Capitalism is selling for the most profit, based on what the market will handle.
Price fixing is controlling the markets so that you can sell for whatever you want. And even accounting for all the regs and hoops and shit you now need to be a LP there is still no reason you need to charge more than $5 a gram.
Can someone explain why it should cost more for higher thc meds?
Does not cost the same to produce?
And good point Chief, it is the greedy LPs that ruined it for the rest of us. And my prior LP was one. When i started with him i was 15 of his 90 plant count limit. He told me to find someone else when he had the chance to take on a 150 plant patient.

JRace, the cost of producing something is often valued in man-hours that it takes to create a product.
If Bedrocan can produce a pound of irradiated, milled product in say 50 man hours while charging $5 a gram for it, why would I sell my whole, cured, organic medicine for the same amount, if I put 3-4 times the man-hours in producing the same weight of a much higher quality?
What about long flowering Sativas? If it takes 50% more electricity to produce, I certainly hope that patients wont find it strange when they will be the ones absorbing the extra manufacturing costs.
Obviously there are extra costs for quality lab tests, organic certification, hand trimming of the flowers, etc.
To compare MMJ to vehicles - there is a good reason why a Chev and a Rolls Royce have a different market, price tag and quality.

i like steve. one of the coolest "growers" i have ever met. he wasnt insecure, paranoid or nonsensical like 95% of us.
i am just saying it takes a hack to know a hack. since that has benn chimers favorite word the last year. when chimera stops thinking he is smartest and only guy to use weed as a seguay to further his financial and academic agendas may we will see eye to eye. i doubt the guy has done 1 hour of pro bono work in his life. and if her really thinks he has a masters in molcular biology, and wants to put people like that down it really defines the guys character.

Uhm, people didn't take the government to court to get more grams, or get more licenses per DG. After growers got busted and charged criminally, judges found the 1:1 ratio of DG: LTP holders unconstitutional, the courts found the no more than 3 licenses under a single roof unconstitutional, and forced that change on the government. The government tried to stymie this ruling by increasing the ratio of LTP holders : DGs from 1:1 to 2:1. Again the government tried to stymie the ruling of no more than 3 under one roof to 4 under one roof, the absolute minimum they could budge. Expect similar ass dragging to occur when harper and co. table the new prostitution laws this year.

The entire MMAR was designed to be a not for profit venture; the government has tried all along to keep it from becoming a commercial enterprise so people couldn't make money off of pot. The problem being, you can't have one group in society allowed to have access to a substance and another group not able to have access, only one thing will happen- the haves/cans will give/sell to the have-nots/cannots- it's not rocket science, it's a simple and obvious inevitable market force.
Other than removing the personal production, the MMPR is actually quite an intelligent method for tracking cannabis flowers and keeping them out of the black market in a prohibition era; it puts the onus of record keeping, stopping product diversion and quality control all on the LP, who must follow the rules or lose their license.
People fail to recognize that the government expects ~450,000 people to be registered with a LP under the MMPR by 2025. That's roughly 1.22% of the projected population for that year. Considering current conservative estimates are that 2% of canadians are regular (daily/weekly) cannabis users, the MMPR will provide cannabis to roughly 61% of cannabis using canadians by 2025. Cannabis use by that time will be engrained and accepted in society, and the continued prosecution against personal use canadians who chose to cultivate their own supply of cannabis will lead to changes in the system, and full out legalization of recreational use by all canadians if it is not already in place by that time.
Remember, it's legal to brew your own beer in your own house for your own consumption, but how many of you brew your own beer as opposed to picking it up at the beer store, provincial liquor authority, a depaneur, or a cold beer and wine??
Even those that do brew-their-own often buy specialty product from commercial brewers, and as such there will always be a commercial industry- same goes for cannabis. Look how many people buy rather than grow nowadays.
As far as I'm concerned, the government of Canada just set the ball rolling towards full on legalization. The MMPR is simply a transitionary phase towards a full out regulated, commercial cannabis market in Canada.
