Read this article today and there's a lot of serious companies starting to invest in cannabis.
So here's a hypothetical situation:

1. Marijuana production and sale are legalized universally across the US
2. Big companies start producing high quality bud for very competitive prices
3. It becomes very convenient to acquire bud, much like how you could go buy a 6-pack of beer, or visit a bar for drinks.

Will you keep growing if you can conveniently buy top-quality bud on the cheap? At what pricepoint will you and others start abandoning production because it is no longer worthwhile?

Feel free to add comments, or talk about why/why not

Still never know what all chemicals "others" use

That's exactly why I grow....I KNOW what I used to make the grow successful.

Saw the 'ingredient list' mandated on recreational cannabis containers. Extra crap I'd never use on my seeds/plants. Thanks, but no thanks.

And IF/WHEN big companies start producing....that'll be scary. GMO...here we go!

I will quit growing when I am no longer breathing.

I only grow for my personal use and my friends/family. I KNOW what I use to grow my buds, I KNOW there are no bugs or harmful chemicals and honestly, it is my favorite hobby. The payoff is great when you grow your own herb for months and finally are able to smoke it.

Its a lifestyle for me, not a job.

I already see prices at $6.61 an eighth and people still make great money off that. $800 a lb is $6.60 eights.

Interesting poll results, and thanks for the comments. I was discussing this issue with a friend and wanted to ask this question to a larger community.

Obviously, most of you grow for enjoyment first, and price would have no impact on your choices. But there are growers that operate purely on profit, and need to make money to support themselves. I was mainly trying to probe that population, and see if there was some threshold price floor for smaller operations.

I don't care how cheap it gets, if I can grow my own, I'll always go that route. Quality control baby.

I can buy cheap beer and wine all day. Still like making my own. Same goes for the herb.

I like growing more than selling and even more than I like smoking it.

But why are there microbreweries when you can get a 30 pack of Brand X for $12.99?

I think in the grand scheme it will separate the good and the great. Like wine or craft beers some of the best stuff is made in small private batches, and I pride myself on that. Great poll!

Even if I couldn't smoke (I never sell) I would still grow. Just such a unique plant... Size, shape, color, taste, smell, texture, etc etc

Beautiful. I enjoy growing more than smoking by far

It ain't about the dough. There is a level and type of satisfaction you get from growing that enriches your life. That is FAR more rewarding than buying good bud at cheap prices.
