DPN's Organic Soil Louis OG XIII + Mystery ??? Seed

:smokey: What's up guys? Thanks for checking out my work. I started growing using organic soil many years ago after being quickly discouraged by the headache of hydro systems.

Much respect to the hydro fellas on here, but I just did not have the resources to have all the equipment I needed, nor the craftiness to construct it all myself.

Veg Light: 42W CFL Warm Spectrum
Flower Light: TBA

I had a bean acquired from a local cut of OG, no idea whether it is from a hermie on the same plant, or hopefully pollinated by a banana on another plant, since it most likely was grown commercially and probably in a room with hundreds of plants.

I also had another bean left from somewhere else I have no idea where it came from but it could be anything from true Lambsbread to Green crack, Jack Herrer, Banana OG, could really be from anything I had sampled over the course of about 5 months in the medical scene.

Also to add to the confusion I don't know which is which so we will just have to all pitch in and hopefully try to ID her when she matures a bit more. Hopefully we can identify both!

Anyway now for the details!

10 Days veg

The Beans were cracked using my patented DVD case Method (paper towel in a slightly opened case wrapped with a rubberband, and placed half under a t shirt near a heat source such as a computer exhaust fan) Then they were dropped into jiffy pucks which were hydrated using bottled water. Tap water has not been used and probably won't.

After that the pucks were placed into clear solo cups once roots showed through the puck-bottom. I used fox farm Happy frog for the soil and idiotically did not mix with perlite for better aeration although it does have some in it in my defense.

14-16 Days since Germination

I transplanted on Day 18 out of the solo cups but I may have waited too long. I smelled a sulfuric smell coming I believe from the plants. I have heard this may be root rot but the plants seem unaffected and are continuing to grow. I still should have added perlite but I did not, hopefully by the next transplant it wont be too late. My hopes were to mom these out, check out the clones, then cut it all down if it's not up to par and bring in local clones.

Day 19 After the transplant. No sign of root gnats, so not sure what the smell was about. Hoping it resolves itself. The soil after all is full of dead bugs, bird poop, and worm feces. Hopefully the beneficial microbes will get in there and munch on any invasive colonies.

Here's a couple pictures of the really high tech set up I have going here. Realistically though, these are just moms so for now this will do until I can find more about what I am working with here. Gotta KISS.

As you can see stretching was a bit of an issue, but they are about to get topped at the incoming node, and then LST'd for branches that should be viable for clones. That or I may crop to 4 shoots, then flower, and cut a bud from each and monster crop them, then clone those, and so on.

DAY 20: ladies are looking about the same, getting used to the new pots, and continuing to developed the first fully mature leaf nodes, they will be topped in 1-3 days. I am wondering, is it safe to use GROW BIG ontop of the Happy Frog? or will that burn my youngins? Thanks for any information!

Got impatient and topped them. Tried to FIM the one but got overaggressive. side shoots are already coming in, and i believe the darker leafed plant is the louis. Also the slower and more finicky/stretchy/branchier/bigger leafs fewer of them' of the two.

Roughly 21 Days :woohoo: Trying to get some crazy GSC "thin mints" tomorrow. Don't know if it's the forum cut but it sure smokes unlike anything I have ever seen. It smells more like real GDP, and not the muffin smelling stuff that has been going around also as GSC. The GDP pheno thin mint has a real classic strong indica purple smell, and is so sticky and lung expansive, and very very very dark buds with neon green calyxes peppered throughout. Smoke has a very strong punch, and a very medical insomnia relieving after effect that puts you down for the count. Really hope I can get a cut of it. Crossing my fingers!

Pix are up...You can get a lot closer to the plants with that bulb I got mine about an inch away from it only thing is you have to scramble em up or they'll have a burn by day 3. Good luck on the GSC, it's a nice cut to have.

So far, Unfortunately, no luck with getting the GSC :blackeye: I guess I will have to settle for some BOG seeds. There's a place that has clones at a driveable distance but they have pretty boring genetics. Good, but just the same old strains. I want to grow something that will be desirable but unique. I really had my heart set on UK Cheese, but I have not seen a clone of it going around. Right now I have big decisions to make, 600w, or 1000w? 4" or 6" ducting? mixed type or inline fan? Digital or magnetic ballast? Also need to figure out what ventilation for which lighting, and then odor control. I also need to acquire mylar. Otherwise I have my box fan and I am prepared for this grow knowledge wise. I will most likely be working with a 100sq ft indoor space, in a dry, airy climate. Noise will be a concern, as will power usage, and odor control. I excercise caution even though this is a 100% legal medical grow for patients usage in compliance with prop 215. I still want to be a polite neighbor. I would like to transition from 1k, to a 3k w perpetual harvest. All organic soil. I would like to experiment with vegan soil mixtures usage minerals for micro and macros. For now I am using the happy frog but I would like to go back to my original recipe which was the old school BOG soil mixture. IT works wonders. For this run I intend to use the FFHF soil and use tiger bloom and Grow Big after the 1 or 2nd week of flowering.

As for the Lighting you are right about the CFL I will move her closer, during the day they have been in direct sunlight indoors. Soon I will get an MH bulb for whatever system I end up going with. Cheers!

Well the topping was somewhat successful, though maybe I could have waited another node for the one. Oh well, the side shoots are comin in!

We even have some action at the lowest node!

and heres on the other plant

and on the other plant...

Shes coming in nicely despite my bad fim! I am hoping to see 4 shoots comin off this one.

And here is a bud of the GSC Thin Mint I wanted to get but unfortunately could not. This is a greener nug out of the batch, the others are dark purple.

resin on this is just absurd.

Here's some more pictures of the new shoots coming in. I watered tonight, and things are looking good except spotting 2 fliers in 24 hours, very small dark black gnats. Not enough to cause alarm could just be larvae from the soil mix.

This little veg part of this grow should show to the small scale grower what can be done with a 20$ lamp and 1/4 of a 7.50$ back of pre-mixed organic soil mixture and the right watering methods. CFL's are underrated. Heck this ain't even a cold spectrum CFL which is why I got the stretching. Can't wait for the HID's! Anyone have any idea how many 1000w's you could get away with in a 10x10? Much thanks

and the runt. Probably the Louis judging based on the branchiness and leaf width.

Well, I regretfully reported that last night something terrible happened. Due to unforeseen events I was without power for an extended period of time between 10-20 hours and the plants were in darkness.

I am going to go on and hope nothing happens, but knowing S1's have a tendency to be unstable, and the Louis OG especially has a tendency for hermie and hopefully its not as bad to have 20 hours of darkness during veg than 20 hours of light in the middle of a flowering period.

Aside from that, the shoots and fan leaves are looking excellent despite the terrible stretching I have encountered due to me being an idiot about hte lights amongst other issues I created.

I am going to toke on some of this Epic Malibu PK and continue to plan my 15x15 flowering room.

Cheers :joint:

Ok Update Time:

I got this product called Tappin Root's... Supposed to be a sea kelp extract root booster similar to the H&G's Exculerator? Except that you can use it allegedly from clone to harvest. What benefit it may have in flowering or even late veg is questionable but apparently it can kick start rooting and transplants. Anyway I didn't use it because I want more feedback on it but I have the sample bottle but I read from the guy allegedly who created it that it can be used as a foliar as well.

They jumped into the 2gallon tubs today and I mixed in some GROWSTONES which is allegedly fiberglass rocks. My local hydro store was nice enough to give me some for free. Unfortunately I regret using them already, I don't think the glass dust was good to inhale, and I still feel like its trickling out of the bottom of the pots where I used them as a grating... instead of perlite which just clumps and can pour out of the large holes in the bottom of the pot.

So my medium is the FF Happy Frog soil(which has perlite), and the Growstones. I gave them water, and I will start the FOX FARMS GROW BIG which I picked up today also. I am hoping to pick up a 1000w system tomorrow.

Oddly enough my terrible FIM actually has created 3-5 shoots. Awesome.

decided to grab a 250w CFL grow light. The cold spectrum will be great to limit stretching, and it's the kind of light I will always need somewhere in my op. I could shell out for the digital gear right off the bat... and use an MH bulb... but this buys me time and I can use it for clones later.

I will be cloning these two bagseeds if they are females, and I am hoping the louis is an S1 and not pollinated by another plant in the room. That way I may see some cool recessive trait phenos. That would be worth some serious money considering how guarded some of the OG genetics are down here in socal. Could have something of value to others here, we will see. Ontop of that I got some bogglegum from the man himself and hopefully I can get those popped and find some good phenos to mother out. To do all of this I am definitely going to be able to put the CFL to good use, and despite the fact that I went into this op planning for HID... I have used CFL's VERY successfully in the past. However I prefer single larger wattage bulbs as opposed to many smaller wattage CFL's I find heat to be 10x as an issue with that.

Cold spectrum flourescent(cfl or tubes) will create the tightest nodes of any light type out there stouter than the LED or MH. I have used them to supplement flowering very successfully and increased yields. If flouros are kept close they ANNIHilate the metal halide.

Day 26ish?

sometimes U gotta grow ghett-o. When you don't have mounts you use stacks of books, and when you dont have pulleys you use shoestrings.

ADDED THE 125W FLOURO it's a hydrofarm flourowing with a cold spectrum bulb. Exactly what I wanted and at 50$ not too shabby from my local hydro. I know the 42w cfl cost nearly that much with the utility lamp housing. So almost 170w of CFL with 125 of Cool and 42w of warm spectrum. A nice balance for veg I feel. I feel this hood was a decent investment and THEORETICALLY I could use it for flowering.

Lightin this J up for you guys. :pimp3:

Update Day 28:

just to inform you guys, I have been dealing with the beginnings of a calcium deficiency due to underfertilization. I guess you really can't use Happy frog soil up until flowering. People told me I could but, clearly I can't. That or theres some minor PH buffering issues that cause lockout, and I didn't know because I don't have PH testing equipment yet.

Removed 2 fan leaves as you'll see from all of the pictures. You can see the necrosis forming in two expressions, the first above, and the second below:

Prior to transplant the plants had become somewhat root bound and more than likely consumed most of the nutrients in the happy frog. They became deficient and even after transplanting continued to suffer until they were able to stretch out into the new soil.

Since my soil mixture is partially an inert medium(growstones) and I have a mixture of 25% grow stones and 75% happy frog in the one pot and a near 50/50 blend in the other, they are very airy. Because of the airiness they also dry faster. This can be good but requires closer attention to the plants.

They already consumed the water from the medium from the partial watering after transplant and were ready for more so I gave them a dose of Fox Farms Grow big at 50%-75% concentration of the recommended dose(roughly 1.5-2 tsp's/gallon or something along those lines) and I am mixing it with distilled water. I also have been misting them periodically to avoid dehydration from the fan.

Great shoots coming in, can't wait to take some clones.

Cheers.

Well I couldn't stand looking at the poor plant trying to fight off the necrosis from the deficiency so i clipped any sick fan leaf parts. They look pretty mutilated but already are bushing out.

They definitely aren't burning even slightly, if anything the nute blast was waaaaaaayyyy too weak. Going to try for 2tsp per gallon next feeding. These should make great shoots for clones.

I will sex and take clones starting in another 1-2 weeks. In the meantime I got eager and I popped 6 Bogglegum seeds.

Heres I guess 1 month of veg after the calcium deficiency.

I know why you're here.... I know what you came to see.... Less talk more stalk.

mothers getting sun

This awkward FIM should make for some SUPERB clones. ;)

Any one want to place actually bets for which one is the louis?

DrPimpNugs

Member
Well They definitely are still calcium starved, it's because I have been using filtered water. But the soil is still wet from the feeding, so I can't do anything until the soil dries and then I will add molasses cal mg and water.

In the mean time the bog seeds are cracking one by one and I will throw them into a solution of Earth Juice Rainbow bloom 1/8th potency and earth juice catalyst 1/4-1/8th potency. This is because I read that seedlings enjoy the high phosphorous and dont want or need the N/K until they start developing leaves. The rainbow is like 2-12-2 or some shit. I will be doing a control group as well to see if this solution helps with rooting.

Cheers, happy friday!
