Just read The Ruins by Scott Smith and it was AMAZING! I couldn't put it down for 3 straight days. It's horrifying and disgusting, but so hard to turn away!

I was rummaging around in an old storage box and found a copy of E.E. (Doc) Smith's Gray Lensman, part of the Lensman sci-fi series. Used to have the whole series plus the Skylark series and some Family D'Alembert.

Classic mid-20th-century space opera. Love it, looking for more.

Full Service: My Adventures in Hollywood and the Secret Sex Lives of the Stars
by Scotty Bowers (audiobook version)

if you're looking for dirt, look no further.
this guy (now 89) has known pretty much everyone in hollywood and had sex with most of them (george cukor, cole porter, spencer tracy, rita hayworth, and many more). some explicit elaborations might make your stomach churn, but i enjoyed this book thoroughly.

I have been tearing up the classic novels in my library lately. "Wuthering Heights", "crime & punishment", "don quixote", "catch-22" & "love in the time of cholera"

Been reading "Anna karenina". My first Tolstoy and it is excellent.

I have stumbled across a list of the 100 best books of all time on Wikipedia, and have made it my mission to go through all of them.

let me just say that don Quixote is a different work all together. Many say it's the best book of all time; I disagree. However it is very good and pretty dang funny, which shocks me that something that old could still translate today. I guess naked backflips are timeless lol

Myers - History of the Great American Fortunes Vol. II - Great Fortunes from Railroads (1909)

man this trilogy should really be mandatory reading in every school.
this volume deals mainly with the vanderbilt and gould fortunes and the many criminal ways they were amassed. it's quite infuriating but necessary education.

Finally finished On the Road, just started Prometheus Rising. Definitely pretty interesting, seen a person or two in here mention it.

read this some years ago, back when I did a lot of spiritual reading, I worked at the world's largest independent bookstore, so I got to read a LOT of books. Tis a story of an American who goes in search of a master. He gets more than he bargained for. He meets a real Master, and gets schooled

16288.jpg

it inspired a movie, can't remember the name, it involves Fire IIRC. the film not the book

the book, is 100% a good read, true grit for spiritual enlightenment

for starters the guy tracks down the hut of said master, and for days sits outside the hut waiting, his pre determination is all that got him where he was, he wasn't giving up

it's an amazing read, real life magic and shit

Jesus on Death Row- the Trial of Jesus & American Capital Punishment"

Jesus on Death Row- the Trial of Jesus & American Capital Punishment"

this one is by Mark Osler, an evangelical Christian & former federal prosecutor in Detroit who prosecuted THOUSANDS of crack cases & has since done a 180 degree turn on the drug war & mandatory sentencing. he quit a job teaching law at Baylor in Texas so he could help change the laws. he has argued before the Supreme Court, & had his writings quoted by litigants arguing there.

Excellent Book~~A MUST READ

Excellent Book~~A MUST READ

Hey all I just finished reading a book by William P. Young called "The Shack". It was so good that I read it a second time right away. I also got the audio book so I can listen to it without having to pickup the book. The message is just so golden that it sooths the deepest part of your sole and leaves you feeling completely renewed and satisfied. If anyone would like I would be more then willing to send them a .zip file of the audio book for free.

I won't get into my feelings about the author's religion and his use of religion in his books and my inability to read his books anymore but,

Orson Scott Card's Ender series is friggin amazing. Read the first book for 9th grade Eng class.
technically the Ender series is 3 or 4 book then theres another series continuing the story thats another 3 or 4 books then he has several more books filling gaps.
The first 6 are the best.

Speaking of English class, 8th Grade Martin the Warrior by Brian Jacques. This book popped my bubble of literary ignorance. I developed empathy with the characters/critters so well I laughed and I cried.
The storytelling is too underrated. Brian Jacques ought to be a household name for storytelling.
The badgers are my favorites. They come from the volcano, Salamandstrom, and are fierce yet noble warriors who protect the peaceful field-mice who reside at Redwall abbey.
