Peat moss vs coco choir - expecting the difference

Hello all

I spent almost 2 years growing in sunshine mix 4 which you all know is a fancy name for a bag of peat moss.
I've always stuck around 6.0 ph range with it and rarely had a problem associated with it.

3 weeks ago a friend got an increadable deal on bags of Tupur coco choir. (I listed details of it in the post named "question about Tupur soilless mix" here on this site)

Now, my ladies are about 4 weeks old and don't display any noticeable issues in it. I intend to keep my ph the same but not sure what else I need to be expecting after making a switch.
The coco felt waaaay much softer and gentler then peat moss.

Can you guys speculate or state what can be expected after making a switch.
Thank you

Watch out for bugs, had bad luck with tuper and gnats, mites.. could have been the shop where it came from, but I doubt it cuz I've bought plenty of pro mix in same location with no problems.. that why I love peat vs. The others..oh, keep it a lil moist compared to the sunshine,,plants really fry up if u let the stuff get too dry, vs. Peat..

Thank you.
Allthough not sure how strong pur nucca will be.
The google overview just hints that coco is more PH stable.
This was not a planned switch. But I got 30 cubic feet free. Since I usually spend around $200 on sunshine, so the deciding didn't take long. And now, after transplanting I am doing a research :)

Coco reacts, in an electro-chemical way, a little differently with Calcium and Phosphorus than peat does. It also contains a little Potassium which is released during decomp of the coco over the grow. Most coco specific nutrient systems will feature less Potassium and a more Calcium than "standard" programs to accommodate the characteristics of the media a little better. I find that in flowering the typical nutrient programs, that feature lower levels of Ca and higher levels of K+Mag than in veg, is beneficial.

Cation rich systems like coco can be tricky if your system doesn't contain enough iron, or if your water/nutrients contain sodium. I find myself usually needing a little extra Magnesium to round out my nutrient programs, just a few ppm makes a difference and a little Epsom Salt will go a long way for many coco growers.

Stick to your guns and your traditional program and keep good notes to see what changes can be made for the next runs. Feel free to allow your pH to float between 5.6 and 6.0, Coco does a good job of self-buffering. Go light with any Phosphorus supplement at first and consider using an organic acid pH down (citric or fulvic) in place of traditional Phosphoric acid based pH down products. Everyone I know who makes that switch is super happy with the effects.

Thank you snow crash. This is much helpfull. How much epsome salt do you add to 50 gal?
Otherwise I will just hope for the best, besides what I noticed is the reaction of my plants to the overall energy and environment of my newly built grow room. So far so good

Every gram of Epsom salt per gallon should get you about 25-28ppm of Magnesium (and a little sulfur too). While 25ppm doesn't sound like much, it could potentially double the amount of that element in the solution and dramatically impact your ratios to other cations like Calcium and Potassium. I tend to gravitate towards ~0.5g per gallon (or around 25 grams in 50 gallons) for a more modest Mg bump. Use a little less that 2 tablespoons of Epsom in the reservoir and this should be close enough to what most GH-Flora series growers are including.

This is more of a preventative, or dialing in, measure. If you're actively seeing a confirmed Mg deficiency in the plant using 1/8th teaspoon of Epsom salt into water, with a drop of surfactant (dish soap) and applying this solution as a foliar spray to the underside of the leafs at lights on will resolve the deficiency. It still requires you address the nutrient profile and/or buildup issue with the system but it can really save a grow from going necrotic.

But I starting to learn to ignore nonsense. So, keep it coming. At this point I won't be wasting time replying to any of this homie false slap bulshit. Oh, how brave we are over the internet.
