Terpenation at Terpene Station

I make sure the collection pot is at least at -10. That last run, I didn't heat the collection pot at all until the column wasn't iced. One time I heated the collection pot and watched the butane jump up in the column. I have also seen the butane vine back down from the vent tube.

I've ran it so many different ways, just trying to lock down a method but then the temperature outside changes and screws with everything. It seems what works when it is 50 degrees out doesn't work when it's 20 degrees. I now have a location that maintains a constant temperature year round so hopefully I can get it figured out. Lol.

Try to just knock the ice off. You dont heat your collection pot unless it ices up. Then a Quick dip to get the ice off.. If u want a bigger collection pot, go wider, not taller.

I got my can tapping done over the weekend.:dance013:
I kept the bottom in a tank of water with a submersible pump and water heater that held the water between 65 and 75. The temp dropped the longer I ran. I think if I had two heaters set to 85 it would work pretty well. I was left with a little bit of nasty smelling mystery oil I sure am glad to have that out, it smelt awful but there really wasn't much.

What should the procedure be for shutting everything down? When I was done I still had some liquid butane in the hose going to the storage tank and some in my appion when I opened the liquid port after disconnecting everything.

Also I built my evaporation chamber, I'm pretty proud of it but not proud enough to post pictures haha I made it out of things I could find in my house last night while I was snowed in.

Should I worry about a spark from one of the fans igniting the alcohol vapors?

My chamber has a glass dish in a water bath where the water is sealed off except for touching the bottom and sides of the pan. I'm going to have a submersible heater in there set to 85 with a pump to circulate the water and help regulate the temperature. After I've winterized and its evaporating at 85, would I then need to turn off the heater and let it set up? And its fully purged of butane and alcohol at this point?

Any advice on dissolving the large amounts of oil in ethanol?

Any advice on sourcing cheap ethanol?

Is making my own more trouble than its worth?

Also has everyone switched over to doing multiple column dumps or just the one at the end?

Sorry for all of the questions but the more I do the more questions I come up with lol.

I wish there was just a hand book. I've been trying to put one together but there is just so much content to sort though.

Lastly If I wanted to make UNwinterized shatter, how could I do that in the bottom of the terp without the clear lid to see what I'm doing? Is it pretty much impossible to make a nice clear sheet of shatter without addition equipment? I'm going to have to make some oil for people who don't want it winterized and I don't want to have to waste ethanol making theirs into shatter since getting ethanol is a pain in my state. They don't want the cotton candy.

You guys are awesome I would be lost without your guidance I appreciate your help so much. Peace

Thanks GW, I noted them after you mention them in a comment on your site. Was hoping to find some premade but I'll contact them about a custom set.

Young bull. When I am shutting down which for my non pour method is when the vac is down to about -20 to -22.
When its at that vac I turn off the recovery valve so the pump can suck any butane in the recovery hose out and push as much into the tank as possible.
While that is going on I remove the vac pump host, unscrew the butane flood hose which has a valve on it.
Then, close the valves on the tank, turn off the pump, remove the recovery hose, then the filter drier. Then I very slightly open a valve on the terp to bring the pressure up.
Then I remove the appion hose from the tank and open the valve on that hose to let out any butane, and open and close the valves on the appion to remove any more inside. I'm not sure if this totally works but it seems too.
then open the valve on the remaining flood hose on the tank and let out any butane.
Basically done then, just have to pull apart the terp.

I would say it would be difficult to make shatter in the collection pot without a clear lid. Its important to see whats going. Even with a clear lid I imagine scrapping shatter from the end cap would be a challenge.

So, red dye in my screen and oil must be from leaving gas in a red hose? Damn I always make sure they are empty. The one time I don't Now what?

refrigerant hoses are lined with white/clear teflon or nylon. the red/blue/yellow rubber outside should not touch your butane. go with stainless corrugated hoses with JIC connections if your worried about gaskets, hoes material etc.

So if it wasn't the hose then I wonder where it came from. I haven't actually seen the red yet. I had a friend go get some tubes ready to run and he said he saw it. I'm assuming whatever it was would have been left behind in the terp and didn't get into my gas

If you warm the ethanol first, the oil will more easily dissolve.

No cheap ethanol due to taxes. Where legal, it is cheap and easy to make your own using a compound refluxing still.

We've experimented with bottom floods and overflowing the first two and bottom dumping two more. We added the flush after the dump, because of you think about the quality of the last dump, you will know what the material in the column was left soaked in.

Another flood and dump will get it, but it takes less butane just to flush it.

I have mine made with an NPT fitting on the end that goes in the valve and JIC on the pump ends, to eliminate one seal. As I make them all exactly the right length, it hasn't been possible to find stuff off the shelf.

Good question! As noted, refrigeration hoses are lined with a thermoplastic like nylon or Kevlar, which aren't red.

Just thinking out loud here, but maybe I have rust in my recovery track. The red is in the bottom screen and filter and I have been getting a bunch of debris in my oil.

Good point. You may have rusty water at the bottom of your tank, deep enough for the dip tube to start picking it up.

You might try turning your tank upside down and cracking the vent valve, to see what comes out............
