one look at any reservoir tells the tale... its real... on the upside theres like a 49 percent chance or more of el nino this next winter according to scripps....gonna take a lot of water to do any real good tho... expect produce and electric rates to go up along with anything else effected by water....I aint too worried as the water flows by from mountains here....83ppm

Managed to collect 2 50 gal barrels of rainwater today and it's not scheduled to stop till Tues, I believe. Good news! We SO needed this rain! I know it's just the proverbial "drop in a barrel" lol, but any rain is good at this point. Hope the rest of you in Cali are getting plenty of water for our depleted aquifer!

You want to know why there is a shortage of water and why the shortage is only going to get worse? The documentary Blue Gold explains it pretty well. It is available on YouTube.

In Mt. Shasta CA today at 4,000' tree frogs chirping. Normally this time of year it's frikkin frozen. I see some trees leaf buds starting to swell and cedar has been dropping pollen for weeks now. It's not just about water falling from the sky.

how sad this is . I understand that Jerry Brown is going to go for some kind of tunnels to bring water to the Southern parts of the state. I under stand that fracking will be done with part of it as it is called 'regular use'. I do not understand how they can take clean fresh water and destroy it with fracking taking it out of the water cycle for ever and call that 'regular use'.

not a pretty system, sure would like to see things change

There isn't much rain for sure.

I'm glad I didn't buy a season lift ticket, there's almost no snow.

There is an amateur organization for amateur ski-racing in the Pac NW, "PNSA." I am on their mailing list.

I keep getting emails, "Event Y has been cancelled, No Snow on Mount X".

I think this coming fire season is going to be very difficult. It will be dry to begin with, even drier than last year unless something changes.

Over half the water in the western U.S. is consumed by cattle. So look no further than cattle ranching as the cause of the problem. If you eat steaks & burgers, you are part of the problem, even though there is a disconnect between what we personally do and the effects of same.

Haven't eaten any red meat since 1990 after studying the environmental effects of cattle ranching, which are devastating. There are over a billion head of cattle in the world, and they consume most of our resources (grain/water).

It's so bad that every time I flush the toilet, Jerry Brown's hand comes out looking for my wallet.

Maybe that's why my NY Strip steak was so juicy and tender Saturday night. Delicious!!

Which is exactly what happened the last time he 'declared' a drought. When your life or safety is affected, it gets costly. If one is that gullible.

Not that long ago we had this same condition and Arnie did nothing. Of course, it snowed in May..that year and by summer there was enough rainfall. jpt
