changes in tap water ,due to the flooding? feb 2014

it may be just me ,but i have noticed i am not having to put as much ph down in my tap water!!!
i have checked my ph meter and the spare one today with a bottle of water brought from a shop .and they are both good to 0'1 ph differential of the water in the bottle!
ok so my theroy is that due to all the flooding ,the water at the treatment plants may be a little off kilter ?

anybody else notice any changes ?
all the best ww

Yes. I noticed it about a week to 10 days ago.

Went and got new buffer to re calibrate. Meter is good.

I live on the south coast and I notice I need about 0.4ml less ph down per 12lts. And it also sits more stable.

My theory is that due to being on the South Downs which are chalk and the rain being so heavy and the chalk completely saturated, the rain run off isn't filtering throuh the chalk and isn't being made as alkaline as normal.

I have noticed this as well , last week I added my usual amount of pH down it came back at 5,4... not 6.0 re, no ph down needed.

its happened for years ,bloody mystery, i'm not sure why the ph changes and i'm no expert but our tap water goes through loads of treatment before coming out the tap ,,this is to maintain quality for human consumption ...so it should always be the same ,,but even the ec changes ,,i gave up in the end and got a filter

Around here we got a small reservoir, well it's a big, underground tank, I suppose, on a hill. It acts like a header tank and gets topped up from elsewhere. Elsewhere is any of several big reservoirs and a ground water pumping station.
I imagine there's some bloke sat in a room full of dials and gauges who decides it's time to turn off the pipe from one rez and turn on another depending on which one is at which level. But it's probably all done automatically by computers.

So several different sources, each with their own ph means my tap water ph can change almost every day at any time of year. Sometimes it stays the same for weeks then it could change twice in a couple of days.

I got a letter through the post saying the water may change but it will still be of the same high quality. Lol. Found it changes dramatically from area to area some places plants prefer it to other places.
