Ever breed robust-looking seeds that won't pop?

I get about a 95% germination rate with seeds that are over a decade old. However, I recently bred some beans that looked robust, and were only a few years old, and none would crack. NOT ONE!

Has anyone else had this experience?

Read a few tips from ICMag....best one...sand paper in small match box. Put seeds in there....shake gently to rough up the exterior, then plant. Sounds logical to me!

Thanks for the tip, Aridbud.

What I experienced was a absolute inability to germinate for an unknown reason. They were realitively fresh, dark, well matured and otherwise great looking beans that appear to have been sterile. That is, seems there was some sort of genetic incompatibility with these two parents that caused them to produce sterile offspring.

Has anyone ever had this happen? It was a first for me.
