Hey Bamboo, my friend that has done side by sides is the ones that have convinced me that seeds are the way to go, This same friend blessed me with enough seed stock to go forward and do my own seed lines that will be tested, selected, and bred out doors and in green houses..

You can take a longer vacation too when all you have to do is get your seeds out March 1 and pop them and you don't need supplemental lighting which is another bonus.

Yeah that looks like nice stuff a bunch of other goodies too.

I'm running some Mosca Seeds(train wreck, bubba kush and they sent me the grapefruit x swt#3 tester. I also got some bogglegum and big Buddha cheese to try out. I really wanted to try some of Ganja Rebel seeds but can't find any and he hasn't updated any info if they're coming this year. What strains do you have Organic? I really wanted to try the double Sour og but not this year I guess.

Three posts, must be important, lol. JP

I have literally thousands of seeds, but from GRS I have:

Sour Diesel f2
(og x SD) x Durban
ECSD x (og x chemdog)
DSD x (OGxCD)
Double Strawberry Diesel f2's
ECSD x double straw diesel
Double straw diesel f2's Strawberry dominant pheno
5g's Red f2

I also have a clone of 5g's red that I have searched through 3 packs of seeds and kept the best keeper. The keeper reminds me a lot of Romulan, very vigorous, same look and smell and the yields are well above average. I have also kept a 5gYellow clone, but I have yet to test it indoors and I only selected from one pack of seeds. Not sure I would call it a keeper yet.

Hey Bamboo, my friend that has done side by sides is the ones that have convinced me that seeds are the way to go.

Good Information and thanks. With seeds the argument arises of which is the best way to sex them. Grow them out, put them into flower mode, identify, then revert to veg. Seems like a lot of stress there. Or pop them, take a clone when you can, and put the clone into flower, identify the girls, then throw the clones away.

Any advice on that. I have done both. Thanks.

My plan is to pop them on march 1 so when they're showing sex by when I want to plant them outside in mid to late May when it stops freezing but you know how plans are.

We are popping seeds this week, gonna get them sexed by SC Labs in april, then they go outside in May

clones for blackbox, seeds for full sun. for us.

I like seeds as well, much more vigorous. However, if you use a pollen chucker instead of a breeder you could get some hermi's, which ruins crops. (thanks REZ!!!) As for growing out male/females, I like to veg the plants up to a 7gal pot, by then they are showing sex. Once they show sex put them in there final pots. Any bigger than 7 gal pots you will have trouble with the transplant, and even with 7 gal, I have to take the 7gal pot off on top of a ladder so the top isn't hitting the ground. Some plants sex fast (c-99, sour D) and are showing by the time I have the plants in 3 gal pots. Strains like ogxchem hybrids seem to take forever to sex. With those genetics it might be better to take a clone and flower the clone out like you said. Last year I popped my seeds around April 1st and some didn't show sex until late May. Killed my yield on those plants, if I had got them in the ground early May I could have had much bigger plants.

If u pop them now they'll show sex on their own
we r planning to keep them under 18/6 light inside until may so idk how they will show sex? didn't happen last year.
Also i have a friend at SC Labs so it isnt an issue getting the lab work done.

just picked up a bunch of "Royal Truth OG" beans, i think we may get a few other strains too

I ran only reg seeds my first two years because I didn't have any connections. The vigor is definitely a pro. Having a large variety showing sex and finishing at different times was a con for me. When different plants are coming down in 1-3 day intervals the drying situation can get unorganized but it would be more than doable with a decent sized crew. Since I don't usually hire many people I like to run 3-5 varieties from clone and have harvests at 1 week intervals.

Some seed varieties I enjoyed:
DNA's Chocolope- great yield and very uniform plants, 4 phenos all looked the same, reg seeds aren't available anymore
Dynasty's Mt Hood Huckleberry- decent sized bush, afghan type structure, amazing sweet fruit smell with dense flowers

Out of 15 or so varieties I've tried those 2 stood out. I've got Ganja Rebel's OG Chem X OG Sour D, Mr Nice X OG Chem, Sunshine Daydream, Lee Roy all sexed and reverting to veg so I can make clones for a light dep. Theres gonna be grease in these packs and with smaller plants my drying room won't get confusing. All full season plants will be a cat piss hybrid called odyssey. Might be the fastest finishing plant I've ever seen.

Well, I think that the labs thing is the way to go and the wave of the future. What is SC charging nowdays, about $20 a pop and how fast are they getting the results back?

You just added to the cumulative stress those plants will experience in their lifetime and knocked down their genetic potential a wee bit.

Was gonna say I thought SC Labs was offering that service.

$20 per tissue sample was the last price i heard. the only person I know who got their seeds sexed by SC Labs said they got the results the same day i believe. but they were also the first ones to utilize the lab in this way so i'm not sure if there is still such a quick turnaround. i can ask my friend who works there, although i'm sure anyone can call in and inquire at the lab

Cool, I use 16 hours so it's a bit easier to transition when I did clones I planned to use the same veg schedule best of luck :tiphat:

hey schrews where did you find those royal truth beans, is that from emerald mountain collective? ive been trying to find those guys beans for the last few months with no luck, they have an email but zero responses. anyways i grew out their royal pure and it was some serious chronic, perfect lemon minty OG taste but yielded way better than any OG kush clone, wish i kept a cut thats why im looking for more packs!

i popped a bunch of skywalker alien fems last week for my homies light dep to see how they do, hoping for that nice vigour and a somewhat uniform monocrop of OG hybrids. gonna start popping a bunch of other things shortly here as well..gonna run some of ganja rebel and a few of my own crosses.

Growing from seed is awesome

If you dont have a nice gh, you can build a cheap hoop with a mr heater and your set for the spring. No need to have anything indoors ever imo. I will say with seed that labeling is crucial (obviously)

On sexing...I find most seed shows sex by the time it should. Im surprised a lot of growers ive met that are somewhat new to outdoor dont know about preflowers, and how the plants show sex naturally if you allow them the time and space in veg. Sometimes they take a while, but thats just an easy excuse to build another patch ;) or hook up your friends and neighbors. Thats one of the best parts of the spring is searching for stellar ladies.

Happy planning.

glad to hear we scored... My partner picked up those seeds somewhere in the bay area, i'll make sure to ask him where exactly.

Just wanted to add one more detail about seeds vs clones. I think seeds have all the vigor and health but clones give a mono crop. Not only is that easier to deal with while growing, but getting rid of your final product is easier. For example, I only grow 12 plants and if I have 12 different pheno types of different strains then I will end up with 2-3 lbs of 12 different kinds of herb. As oppose to 30lbs of lets say, Cherry Pie.

Growing from properly selected seeds will have amazing vigor. However it's strain dependent. One poor breeding selection can create slow growing unhealthy plants.

Seed plants can result in bigger yields but a less efficient fall harvest than clones with all the extra labeling involved, etc.

The smart grower chooses clones. The grower who loves the excitement of cannabis grows seeds. I grow both. Been making lots of progress on getting some seed lines more consistent with less variation.

Hope everyone's enjoying their winter, may your tanks fill with water and your plants grow big and beautiful.

Peace
