Buy a Closed System or Hire Someone

This question goes out mostly to those who live in the Bay Area or Colorado.

I'm debating whether it would be better to find someone to run my trim for me or buy a closed loop system.

I would rather hire someone to run my trim(to avoid the time). Either for a fee or a percentage. So my first question is what are people seeing as far as the split?

I'm also interested in whether or not anyone has had any safety issues with their closed loop systems? Which is the system that would be most recommended? I'll be processing about 20-30 lbs of fine trim and small buds a year.

Extracts have definitely been growing in popularity and I only see them continuing to increase in popularity. So I think the quality will only continue to improve.

I might just turn my trim into edibles, and buy BHO when I want it.

Good question. Similar boat as I'm in. Which extractor indeed? BHOgart tamisium and terpenator all seem to work and be similar in price depending on model

Half of the yield to hire someone. 4 to 5 grand all said and done for an extractor and everything to go with it[that will suit your needs]

You should talk to grey wolf, his terpenator design seems the best choice to me.

Sort of feeling the same way you are. Wanting CO-2 extraction, as opposed to other choices of solvents. There is a collective in Pasadena, CA waiting for an Eden Labs extraction machine. They haven't a clue of what they'll require for spinning hay to oil, though.

I've been waiting awhile for that 'delivery' though. When they get the machine and I find out, I'll post it.

That is a legit question and I am sure many are starting to think the same way, as Abja. My desire is for a purer product in concentrates, as i plan to ingest a ton of it, soon.

I joined, hoping to talk to gray wolf. How much is a filled 5 gallon n-butane container, over 99% pure, and what would be cover story? Would you need a chemical engineer buying it? Also, can vaporizer remains be run?

Also, what would vacuum setup cost, to get remains, and highest temp during drying? I have shot for 150F for experiments with cans.

Prices from Airgas vary considerably. We bought a LP-5 of n-Butane from them in Redding for $262, after the local Airgas quoted us $401.74.

Locally, they require a business license and a storefront.

Yes, vaporizer remains can be run.

You can go the edibles route at very low cost-

I haven't tried it, but it looks like it can scale up easily.

I have no idea as to the other extraction routes.

453.59237 grams per pound

'300ml' cans of butane are about 165g on average

24 pounds times 453.59 grams per pound equals 10,886.16 grams per LP-5 tank

10,886.16 grams per LP-5 tank divided by 165 grams per can of butane equals 65.97 cans of butane to fill a LP-5 tank

I'm seeing Neon 5X at about $38 per case with free shipping, so...

65.97 cans times $3.17 per can equals about $209 to fill up an LP-5 tank with regular canned butane

For canned n-butane I paid $71 plus $8.50 shipping for a case of Capital N-butane, and $57 with free shipping for a case of Puretane from puretanewholesale.com

I've read the threads and was leaning towards Grew Wolf's Terpenator. For me it seems like it would pay for itself after 3 runs at the most.

My main issue is that I want the quality to be high. If I can find someone who produces a consistent high quality product, I have no problem paying them. Most of the people that I know are too busy to run something for someone else.

I see a market for a business which produces extracts for other people for a fee. I would think Colorado would already have something like this.

A percentage of the pull does not seem equitable. If you have high quality trim they get more. If it's low quality then they get less. It really should be an hourly fee, like renting time on a machine.

My other main issue is the legality. I don't want an extra charge for producing extracts.

dude your payin half because of the enormous risk invovled in runnin the material both physical an legal.
it wont be you goin to prison if the extractor gets caught in the middle of a run.. you gonna share the jail time too? of course not.
your paying for risk factor more than time id say.

MKIII for the win, unless you really want to do triple digits. Hamma is right with 4-5K to get yourself really set to compete.

In Colorodo they have two "big" companies doing this. Top Shelf, which runs about 1 lb of material a day. The Pink House Labs runs about 10lbs a day. This info was from a fairly old High times so the amounts may have changed, but there is a market for it. If it wasn't illegal in California I would start my own Oil biz today.

No question that canned butane from over the pond is cheaper than Texas butane through the gas suppliers, especially after they tack on shipping. Sad, but true.

BTB thanks for the 453.6 conversion, because somehow I have been using 452.8 from memory all these years!

There isn't a master list for most things in the world.

Search for them, compare each for pros and cons.

Terpenator
BHOgart
Tamisium
Redbeard extractors

Add WolfWurx, who filed for incorporation in Oregon, and who offers engineering program management services, which ranges from facilites to custom equipment, such as building the more elaborate Terpenators, using industrial sources they've arranged, both locally and in China.

So that it is clear that there is a spamming conflict, WolfWurx CEO is my son and I support his new corporation, so I can offer no more details without violating TOU.

Skunk Pharm Research has always been and currently is for fun, but WolfWurx is a business intended to produce a profit.

I of course think the Terpenator is supreme, or I would simply design something else, so also take my input with a grain of salt.

Both the Mk IV and Mk V beta manual prototypes are getting raves from their new owners, and the latest prototypes from China, incorporates the input from those happy campers.

Especially the latest ones that alternate flooding from both directions, recover the columns separately from the lower tank, and have custom made manifolds eliminating many of the threaded connection leak points.

The Mk VI is now on the drawing board, and alternates between six random sized columns and four collection pots, in both manual and automated configuration. The first two are already sold and it is hard to tell where beta testing in the field will lead the design of the Mk VII.

I like to think that Terpenator has always been at the front of the pack in design, and now it will be a commercial product. I am also confident, that as before, others will copy its good points and offer what they perceive to be a better one and so the wheels of innovation turn............ Hee, hee, hee.........................

I am putting my pennies away to buy a terp.

Gray Wolf, I have a question.

Considering I am in New York, will they even ship this to me from Oregon? That is once they are commercially available.
