what happened to 90 days?

anyone remember when most plants were taken to 90days or more? remember when 90-120 days was standard for a full flower? i just thought about it while i was reading over some shit i had written previously was calculating days/weeks in my head.

i know i'm not 100% crazy yet but wasn't the norm around 90 days for most plants and some exceptionally fast strains were closer to 65-70 and one or two literally that were anywhere near done under 60 days. but nowadays it seems like everything is recommended to be chopped near 70 days. are there just so many strains bred for fast flowering now that is seems that way? did we come to a consensus somewhere back down the line that over 80 days was too long? am i just crazy?

i seem to clearly remember 70days was some early bird cash cropping tactics. thoughts?

Gladly go the distance for a haze or sativa headstash, but the 60-75 day hybrids are hard to beat.
You going to take a nice Skunk or NL x Haze over a Chem or OG Kush?

The beauty of a proper hybrid, yes sir! :D

i dunno, those are just names to me. but i do wonder if we're cheating ourselves not taking the plants longer than the 70 days as is the current trend.

It´s just like the raise of fast-food. People want to kill their hunger with the less effort and in the shortest amount of time.
If you´re growing just because you want to get high, you´ll go for the fastest&easiest plant as long as you get high with it.
If you´re doing it just for money you want fast&potent herb in order to maximize your profits.
My guess is that only if you grow for the sake&pleasure in it you´ll find the time&effort necessary to grow the long flowering strains.
In my experience i´ve found amazing plants on the both ends. Impressive Indicas that are finished around 50days and that delivered all that i wanted/needed and also slower flowering hybrids or sativas that take the game to a whole new level.
So in my view it´s all good, it´s just a case of demand vs offer ;)

stihgnobevoli, I've wondered about that myself. One of my big questions was when to start counting flower. I've heard from when you switch to 12/12 or when you start seeing flowers. The thing is, either of the two can be quite a few days apart. I've been going from when I switch to 12/12 just for ease and just run a little "longer" than I probably have to.

I'd go to harvest my plants and I'd remember the saying "if you think they're ready, wait a week" well, having the patience I have, going by that theory, I would have let the plants flower forever. So after all the procrastination, I decided to give them the chop at day 101. Now watching the trichs, when I harvested, I'd say they were about 5% clear, 65% milky and 30% amber.

I have clones of that plant running now that I decided to harvest at day 87. Honestly, I feel they could have gone longer but I have other projects that I'd like to start. I still have 12 more plants that I left going and am thinking of pulling them at day 94. The 87 day plants trichs were 10% clear 80% milky and 10% amber.

I mainly wanted to see what would happen if I let them flower "longer" than the norm. One thing I noticed, that I can't pin point on flowering time due to the variables involved, is the plants I harvested at day 87, I feel have a LOT more trichs. I grew them all in the same media, but the 101 day plants were hand watered while the 87 day plants were self watered with a wick. The 87 day plants used WAY more water than the 101 day plants did. So, the extra water could have caused the abundance of trichs, I don't know. On top of that, the 101 day plants were under a 600w while the 87 day plants were under a 150w. Doesn't really help the situation lol

I'm going to have to run some more experiments in my cab with like variables and see what happens. The 101 day flowers have been jarred for 19 days now while the 87 day plants have been drying for 2 days. Once the 87 day flowers have cured some, I'll have a few of us test between them all and see if there is a noticeable difference. Until then, I'm going to start harvesting the same clones at different times and keep all of the variable the same. Curious to see if there is a difference with them.

Dont harvest your plant by a strict number of days, they are done when they are done, every strain is different.

:yeahthats

I harvest at around 5-10% amber trichomes, depending on the strain. This runs around 70-80 days for most everything I have. The C-99 I had was done in around 65-70 days.

Would love to have some 11-12 week, high CBD Sativas that are all clear like Harlequin. :)

i've been harvesting when i see mostly cloudy. but i don't get the high i remember from back in the day. i mean i get plenty high...but it's not the same...you know?

i had some weed way back in the day i was high for 8 hours. i remember routinely being high over 2-3 hours off 1 blunt between 4guys. but even my own home grown max i can notice an appreciable high is less than 2 hours.

i'm just wondering if 90days is min for ripeness despite trichomes.

imma take the next batch over 90 and see what i notice vs harvesting when all/mostly cloudy.

might also just be my tolerance is through the roof.

Yup, try switching up cultivars. I agree the longer flowering ones
offer up more clean/deep high.

Nothing in my garden gets chopped before 90 days.

Do you do edibles?

only thick clouds of smoke will do for me.

You're bitching about the effects of prohibition on cannabis breeding genetics.

The strains of today have a lot less CBD in them. Makes the THC hit harder but it doesn't last as long. Fortunately there's a new awareness of this and breeders are focusing on CBD production.

Should see the 8hr stuff coming back around in the future.

I have felt 8 hours using medibles. not the same high as smoke because part of the effect of combustion (terpenes et al)
...or should I say part of the effect is lost in digestion/metabolism in the liver....I try for 12 weeks as a yardstick.

Depends on the strain. Even super autos, sativa dominant grow up to and more than 100 days. The package says 85 days....I wait and watch with loupe....that's my indicator.

Pretty much my sativas are not ready until mid-late September. Climate/temp hamper finish times, too.
