So what if the cooltube fan fails? FIRE?!

Just wondering, what will happen if my fan for the cooltube for hps goes off? Would a 400w bulb just fail and stop working after a minute or two overheating or would it work heating up the tent and surrounding to dangerous temps?

Been running 2/1000's in cool tubes with just a 6" inline fan and it's been good for 5 yrs.
If it fails it would just get very hot.
But if you are checking your garden regular than you will catch it before something major happens.

I use a thermal cut off thingy, prevents hot re-strikes too.

But I guess what everyone else has said. The plants would
suffer the most, depending on variables. Guessing your room
exhaust would keep temps from going too high.

Its usually the timer that causes this type of shit.
The hood gets hot, but the glass didnt break or anything.
Ive never had it happen in a cool tube though.
The bulbs are designed to be run in closed fixtures, like the street lights.
Those thermal cutoffs are nice, but if you have an AC make sure the thermal probe for the cutoff is close to the tube or something, cuz the ac will just cool the room more.
Those cutoffs are more to shutoff off the lights if the AC fails, and also to prevent hotstrikes

I have overtemp protection......I monitor temp in the tent and if ever goes above 95 Deg, it will cut the power off to the ballast via a contactor.

One thing to keep in mind......if possible run power to lights and fan / exhaust from same circuit, that way power cannot be lost on fan exhaust without losing power to lights as well.

"Sail switches" are commonly used in industrial electronics to insure that airflow doesn't quit. The contacts on the switch are interlocked with the control circuit, in this case they would be placed in series with the lamp control relay. They come in a wide variety of sizes and configurations - check eBay.
