Anyone else starting to sh*t a brick about this drought and now State of Emergency? I don't know about you, but I sure am. Am planning an OD grow for the summer of '14 after far too long of a hiatus and I'll be damned if we aren't having the driest year on record since what, '76?? Just my luck lol.

What are YOU planning to do about the drought? I for one plan to continue to prepare for outdoor season, with an emphasis on water retention thru polymers, mulch, etc etc.

What's your thoughts on the matter?

most of you Northerners should be concerned with fires if anything .... kind of like the one in my area going on right now its 84 down here record temps it doesn't rain down here much anyways desert so its kinda normal for me I have some outdoor out right now that is getting ash rained on it and this smoke haze is lovely, its always hot down here in the summer I hope im wrong but it has that feel of a Really really hot summer I forget what year it was but some years back it was Africa hot down her in so cal ... west Texas hot could be one of those years.

interesting that we don't panic until some politician tells us we should!

Now I wouldn't say Jerry made me panic buddy! The complete and utter lack of any measurable rainfall in my area is what's been making me nervous..Anytime there's scarcity of any resource in this state, it's stakeholders. ratepayers and taxpayers who get the short end.

THAT'S my motivation, not some Democrap or Repube douch canoe lol! I can just see the rate increases on the horizon. Or Worse yet, rationing thru exorbitant rates or threat of fines, jail, etc.

I just wanna make sure I'm prepared for any contingencies that may arise. :tiphat:

Yeah, I'd agree with ya on the fire issue. Have been and will continue to have the perimeter of my property kept weed and brush free to lower the fire risk. WOW. Outdoor still pumpin in January? Lol only in Socal haha. Guess the song is true "It never rains in Southern California"

Norcal, I live in Orangevale and get 100% of my water from Folsom Lake which looks pretty pathetic right now. I think it's a good idea to start planning for worst case scenarios. I'm gonna say that higher water and electricity rates are coming soon. There will also be water rationing and restrictions on outdoor landscape watering.

If people are caught by the water district watering non-edible plants there could be fines. Cannabis could be considered an edible plant but... I'd say using a little more compost and mulch and less perlite/pumice in the soil mixes would be a good start. Not a big fan of polymer crystals but to each his own. Alright, it's about time for the daily rain dance, I'm out.

Hopefully we can get some moisture soon.

With no rain its gonna be dry..deliveries last year were already nearly twice what they were in 2012. Good water/rain retention should be utilized heavily imo, as long as we get enough to fill those..

yes the drought is gonna screw any plans I had on outdoor. maybe if I find a spot in the sierras near a remote lake or stream. the snow load here is shit this year its pathetic. gonna be a hot dry year. anyone depending on water from lake kaweah is screwed, also gonna cause electric rates to go up as they cant generate as much juice from the water

The reservoirs around where im at are the lowest i've ever seen them. There's barely in snow up in tahoe and over the 80 pass as well. Every year im worried about fire. My well is huge and deep so im not too worried about water. There's lots of time left for rain though. I remember three or four years ago it dumped all of may and into june here like it was fall/ winter. Don't freak out yet.

eating dinner tonight all the tables had a little notes that said 'water by request only for conservation'

the fact that we have not been over our supposed 'annual rain fall' in over 5 years was always a concern, the fact that somebody in gov just now got around to saying 'ya i guess it is bad' is laughable at the fact that we have always been concerned.

the time to panic was in 2003...

So, what will water regulations ultimately mean for said individuals beyond just source of water being a question?

Are the people going to be shutting down the outsiders with new regulation..?

Mt. Shasta has almost NO snow on it now and is looking worse than any summer i've seen. Retaining water and getting another tank should be happening now.I see the well drilling rigs are deepening people's ag wells and many of my fellow farmers have had to drop their pumps and get creative. Mulching and having grass and clovers growing all throughout the spot should help hold h20 in the soil.

Lol having grass and clover growing will use more water. Be careful with clover, spider mites love it.

I'm considering reusing the gray water from my washing machine. My buddy has a real simple system that lets him send laundry water out a pipe into a drain system around his fruit trees. I'm going to have the water pumped into a 55 gallon barrel from the washer and then when needed I'll pump it out of the barrel to my plants or into another storage barrel. Should cut down on some water usage. I also wanted to mention that you can wrap your fabric pots with burlap or another fabric to hold in water and to insulate the pots. It rained a little today but it was a teaser. Let's keep dancing...

Forgot to mention that if you use your laundry water you should only use natural detergents and no chlorine bleach. And yes your plants may smell like your socks but that's the way it goes when water is in tight supply.

Numerous 2500 gal tanks as they are the most reliable, a small pond, and water pillow tanks are nice if you got the space. 46 mil, roughly 25x40, holds 28k gallons. Not much can fuck it up other than unlevel ground as I learned. Easy to patch as well. They make for a nice water bed. :smoke:

About 3k for a 20k gallon model. http://www.watertank1.com/
