I have heard stories of Chiba weed in the early 70's and it was described to me as black sticky buds that very EXTREMELY potent, I was wondering where it was from, are seeds available, does anybody have some or grew some?

Colombia :)

"That evening Blackie´s sidekick and dope curator, Fernando, rolled one of his special joints -an entire issue of Time Magazine rolled around almost half an ounce of Colombian Chiba-Chiba; it took three matches and a Zippo to torch it - and Swan spent the night in Never Never Land with all his new friends. He left for Barranquilla the next day"

There's a song called "Smokin' Cheeba Cheeba" by the Harlem Underground (1976). Also covered by High Fidelity (1995).
Possibly just slang word for weed? Maybe a strain?

I grew some "choco chiba" last year, originally from the Brazilian Seed Co, meant to be a Colombian via paraguay (irc).

Very nice, not quite as trippy (and overall potent) as the Golden Tiger from Ace.

from what i've learned doing chiba research:

cheeba is slang for good herb. it has been used to reference the strain chiba as well.

some say there are two chibas considered to be relatives; paraguay, colombian. zamalito says they are the same strain grown in diifferent countries:

In Brazil we obtained a cutting and some seeds of a variety referred to as a chocolate sativa from an woman whose husband was a well reputed member of the paraguaian mafia. They told us this variety was actually a colombian Chiba that they'd been growing in paraguai for quite some time.

here's a picture of the choco chiba:

Columbian Chocolate Sativa

Talk about a potentially medicinal strain! Comes on slow and steady for about 10 min. and starts almost instantly after the first couple hits. I had a decent toothache when I smoked this doobie and it definitely helped it a lot!

Not to mention it’s flavors are extreme and unique, white cherry chocolate maybe. So unique that it is difficult to compare to anything else, but very pleasing

Legs are Fantastic, and the high and effects last a long 5 or 6 hours, ending in a sleepy relaxing buzz at the end; however, not really too sleepy before that time. You *could* sleep easily on it though if you were to lay down and relax. Heh heh

It hits you very powerfully and quite intense with a full pull body zinging brain skewing deeply “underwater” stone from hell! LoL

Very cool strain for application medicinally IMO

outdoors i can create a lot of seeds. indoors i can only create a few due to space restrictions and many many projects. outdoors i can take pollen off a good non hermie male and apply to a good non hermie female in an isolated place just for seed runs and not worry about stray pollen.

keep in touch and i'll try to get some up to the server fund this fall.

chiba chiba is a Columbian strain that's is so dark brown it looks black not to be confused with the Columbian purple that was so purple it looked black also.it saturated the papers when you tried to smoke it rolled and kept going out like trying to smoke a hash joint is the best description I can think off best in a bong or pipe .even lightly pressed it was rock hard nuggets that would stick to the wall for a week if you it pressed on to a wall screwing around.much stronger than the gold or the gold brown it was the buyer choice down there I don't think many loads left Columbia at the time because it was so popular there aloha cls

Classic Seeds ^^ cool. brazilian seed company owner luiz fritzman got a call from:
Fortunately the old native guarani woman who gave us the cutting and the seeds really appreciated the strain and refused to hyrbidize it when growing it for her own personal stash.

zamalito tagged along wid fritz but only l. fritzman was allowed into the paraguay drug lord type compound. they left with cutting and seeds.

I couldn't meet her in person. In order for luiz to be permitted into the compound an armed escort assigned by the mafia was required. These were obviously very sketchy people.

zamalito is still alive and not posting atm. i've been in contact with an ic mag member that has the choco chiba, published one of the few early internet smoke reports on choco chiba and is in contact with zambamalito.

maybe due to inline breeding the original colombo choco chiba evolved into the paraguay version? idk.

length of maturity and curing can definitely affect appearance and high effects. here's a picture of my choco chiba grown in what i now realize was very crappy soil:

shit poorly amended (by me) soil can also have a huge influence on bud product.

there was a guy in Columbia for a while I hear he is on the ecudorean border now he married a indian lady there he was from one of the Russian sattelites.they left Columbia because the farz and bandits were robbing them blind he sent a lot a seeds out a few years ago chocochiba was one along with Columbian purple and black he sent a bunch to coastal seeds and thru them to me .he got involved with some canadaian compamy and a Spanish company and got burned for his efforts of trying to pardner up with them and grow and supply seeds to them .kind of sad because he only was charging a dollar a seed for these old gem landraces .poor guy thought everyone was honest like we had been and never got paid by these companys aloha cls ps coastal seeds is planning on vending here and kaygu and bamboo will be doing lots of interesting landraces from our combined efforts and sharing with Bodhi and snow we all try to help each other save landrace and keep the old genetics going for future generations

it really depends on who you are as to what you give back if I just took and my friends just took we would not have friends all over the world who we still talk to and share anything with that comes from their generousity towards us .that's why there are only a few people I share my landrace with because they get it and are not out to walk over peoples backs or steal projects from each another .we all talk about what we are doing so we don't beat each other up .we had to learn the hard way to protect our selfs and our native friends from the greedy pirates that prevaid this seed business and to protect all our IBL's along with the landraces aloha cls

The "Choco Chiba" is a wonderful line. It finished Nov 14th. Grown in the ground with a custom soil mix. Did not require much fertilizer. The CC was acquired from someone other that my friend in Ecuador. I am looking forward to work with it again this season. Peace

I used to pay $350.00 for a elbow for that stuff back in 75 in Western NY. My connection used to bring it up in bales from South Florida and we controlled the sales for the Western NY area. It was the first time that I was able to sell ounces for $150.00, unheard of at that time!!!! I can still remember breaking into a bale and the odor that soon permeated the room. The scent of spices and fruit's like bananas and mangoes mixed in with the scent of rich fertile earth made it a unique experience to say the least.

So much for the good old days and the beautiful Sativas that were our lively hood. I know in my heart that they still exist in Colombia because I have seen them not so long ago down there. All it would take now is a few old crazy pot smugglers willing to make a big run into the record books :whee::whee::whee::whee:
