How about the "Rift" allows the President to spin this anyway he wishes. This is a hugely popular issue, especially with the UNLIKELY to vote. If he can swing the disenfranchised by a flop on this issue (al la gay marriage) he will be even cooler than ever, and carry the 2014 elections for a lot of his friends

Of course there's a rift between the DEA & Obama. OTOH, only one of them is the boss, and it's not Leonhart.

for the last 30 years the only people who've been prosecuted for drugs crimes were blacks and south American people with a few interspersed whites. but when I sold dope most of my customers were white. you guys are just waking up to what the DEA always is, an arm of the federal government waging a race war by locking people of color in jails. it never was to protect the whole public, but protecting a white electorate base.

So sad that the U.S. government is FULL of ancient relics like this woman that grew up thinking the plant is evil, and anyone associated with it should be in prison. And then rose to power and actually put countless people in prison for it. I wonder how she sleeps at night.

That's interesting, I've never heard that it was on anything besides hemp paper. My search turns up that it is actually on parchment, not vellum. Makes sense, having used a bunch of vellum years ago doing architectural drafting, it is extremely fragile and susceptible to damage.

I'm no paper expert, but vellum typically refers to a parchment made from animal (calf) skin. Which is why it was used over the hemp they used on the drafts, because it lasts much longer. Many old documents are on what they called "vellum" at the time. In today's world there could be very well be different types of vellum, I have no idea.

Three years from today, opinions like Leonhart's will likely be inconsequential. That's if Obama & Holder keep playing it the way they are now, letting legalization unfold at the state level. Authoritarians will attempt to move it up to the national level where they feel they have a better chance of retaining prohibition. Not all states are ready for MMJ, let alone legalization. With the DEA held at bay, we can move right around that, establish thriving legal taxed & regulated markets in several states. From there, going back is impossible.

That's because legalization is sound policy. Now that we are legal in Colorado & Washington, we have the opportunity to prove that just by being ourselves, playing the game by some easy rules.

Here in Colorado, it's turning into a non-newsworthy event, other than the cheerleading for canna-capitalists. On the consumer side of it, we had giant lines for days, and nothing went wrong, nothing bad happened for authoritarians to focus on, other than a highly suspect story about a little girl who found a MJ edible. As it calms down, I want it to stay that way, an ubiquitous non-event, until they start telling us about the tax revenue, and beyond. This needs to be as pleasant an experience as possible for everybody, one of those deals where the straights get to see us all as nice people, you know?

Three years from now, I want the public to wonder why cannabis wasn't legal a long time ago.

Polling for MMJ is 50%+ everywhere that it counts. Anecdotally, there are repeated local H-town news stories about families with children that have catastrophic epilepsy going to CO for the CBD high strains. Local CBS News 11.

It's all just a matter of time now. Eventually it's going to snowball and the Fed's will break.

He sure didn't say anything about getting MJ federally rescheduled. But, O & Crony's, Inc. know that full federal legalization is just a matter of time. The article that I read referred to the calf skin as parchment, but further checking shows that all animal skins used as paper are parchment and vellum is a specific parchment made from calfskin . The current (or at least the last 100 years or so) usage of vellum refers to a very thin, very high quality paper similar to onionskin that was used as the original to make blueprints. It is thin enough that it could be placed over the top of the original drawing, which was made on a much tougher piece of paper that could withstand erasing and other rough handling, and then the final drawing would transferred to the vellum. This was then placed over the photo paper and the drawing was transferred to it during the blueprinting process.

Ive personally known 20 of my childhoods friends whove spent atleast 7 years in FEDERAL prison... Before I came to Cali I watched a friend of mine receive 7 years to Fed time for crack dealing..

The president is cutting the legs out from under every parent and schoolteacher and clergyman across the country who is trying to steer kids away from illegal drugs. Our “coolest president” ever has made drug education into a punch line.

Oh no, the truth might get out. Kids might find out their parents, teachers, and preachers are full of shit when it comes to marijuana. "Drug education" might be recognized as the bullshit propaganda it is.

I disagree with Obama on a lot of things. Most things, really. I don't expect it, but he'd have my respect for life if he actually did something to end the prohibition laws. He has the power to stop enforcing the federal laws tomorrow if he wanted to.
