You can do macro photography with your current lens. Have you ever tried freelensing? Do a search on google on how to do it - but basically you detach your lens, flip it around, and start experimenting with the distance from the plant. I think you can use the live video mode so you can see what the effect will be. You get shots like this:
Well worth experimenting with before paying for a macro.
Oh no way, thats an awesome trick dude. I'll suss it out and see how i go, And i'll def look into a 150 - 200mm and ring flash, Thanks for the info lads Much appreciated
Oshay welcome to IC, you received some good advice so far, I have used the reversed lens technic and I have several Sigma lenses that do a decent job but for the real mirco trich images the Canon MPE 65mm lens is considered the best. You'll need more than a lens buddy, good lighting, a rock solid tripod, remote release, and mirror lockup I also recomend. Good luck, we look forward to seeing your pix...DD
Thank you for the warm welcome, I've got all the other bits and piece's just searching for that special Macro, I'll scout around for the canon MPE 65mm if thats the best out there, I do tend to get ALOT of use out of it so i'm after quality with decent feedback on the product so it seem's that lens may be the one i'm chasing.
Foomar - that is a nice shot using that technique, better than i could get after playing around with diffrent angles for awhile.
