Installing Power Strip On Power Supply Help

I'm having trouble with my power supply wiring. I have 2 ac plugins on this power supply and it has a lot of wires that I don't know which ones to hook up to the 3 wires from the power strip. I want to use the plug on top because that's the one that the cord goes in that came with the pc case. Any and all help would by thankful.

no schematics on the inside of the housing unit?..if not try and google them.

also, you might have better luck finding an answer by searching insome kind of computer forums...lots of the time people here can help, but if you want a lot of people chiming in on a subject not many people know much about, I say go straight to the source. As soon as you flash that pic and question on one of those forums you'll have a bunch of eggheads swarming to it. Thats what I would do anyway.

best of luck.

Thanks for the advice not4n. I posted the pictures and question here because this is my #1 maryjane site and the ICMAG FAMILY always knows the right answers. I check those other computer sites also for answers.

Interesting arrangement, I've never seen that on a power supply. The top one is a US standard, the bottom one appears to be a European plug. If the top one was previously used and you have the cord, I'm not sure what your question is - that should work to feed the supply, and just plug the cord into your plug strip. Make sure that the voltage selection switch is set for 115 (where it appears to be in the picture) and it should work fine.

To rives, the top plug has a blue and brown wires on it and there is a on and off switch in the middle with red and black wires. The question is how to wires the wires from the top plug and the on/off switch to my 3 wire power strip.

Are you trying to install at 110v power strip?

If so, what I did was cut all wires coming from the top plug on your power coverter and match them to the ones on the power strip. This will work. But render your small fan useless until you install some kind of converter from 110v to 12v

The blue and brown wires are for 12v usage...

It looks to me like the two pictures are flipped over from one another - the picture of the outside of the panel shows the US plug on the top, and the picture of the inside shows the European plug on top. In the EU, blue is the neutral (our white wire) and brown is the hot wire (black here). The voltage selection switch should determine which plug header is actually used to energize the power supply.

I still don't understand what you are trying to do - from what you've written, it sounds like you want to use the cord that came with the PC to plug into the US-standard header and then hook the internal wiring to the plug strip. If this is correct, why are you doing it this way? Normally the pc cord male plug would go to the power strip, and the female to the power supply, and the power supply would be energized when the plug strip was turned on. If this is not what you want, what are you trying to do? Are you using the power supply to power some DC fans?

Forget about schematics and whatnot- what you need is a continuity tester. Most cheap digital multimeters have a continuity check function, or if you want to go extreme low cash, you can buy a simple circuit checker consisting of two wire leads and a light from the hardware store.
Using it is easy. Just touch one lead to the metal inside the socket hole, then while holding the first lead in place, touch each exposed wire on the other end of the fixture until you get a beep or the light illuminates (depending on what type of circuit tester you're using). This will let you know for sure which socket connects to which lead, and when it comes to electricity, you really want to know for sure...

The Update

The Update

Thanks everyone for the help on the PSU but I decided to replace the unit with one I knew how to wire up. Here are the photos showing the power strip cord wired to the plug on the inside of the PSU. I will run the air pump, fans & lights with this strip, but the lights will be installed on another power strip with plugin sockets plugged into a timer then into the first power strip. I only have one cord exiting the case for stealth.
