Two Milpitas men were arrested this week following three related raids on private residences around town allegedly being used as illegal marijuana grow houses, Milpitas Police Department reported.

On Wednesday, the police department's SWAT team and detectives executed search warrants at three separate locations in the city of Milpitas as part of an extensive marijuana cultivation investigation.

The locations were on Anacapa Court, Pedro Avenue and Jasmine Court, respectively, all of located in different parts of town, police said.

During the operation, a suspect attempted to flee from the Pedro Avenue location but was apprehended by officers. A second suspect was located inside the Anacapa Court residence and was taken into custody without incident, police said.

A search of the three homes revealed more than 2,000 marijuana plants, grow lights, ventilation equipment and other growing accessories. The suspects also bypassed a Pacific Gas & Electric Co. meter and were stealing electricity to support their operation, police said.

Approximately 220 pounds of cultivated marijuana was found in addition to more than $15,000 cash. The seized marijuana had a street value of more than $2.2 million, police said.

The suspects were identified as Bao Cao, 24, of Milpitas, who arrested on Anacapa Court, and Thien Cao, 19, of Milpitas, arrested on Pedro Avenue.

Both suspects were booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sales, sales of marijuana, theft of utilities and conspiracy, police said.

A witness to the raid on Pedro Avenue told the Milpitas Post that the house had been deemed suspicious for a while, police said.

"We've known there has been something going on for months," Matthew O'Brien, a 28-year Milpitas resident, said.

Over several months, O'Brien said he and his neighbors noted strange people and vehicles -- sometimes panel vans -- had been seen coming and going from the premise at all times of the day or night. He added all of the Pedro Avenue home's windows appeared shuttered while the occupants lived there.
"Every blind in the house was closed," O'Brien said.

O'Brien further related neighbors in prior months had complained to Milpitas police about the strange activities going on at the home but the police had not done anything about residents' concerns.

"It's gone on forever," he added.

On Wednesday, after officers had left the Pedro Avenue residence in question, O'Brien said he walked over to the home and stood outside the residence and took a "big sniff."

"It was really obvious there was a lot of marijuana inside," O'Brien said.

Anyone with any information regarding this investigation is encouraged to call Milpitas Police Department at (408) 586-2400. Information can also be given anonymously by calling (408) 586-2500.

Stealing power,Traffic in and out,Boarded up windows definately a way to get busted.I like hearing about stories like this because it teaches me shit.My question is how do idiots like this come up with enough money to fund these huge operations?

If i had 2000 plus plants i would act like a church mouse.IF i had an op like this i would be very mindful of the things i did.In fact it would be a one or two man thing too many people and too many mouths can get you busted.I would set everything up with clones, flower a fast maturing strain and be out.

Yeah it my hobby as well for years to read up on pot busts especially in my area gotta have your game tight. You should at least be on a wave and smile level with your neighbors less likely to call Leo if they like you but these jokers with the vans and in and out traffic just caused too much attention.
