Ventilation and plant stress vs light quality

Hey y'all, first grow, first post, lurking for a while gathering info, and it's time to get into the mix. Some might say my goal is a little bit ambitious being a noob, but i'm pressed for time and need to make some medical cannaoil.

First, my question - what's the better trade-off for good grass.. cool tubes (winged reflector type) with reduced light output, or bare bulbs with overpowered fans stressing the plants with too much moving air ??

Here's my plan for grow room size and spec (in the beginning i was planning 2x 600w HPS, but then i realized i could get more bulbs in there, closer to the plants WITH a better spectrum mix, and more 'useable' lumen/PAR ouput):

- 1.2m to 1.3m W , 1.8m to 1.9m L , and 2m to 2.3m H (actual total length will be a little more for a clone/mother chamber)
- 6 plants
- 2x 400w dual spectrum HPS horizontally
- 2x 250w MH hanging in between the six plants
- Ventilation : this would be the question mark

So it comes down to the main question from above. I'm not sure as to which option is best/healthiest for my plants. I could go one way and put the 400's in series in cool tubes to keep temps down, drawing air from outside the grow room for them , and use a second small fan for the normal 1 to 2 air changes per 5 minutes .. or i could go the other way and leave bare bulbs while using strong ventilation to clear the whole grow chamber. The 250's i plan on leaving bare.

What do the more experienced have to say??

Next to that i'm not sure if should use both 250's for veg or one 250 together with one 400, before turning them all on for flower.

Any advice much appreciated.. i'm open to options!! One idea for example was to use normal winged reflectors and put holes in the tops where small fans would directly extract heat, IF someone could confirm that that would be effective for keeping total ventilation size down as to not stress the plants.

first all.. u need to see what will work with your environment.. everyones environments are different.. that's why u see the same clone taking on different looks and smells and tastes growing from different growers...

second.. I would test my temps and humidity.. by setting everything up barebulb.. and if I can keep my temps with lights on low enough.. and my lights off temps high enough.. then do barebulb.. for yield it works better...

if u cannot control your temps.. with barebulbs then use the cool tubes.. and hang the 250s vert barebulbs .. and see what your temps r.. and humidity.. and your light coverage.. see how its going to work..

if that's not working. .try the 400s in cooltubes with a single 250 between them vert bare... see if that will work.. .. you get the idea.. you only have a few ways you can do this.. figure out which one works to get your temps and humidity in the right ranges for veg. and or flower..

but obv if u can run barebulbs.. that's the way to go ..id run hoods to reflect your light down from the horizontals.. but u deff wana veg horizontally.. flowering is were u need that extra kick of lights..

but shit man if u need help post after you try a few of those options.. kuz if u cant control your temps and humidity.. you will run into problems in flower...

I have grown bagseeds that was amazing buds.. with the right environment. feeding schedule and it was great buds.. no1 knew it was bagseed genetics.. but it also came out of a bag that I knew the grower.. and I knew were the pollen came from.. which is a lot different then pullin a seed out of swag and expecting the best

genetics aren't everything.. but u need to dial in everything else to get crappy genetics to be decent buds.. so for me I think ENVIRONMENT is #1.. NUTES AND FEEDING SCHEDULES and READING THE PLANTS AND WAT THEY NEED is #2 and Genetics is # 3. GROWING WISE.

but also flushing at the right time.. chopping them down at the right time. my rule.. if u think its done.. wait another week.. if it continues to swell or smell better.. it wasn't done. then u got . .. trimming.. curing.. all can turn a amazing bud into crap.. or a ok bud into good bud.. or turn crappy looking bud.. into a really nice high..

that's the thing.. people don't get.. GROWING IS 3/4s and trimming and curing is 1/4 of getting amazing weed.

sorry for writing a book. I hope this helps.

All good information.

keep in mind the min/max temps your house may hit during the 3 months you're flowering.

There's a ton of info you're going to acquire over the next couple of years. Take it slow, don't panic and be as consistent as you can. Whatever you do, keep reading. lol

Welcome to the wide, wild, world of medical cannabis. :tiphat:

Yeah it seems that it all comes down to exactly that, there is only a few ways, and i suppose i'll be changing it up as ambient temps change. I'll invest in those cool tubes right now, as i'll probably need them, if not now, then in a few months. In any case i need to have everything on hand to make the grow happen so that i can make oil after harvest. Have a cancer patient in the family, time's a tickin', so there's no time to waste.

Anywhoo, thanks for long post.. a good read is a good read!!

Have a cancer patient in the family, time's a tickin', so there's no time to waste.
You can start their healing and significantly increase their chances of survival with the following:

1. Avoid Chemo or Radiation therapy unless seriously life threatening. This only damages the immune system, so use it as a last resort.

2. Change their diet now. Refined/Processed foods, hydrogenated and other adulterated oils, sugars, artificial anything... needs to be removed from their diet. Cancer feeds (depending on the type) on fats or sugars by burning them and these foods stop the immune system from operating at optimum.

3. Find their blood type and have them start learning their food lists. I cannot stress how important this is as there are "Cancer SuperBeneficial" foods for every blood type and secretor status. Have them eat as much raw 'beneficial' food as possible. Dehydrate meat into jerky instead of cooking it, don't buy store jerky.

4. Keep the blood pH in the upper alkaline ranges. Cancer burns sugar or fat to get oxygen... usually because the body is so acidic the red blood cells are unable to transport enough oxygen through the blood stream. Eating a 70% alkaline and 30% acidic diet will go a long way toward keeping your oxygen levels at optimum and making things difficult for the cancer to thrive.

All of these things together will provide a dramatic improvement while the cannabis is being prepared. I firmly believe in a combination of the proper food and body pH to maximize the effectiveness of the cannabis.

Remember that it's 250F for "UP TO" 15 minutes when you're decarbing the cannabis oil. I usually take it off the heat when the larger bubbles stop and that's been around 8 min. Older cannabis has taken less, even had a batch that went 1 minute. lol

Should your heat source for the oil bath be hard to keep at an even temp, shoot for a lower temp and cook it longer. Again, just until the larger bubbles cease to form rapidly.

Thanks for the info! Chemo or radiation is gonna be a must for now, just found out that its malignant, pancreatic cancer.. not good, one of the worst actually. The oil, i'll be making differently from the RSO method, which just seems to be a new 'fad', or at the most just one way of doing it. Extracting cannabinoids has been around for several thousand years after all. I'll be doing it with olive oil (homemade!) at 100degrees for 2 hours.

I'm aiming for the most cannabinoids as opposed to only high THC. I'll even be leaving the plants a little longer to mature into more medicial bud.. suppose i'll grab a good magnifying glass to do that properly.

As far as the other advice it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.. but she's a tough one so, fingers crossed!
