I don't want those clowns increasing the debt a single penny. How immoral is it of the USA to hand 17+ trillion dollars in obligations to future generations?

:joint:

Increasing the debt limit is to pay for the things the government has already bought. Its a big deal and will probably destroy global economic markets if we even get close to the deadline and threaten not to pay.

Do you want your country to have shitty credit? This will be the end of the USA as the economic center of the world and every asset you own will be significantly devalued.

Other countries have a procedure in place if they default on their treasury notes, we don't because no one as ever thought that people would be stupid enough to let that happen.
If you're worried about the debt, think about what our debt would look like if we HAD TO BORROW MONEY (treasury notes) AT A SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER RATE!
Edit: And yes its true the deficit has actually been cut in half under Obama. The deficit is the difference between the money Government takes in, called receipts, and what the Government spends, called outlays, each year.
There was a surplus under Clinton.

Im diversifying my portfolio with this upcoming economic uncertainty. Took a short position in the mini DOW, US Dollar, and Canadian dollar futures last week. Went long in the Japanese Yen, EURO, British Pound futures. Also have a few options straddles that will likely hit their strike price once this debt limit deadline approaches.

US Government securities are the ONLY ones in the world ALLOWED to be markets as RISK FREE!!

I want the country I was born in to stand up and do the right thing. This is the country I was born in but this is not my government..

As Gramps pointed out the deficits have been growing EVEN under Clinton. You are correct that the spending and borrowing has slowed a little, but it doesn't change the fact that UNFUNDED liabilities have grown much more than the pretend reduction in deficit.

There is 17T on the books and 60+T of unfunded liabilities. I don't want my or other future generations to be slaves to this problem.

I'd rather we come clean, reset, and handle the problems over the next ten years.

That will require HUGE sacrifices starting NOW. Let them selectively default on treasuries OWNED / OWED to the Federal Retirement System, Federal Reserve, and Social Security Trust Fund. Why the fuck shouldn't government and government employees feel the pain first?

This isn't a republican or democrat problem. They are both morons. The US Government has been quoted saying it can't account for TRILLIONS of dollars!!

It would be more disturbing if I wasnt so worried about all the pus (infection discharge) that is common in all cows milk at the store that I read about while eating a bowl of cereal this morning and the FDA seemingly thinks this is information I don't need to know.

You won't find me cheering red or blue. I don't want the FDA or most of the government ESPECIALLY if it means my sons will wear chains. The clowns that can't account for trillions of dollars need to be ridden out of town on a rail.

I don't mean to interrupt, but I just came across this thread and decided to read a little bit of it. I'm kind of intrigued. I was wondering if anyone could recommend how to get started trading in stocks? I would like to start with small investments, nothing too risky, just to see if this is something I could stand doing...

Any advice?

Generally buy what products you and your friends buy & like if you want to trade stocks.

As for now like I've been recommended Index futures can have a nice bounce if there is a resolution in the next week. WAY more upside this week as much of the low has been priced in. If my close stops got me out I'd be back in again on the next close at least for the next week. After that the downside potential will be extended and I'd be on sidelines. This is where you fine tune your trading parameters. The word for the week is upside potential.

Are you guys who actively trade using a stock broker company of sorts to do all this stuff for you? Or are you using an online ameritrade type of website? What are the logistics to getting started?

Online brokerages with low fees sound like the direction you want to go. I am not current on the best of the best out there, put together a few K and open an account somewhere. Try their software and executions and if your not happy transfer you're account to a new firm.

Other countries have a procedure in place if they default on their treasury notes, we don't because no one as ever thought that people would be stupid enough to let that happen.
What is this "procedure" that other countries have that we supposedly don't have lol?

There is only one procedure for bond defaults. Defaulting on your bonds means you are bankrupt which means bond holders are going to take a haircut. Obligations do not get met. That's the procedure and it's the same for everyone. Bankrupt is bankrupt and default is a default.

Maybe you are talking about the bailouts in Europe? Like when Greece defaulted and then took on more debt once creditors took the haircut and then...... they defaulted again and it looks like they are going to need another bailout soon. They are stuck in a rolling default as their economy collapses.

America is so broke that we have to self finance our debt through our own printing press. We have already started the process of defaulting.

You are right about one thing. We were stupid to let it get this far, but through 60 years of perpetually fighting wars of empire, expanding the entitlement state, and purposely dumbing down the population we are now a financially and morally bankrupt empire.

The whole world knows it except the typically clueless American population. "We're exceptional" we say. "We can never default." Well never is a very long time and no one has made it there yet.

US adults are dumber than the average human New York Post
WASHINGTON — It’s long been known that America’s school kids haven’t measured well compared with international peers. Now, there’s a new twist: Adults don’t either. In math, reading and problem-solving using technology – all skills considered critical for global competitiveness and economic strength – American adults scored below the international average on a global test, according to results released Tuesday.

Answer: Texas school books. Those people are just like the Taliban, pushing religious fairy tales instead of actual science. If it's not religious it's also still very inaccurate and that has been shown for decades. Besides science, their history info is an inaccurate joke too.

When the Arabs had the brightest minds - they even invented the current numeric system - once they left science and facts for religious dogma it was downhill from there. Nothing good seems to happen with Texas and school books - look at the Texas school book depository where Oswald assassinated President Kennedy from...

I still believe those dumbasses are slowly dying off. Yes some of it is still being passed on to the younger generation but they're outnumbered and losing ground. It's like 10% or so per decade. I'm supposed to respect all religions, but if they are stepping on everyone else's toes to the point of affecting everyone else's quality of life and it's fact they are just bsing, well then the gloves are off...

Thinking of getting long here, gonna pop really nice if they fix this shit this week. I am afraid it will run into next week though, maybe the whole month.

Religions offer good and bad, have no use for them personally but do admit some folks gain from being involved with them. Trouble is most of the religious think God calls them to control others choices for them. Pot, sex, drinking, porno, and choosing to be free of their churches and rules. All the while making money tax free....

At least we do not live in a Islamic controlled country as of yet, truly hell on earth imo.

Other advanced countries have known for decades that Americans on average are not very schooled in comparison to them. We have been a joke to them for a long time. Fat, dumb and proud of our heritage, while offering nothing as individuals that is even on par with them. The recent immigrants from South America seem more proud of the countries they left than where they are now. Having a immigration system that rewards illegals over legals might have something to do with that. We do work longer hours than a lot of Europeans, whatever that means.

Not America bashing and I do not think Europe or Japan or whatever are superior to the US. Just aware of some things that are not that great here.

Maybe this week like you said something will pop. Give it another whole week, lots of upside potential. Not guaranteed but odds on your side. After that it's the sidelines, if no resolution still... :tumbleweed:

Answer: Texas school books.
This is a national problem. The study was a national study. The Texas curriculum is a small part of a much larger problem. Our national education/indoctrination system is a joke. The more the federal government funds and controls it the worse it has gotten over the decades.
Not America bashing and I do not think Europe or Japan or whatever are superior to the US. Just aware of some things that are not that great here.
Educational wise they are clearly superior. French IB program and English A Levels are vastly superior to an American HS diploma. Top tier college's overseas and even in the US acknowledge this.

I had the pleasure of being educated in the states and overseas graduating with an IB diploma. From first hand knowledge Americans, in general, have a very difficult time transferring from the states to an international school because they are so far behind and lack critical thinking skills which are emphasized in international education programs. The Dept of Education should be renamed the Dept of Regurgitation because that's all we teach over here.

Foreigners are much more aware of America's place in the world than American's are. American's are very insular and are many times disliked because of the cultural arrogance that our propaganda machine creates.

This is a broad stroke comparison. There are always exceptions, but this is the rule not the exception.

US CDS are definitely popping. Even when they fix this shit at the last minute the damage to our creditability has been done....again......

Janet "Print MOAR" Yellen is taking Bernanke's place soon which the markets will love her. Hopefully she'll blow the FED balance sheet up double what that puss Bernanke did. Print on.
