Just a what if, upon careful thought, too simple, and
perhaps too volatile.

Sometimes I wonder if the ancient Romans were on
to something with the lions and all...

It is behaviour we need to regulate in the public sphere...

If the store pays for a license and collects and pays sales
tax, and is accessible from public roads and sidewalks,
then I doubt its "private", the government is involved
and that can certainly be argued.

No Shoes, No Shirt, No service. Learn it, Live it.

The church sign is good Harry, unfortunately, there's always gonna be dicks somewhere in the world. No amount of legislating is gonna change that..
The "no assholes" sign isn't so good because "who" gets to decide who is an asshole and who is not?

Free enterprise must be dead in America.

Come to Japan my friends.

In 2014 it is still common to see "No Gaijins allowed" signs.

Gaijin = Foreigners,non-Japanese.

I can't just wear a Kimono and Become Japanese. I can't get on my knees and pray myself Japanese. I will never be Japanese. They simply do not want to do business with me for a reason that I can never change It was shocking to the system at first. It was tough after being told yes all my life, to finally be told no. But I got over it. I walked around the corner and spent my hard earned money at Gaijin friendly establishments.

They are great full for every Yen.

By that logic is your home a private home? Must you let everyone in that knocks at your door?

To me, asshole is anyone who is fucking with someone else for no good reason...

Let's all agree on the don't be a dick then.

I don't collect revenue at my house for products or services.

I pay property tax, but no sales tax, and I don't
need a government sanctioned license to do what I do there.

I'm sure the definition of private applies and if I turn a
visitor away from my house for my reasons, there is no
reasonable expectation on part of said visitor to gain entry
for that which I have made publicly available to someone else,
at my private house.

If I have a shop that sells TV's or whatever, would I deny service based
on race, gender, religion or age?

No, but cash is king, lol.

Would you deny someone your services because of their
race, gender, or religion, or age or purple hair or whatever?

Just want to know where you stand on this.

This kind of nonsense just pisses me off.

By Private I mean not government owned. Not tax payer funded. Of course there are standards, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, food, temp regulations.

Just because there is a sidewalk in front of a store, doesn't make that store government run. The side walk is public. Those that disagree with the operating of that business has the right to protest on that public sidewalk.

Private? LOL
Should walmart be allowed to discriminate? Are you saying people can just boycott walmart?
Do we then get tax refunds for paying for their employees benefits?

Wal-Mart's low wages have led to full-time employees seeking public assistance. These are not the 47 percent, lazy, unmotivated bums. Rather, these are people working physical, often difficult jobs. They receive $2.66 billion in government help each year (including $1 billion in healthcare assistance). That works out to about $5,815 per worker. And about $420,000 per store. But the federal and state aid varies widely; in Wisconsin, a study found that it was at least $904,542 a year per store. (See the accompanying chart.)

Why, I keep asking myself, do we effectively want to subsidize a private company’s employees?

That's exactly how it works over here now. Big companies pay wages that someone cannot feed, clothe, and house themselves with, and the taxpayer has to make up the difference. Subsidising the wage bills of the mega corporations, it is absolutely fucked. And of course the people receiving the benefits are labelled as scroungers, lazy, indolent etc, in a full on attack throughout the media. But now subsidising their wage bill isn't enough, now they are doing away with wages altogether. Unemployed? Go and work at Asda (Wal-Mart UK), full time, for dole money... Slavery it may not be but it is serfdom. I have no problem with them saying to someone here's a job, the 1st pay is due on xxxxxx, your money stops then whether you take it or not, but giving these fuckers free workers, and then paying them a fee for every person they give one of these "jobs" to, and exempting them from paying taxes such as national insurance, its mental. Apparently we can't afford the benefits, but there is plenty of money to give to the various companies administering the system, and to companies like Unum provident who designed it. To my mind, if there is work to be done, there is a wage to be paid...maybe I'm old fashioned. Of course anyone in America knows all this, because all this shit has been imported into the vassal state known as Britain from the US.

Edited to add
In the west in general, but in the Anglosphere in particular, we are locked into an economic model that requires a permanent large pool of unemployed to keep wages down. This being the case, surely it is immoral for a state which has given up even attempting to attain full employment, not to guarantee people a roof over their heads and food in their bellies, particularly when the elite are taking an ever larger slice of the pie.

A banker, a middle class professional, and a jobseeker are sat down to tea, there is a tray of cookies. The banker takes all but one of the cookies, then turns to the middle class pro and says "Watch out, that dole-scum wants your cookie!".

Yes, they should be allowed to refuse the business of any piece of shit that walks in the door.
They just arent allowed to hide behind religion to discriminate against anyone for anything.
Being refused service for being a dick is not the same as being refused business cuz you suck dick, or dont like dick

I would offer my services to Westboro, just like the
servicemen kill and die to protect their right to free speech.

Suck it up bro, freedom cuts both ways.
