Northernleitz Wins by about 15%

Wet weight of course. Quality appears about the same.

Partly I would say its because of the lower power draw of the BS. A 240 with 3w diodes should draw what the Northernleitz does. I have a friend that said his BS was only drawing about 130 watts. Thats neither here nor there but is fishy if true.

I think the biggest separation is the growth pattern of these lights.
The BS stretched upwards blocking light to the lower quadrants.
The NL stretched more outward and had good internode length. I had seen this before in previous grows with this light and chalked it up to the plant. Pretty consistent in this with 3 different strains including the Norther Lights that was re-vegged.
Now while stretch may be a negative to some this actually allows better penetration to the lower branches (See Pic).
Not so much with the BS as anything more than 6" down the plant was fluff.

Northern Lights

Northern Lights

2.5 ounces

This was the Re-Veg plant that last run produced over 6 ounces under the same light. You can parse back to see the bad ju-ju of the re-veg.

So potentially I am thinking and easy 24 Oz from this garden and likely more if I just ran Northern Lights. My next LED run will probably be 3 various NL varieties and maybe a high yielder like Chronic for fun. Maybe some NL crosses as its so far has done the best.

Back with the NL vs BL final count,
JH

Oh and no more Re-Vegging ever.....

ICE - Blackstar 240 Dry

ICE - Blackstar 240 Dry

2.9 Ounces

Decent Bud Formation. Not as dense or as large as the Northern Lights but a smaller light as well.

ICE - Northernleitz BB-240 - Dry Weight

ICE - Northernleitz BB-240 - Dry Weight

3.5 Ounces

Slightly more dense than the BlackStar.
Both of the Ice nuggets are a lot less green than the NL or Snowcap. Very mild smoke and the cure is at least a few weeks off.

Strain Selection is Key with LED

Strain Selection is Key with LED

Like i have stated before different strains respond better to different diode arrays. Some strains will fare better under a straight 660nm red pattern and others do better with some 630nm in the mix.

If I was simply going for yield I would grow all Northern Lights from seed. This garden is capable of producing 1/2 lb dried per plant with NL. Yields would be better if I were a daily plant caretaker as well. These go on autopilot for as long as 10 days as I need to go out of town for work. Some attention to LST would bump the yields as well but I am a light smoker and do not really care how much I get.

I of course prefer to experiment and will likely run 3 brands of Northern Lights and a wildcard strain looking for another heavy yielder. Hope to find at least 3 strains that reliably produce 8 ounces per using the Northernleitz units. Not impressed by the Blackstar really especially when it was $50 more than the others.

My next runs will be EFDL so if you are in the Portlandia area and want to run some LED tests shoot me a PM. Love to see someone else take a crack at these and continue my strain search.

I am always looking for a strain that will trump the Northern Lights. The first run was 6.7 ounces without getting much attention. If I can get these strains to not finish 3 weeks early then the yields will easily bounce to 1g/w+

My only real requirement is that you are published and will publish the results.

Looking much forward to your continauted LED adventure,
so much to Explorer in that direction :)

I am confused why you cut down on day 40?

Outside of the Northern Lights those plants were done. Glands were cloudy not amber but basically done.

Still trying to solve the mystery of why my LED grows finish so early and want to pursue a 13/11 regimen. Maybe even might try 14/10.

Well I am probably done with using entry level LED's. Pretty much maxed these cheapies out and will develop a line of higher end LED's next. Quite sure that Northernleitz units will outgrow anything in its class including VIPAR. Most of the sub $1 per watt units seem to be junk but these were made by a quality vendor.
You get what you pay for folks no more no less and most folks will not pay for quality in my experience.

Looking for a modular unit that can have all its parts easily replaced by the user. That way warranty issues won't be a problem with Chinese manufacturers.
