is perfect for a 400w HPS but too small for a 600w HID.

for cooling and ventilation checkout the ventilation 101 thread, link is in my sig below.

I never have heat issues with my 400s.. I have several sog boxes.... Nearly identical to ticks sog box....in DIY thread. No fancy can fans just 10" turbo fans on lights and bathroom fans for air change...works rather well but my basement never gets above 65

It's all dependent on temp of the intake air and exhuast fan airflow after all pressure losses.

My 3x3x6 tent with 400w HPS and 4" 170 cfm exhaust fan keeps lights on temps in the tent 10°F above ambient,so to keep lights on temp ideal between 75°F and 78°F I have to keep the ambient/intake temp between 65°F and 68°F

Thanks guys. But my main question is whether my space would be best used for SOG or a few plants? I'm thinking SOG. Bigger risk, bigger reward.

I just checked out that dog box. Is 4 feet a good height or should I go smaller? The clones in the pictures look really stretched out.. I'm going to be putting them straight into flowering and don't think mine will be that tall. How tall should my box be?

Thanks.

In a 2x3 space or 6 square foit space utilizing 6" square pots you can grow up to 28 plants SOG style.I don't know what state you're in but here in Fl 25 or more plants will catch you a traffiking charge if busted.

If you go that route with a 400w HPS I would start flowering when the plants are no bigger than about 6" tall so they finish off no bigger that 18" to 24" as a 400w HID doesn't penetrate the canopy with much useable light past 24" of canopy height.

So would a 3' tall box be okay? Especially with the light set up like tick's, without a bulky hood/reflector, I think 3' would be enough but I just want to be sure.

Just go with something between 4' and 6' tall...always better to have headroom you don't need rather than need headroom you need but don't have.

You can look up your states laws on the NORML website.
