Hempy coco gone bad - Claw leaves

Hi,

So I've got this unknown strain that I picked up in the streets, it was growing near a pavement. Picked it up, managed to save most of it's roots but tore some.
I put it in a hempy bucket, 90% coco 10% perlite, using GH, Lucas then H3ad's formula.
Vegging under 4 x 35w CFL's.
Ph: 6ish.
Water (feed) every day.
First week it was stunned, then it got better and starting growing. But since about 10 days, the leaves got dry, started curling down.
Now it all looks weird.
At first I thought it was overfeeding, so flushed once. Didn't help.
Today, I flushed it thoroughly a second time. I'm thinking of a slat built-up.

What's your take on the issue?
(I got 3 other bag seeds in the exact same conditions: hempy, coco, ph, Gh, H3ad, CFL, feed daily... and doing ok).
Thanks!

hi
looks like its sativa dom so its maybe a bit more fussy on nutrients, also if your using cfl lighting i think you should run a lower ec.

on my first hempy/coco run .. had 2 of my plants do the same.. (pineapple punch).. they were overwatered .. I backed it off on those 2 and they are recovering... im no pro.. and this is my 1st.. but it looks exactly like mine.. let it dry out a little.. imo if im right which i may not be. the affected growth will dry up and die off but keep an eye on newer growth to see if it starts responding if you dry it out.. i even transplanted out of old coco to new to acc. the drying process.
this is my 1st run.. one thing im learning is you can over water in coco but mostly in the seedling and small plant veg stage..

Hi,

Thanks all for you answers.
Troll King, "Coco sucks for Hempy": lol. Really, no.
nukklehead: The plant was already at the 3rd set of leaves when I unearthed it, but what I did do was flush it for 3 days, just ph'ed water during that time, to get rid of all the salts & whatever was in the res.

Today, I think it's doing better, but still not great. I just gave it a 1/2 dose feed (I'm at 6 / 9ml per gal). I'll follow up on how this will make her react.
Here's how she's doing:

Thanks,

Coco sucks for Hempy, same thing for perlite. put the coco in normal pots with good drain holes instead.

It's posts like this that make me miss the "not helpful" button. Here is a person who is completely clueless dispensing advice.

Thanks,

Clawing means overwatered, but since you can't over water good coco, I have to guess that your drain hole is possibly plugged up with perlite, one reason why chunky perlite is preferred. Make the drain hole larger if it is plugged with small pieces of perlite. When you ripped off some of the roots, the root system became smaller and is possibly being overwhelmed with water. If the root system was fully developed, this would not happen, except with coco that had been re-used too often.

Keep your feed at 1/2 dose a few days longer.

Lower your ph, try it for a couple days, say 5.4 - 5.6?

I'm having same issues, but my ambient temps are near 60F.
After it gets warmer I will get a better idea.

Good find, I'm hoping you can salvage her!

Why water and feed everyday in the hempy? Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

The reservoir provides food/water for the plant. It only needs to be topped off every few days to replace used water and replenish oxygen.

I might run some low EC nutrient solution through it until you get runoff through the hole. Then wait a few days and note any changes. Water/feed when the reservoir is low. You need to get a feel for this. Either use the weight of the container or slightly tip it and see if water runs out of the hole.

I have grown several plants in coco hempys and it is one of the easiest methods I have used. I will either put "birds nest" coco strands or clay rocks at the bottom but I dont think it would be detrimental to use straight coco.

Barraka how high is the bucket filled with coco? The bottom portion of a coco hempy bucket (if not most of the container) is going to be too moist immediately after being watered to runoff, and stay that way until some water either evaporates out of the pot or is taken up by the plant. Saying that good coco cannot be overwatered is just a myth and not helpful here. Read about perched water tables in potted plants.

Thanks for your input, RetroGrow. Actually you were right, when I decided to flush it a second time, I realized that the runoff flow was pretty weak. Using a srewdriver, I poked a bit through the hole and had a much better flow. I check it regularly now.

Dropped Cat: That pretty much what I'm doing, I'm leaving the feeds at 1/2 strength, and I think I'm going to leave it as is until it looks better.

RonSmooth - You're probably right, I just thought I had a better chance of eliminating salt buildup by feeding till runoff. This might change in a near future.

Farmari - The bucket is filled at about 3/4 of the way. I guess I could have filled with a bit more coco / perlite.

Thanks all for the help.
