I generally do not respond to such asinine statements but in this case I fell compelled to call bullpussy.

I have in the past smoked what is euphemistically called resin (bowl tar) as a result of...well we all know why.

In all of those times has that excrement ever tasted any better than what is was...shit.

As to your perceived sensitivity...well, if you don't mind, I will judge for myself what is sweet and tasty regardless of what you say.

I tossed two of those halfway decent (never said they were primo. lol) harlequin buds to a lifelong Colorado resident (Denver and the mountain areas around it) who's in their late 50's. Their initial comments?

1. That smells 'really' good.

10 seconds later...

2. That doesn't smell like weed at all!?

Considering what I've run into in Colorado in the last 4 years? The statement keeps echoing through my head but it doesn't surprise me. *Doh!*

The pipe residue contains THC and other cannabinoids, solid particles such as ash and pyrolitic compounds found in smoke. It is a concentrate of everything you inhale and more, because of the large solid particles that stick to the viscous tar.
The general consensus is that this material is not good for you to smoke. That's because of the foul taste and the compounds that may be carcinogenic or mutagenic created by the burn. They are collected and concentrated in the residue.
I wouldn't go that far. When you smoke a pipe you are inhaling the very same compounds. It's sort of like smoking a roach joint. I don't know if it makes a difference that both the compounds and the THC is concentrated in pipe residue. It takes less of the concentrate to get high.
One way of reducing the amount of ash and other impurities in the pipe resin is to soak it in warm water. The resin loses much of its odor and it looks like some of the ash falls out, too. For best results, press the resin into a thin sheet so that there is more surface-to-mass and more of the resin comes in contact with the water.
I'm not advocating using bong resin, but I know that sometimes there is nothing left and you're down to the proverbial stems and seeds and bong resin. Consider my suggestions a harm reduction strategy. If you have to use the resin, clean it up.

If you're just growing for yourself in soil, using liquid organic fertilizer, you can do a pre-cure; just water normally but stop using the nutes for 30 days before the finish.

The quantity/quality of the trich's seems to remain the same as with normal flushing but the chlorophyll in the bud is mostly gone.

...... just pluck/pop that thang in the microwave and put it yer pipe - smokes real smooth right off the vine!

If you have a 8 week strain you would starve the plant if you stopped feeding for the last thrirty days..Id rather smoke resin then microwaved bud.If you are using organics some people run it right to harvest without a flush.Most just flush the last week.How does starving the plant for half of the flowering cycle cure your bud faster?

You're Pissed? I'm the one that sees such a huge problem with general cannabis quality that I was prompted to post this thread.

Do you know I hit almost every dispensary in the L.A. area, around 2008, and there was only ONE dispensary I hit that sold quality cannabis... and every strain they had was that way, just awesome.

Made me take a good long look at what I'd been doing in my own garden for the previous 5 years because everyone raved about my cannabis and it wasn't nearly as good as this stuff was.

No idea what their methods were but I'm pretty sure I'm growing something pretty close to that quality now.

Ask yourself...

- Have I been in multiple states and sourced cannabis from hundreds, if not thousands, of growers over the decades?
- Have I sampled the best quality to be had in multiple medical cannabis states, from some of the finest growers?
- Have I spent significant personal time researching the subject of quality cannabis and applied/tested that information in my own garden?
- Have I spent daily time looking for new information on cannabis from the sources available?
(That means more than an hour a day, every day)

Should you be able to say no to one or more of those questions, ya probably shouldn't be making bold statements in this thread.

Well Son, you can stick the resin where ever you want it, microwave or straight to the bowl, it's a personal choice!

...... and starving your plant is exactly what you want to do if you want to get the bud to the bowl as quickly as possible. You want to cure the bud while the plant is still alive but dieing slowly.

As I understand it there are 2 reasons to cure your bud: 1) to breakdown (remove) the chlorophyll. 2) to decarb the resin.

By starving the plant for the last half of the flowering cycle you are using up the chlorophyll and remaining nutes that are there. When the plant is mostly completely yellow, the chlorphyll (green) is gone, hence the pre-cure. When the plant is 'done' most of the work of the cure has already been accomplished.

It's all about the timing as you don't want the plant to completely die before the resin in the trich's has fully developed.

...... think of it as a plant on life-support while the precious cargo is still finishing up.

...... and just picture how clean that tar will smell/taste after you've scraped it out of the bowl!
