Rebuilding Appion G5

if you can switch it on and off, then it can't hurt to get it. it is nice when you first start to be able to turn it on and it do nothing while your system is -29 and then it kicks on when you introduce butane

so would you recommend the reftec diablo for a smaller application running butane?

RB is the reftec handivac not as good as you first though? Have you tried the diablos?
I asked century tool about the -10 shutoff option. I still don't know if the diablo won't shut off till -22 without that option. I am not doing the pour method so I need the lower vac from the recovery pump.

the reftec handivac is 2200-2500 and is essentially two diablos in one housing, so yeah its better than a single appion. I know they are more quiet than appions but push/pull rates are comparable.

Starting to hear a slight grinding-chattering noise from the back
of the Appion. Did the pressure test and it shut off in 23 sec, so
I don't think it's the seals. Anyone had the gearbox act up on them?

So am I right that this pump is also not rated for r-600a?

I ordered it from Haskel specifically to pump butane and propane. The only upgrades made were the Viton seals.

The big question with recovery pumps and flammable refrigerants, is what happens if something goes wrong? With pneumatic pumps, there is no electric motor to provide an ignition source.

Seems to be an easy fix, though. Anyone done one? Reusing the fan?

I got mine fixed at Rsd for 80$. They made me do the disassembly and reassembly myself, had a good laugh while I was doing it, they get a kick out of what we are using them for ;)

Is there a doc or a link to how to rebuild the appion gearbox?

Does anyone know of the maximum run time for the g5 and if there is any break in procedure that would be useful to extend its life?

Thinking of upgrading the seals on the appion, dont see any other options for myself at the moment, in efforts to keep this one alive for a long time.

On another note, does anyone purge the left over gases when your done using the unit... ive found sufficient butane sticks around in the unit..

I try to purge my g5 as much as possible when done and make sure all the hoses are empty as well.
