It depends on your latitude. There are plenty of Sativa strains that originate in high altitudes.

In regards to Colorado... Depends where in Colorado... the thing to consider would be finishing time. How rainy does it get? When's the first frost or snow? That's likely why you are being aimed towards indica strains (which finish quicker) and originate in mountainous regions with lower humidity. However if its a sativa dominant strain you are looking for there are some neat options out there that can be found by searching for early finish sativa. A couple of companies are saying 8 or 9 weeks to finish.
Depends what kind of high you are in search of.
You could buy a couple afghani seeds (indica) and see how they do and buy a couple bangi haze or nep jam (early sativas) and see how they do. run them side by side and see who likes the environment best.

I'm a high altitude co grower myself and I've had good success with all my hybrids.

People will tell you that these plants can't handle the cold but that is purely strain dependent. The Indica will withstand the cold temps way better than the Sativas and again, this is purely strain dependent.

I'm at 7000ft on the money... my first freeze typically happens in the last week of Sept then it seems to warm again for a while. This freeze kills most of the garden.
Most of my cannabis plants have endured nights that have dropped to 25°F and I've only freaked out once when I woke up to a pile of snow on them.

Most indys will survive and if you would like to grow sativas, I would try to find something that is fast flowering.

Oh yeah... Out door breed in latitudes above 49N, just about all will finish in CO. Northern outdoor breed strains seem to trigger flowering quicker at our latitudes.

I'm high as hell... hope this makes sense. ;)

I ditto your answer! Often times when fall temps are "if-y" I surround in a wall-o-water to keep roots warm. Or being in containers, you can move them into a frost free area, then return to Indian Summer sunshine and warmth.

Hybrids do quite well at higher altitudes. Highest elevation we've grown is 9,200 ft.....mid-late September were the harvest days.

By having hybrids, you get the best of both worlds....cold tolerance and good yield....and still have sativa in the mix.

Get a Pbud cut. Great outdoor old school strain from Paonia.

Is real deal pbud available?

I read an article about a dispensary in Ridgeway trying to get some 70s pbud seed stock to germinate in order to revive the long lost strain.
Article was in the Western Slope 420.
