i bought dunks yesterday and will water with it tonight i have read there is no issues using it alongside azamax. if i use a 1/4 dunk per 5 gallons of h2o will it get me the desired effect? so sick of these lilbastards

Spinosad only works on the adults from my experience. Azamax or azatrol full dip worked best. Make sure you dip the planter and leaves and stems as the thrips lay eggs inside the leaves protecting the larve from sprays. That's why they come back. The dip had the results and wiped them out. You will loose many leaves is the only downside and make sure you are not into flower as it takes 30 days for the sestemic to work it's way out.

i thought the spinosad worked on the larvae as they emerge and feast the surface of the leaves is coated with the spinosad and the ingest a bit enough to kill them. adults from what i have read are the ones hanging out in the dirt. waiting to molt to the final stage of winged bastards and i have seen them fly they look like a spec of dust and they fly at the lights. inspected today and seen about 4 or 5 of the little suckers looked to be in the later stage of larvae more a brownish colour than the light yellow i have seen before. i squashed the few i seen. gonna give it about 3 or 4 days before doing anything else other than water with dunk water tonight. then if i still see em i will try another neem application... if i had one bottle of that spinosad it would probably last me years.

The trick to eliminating thrips is to knock down the population with a bug bomb killer like Doktor Doom (piperonyl butoxide w/ pyrithrin), but you can also use insecticidal soap/ trounce/endall. Some local guys here add concentrated Pyrithrin drops to beef up the mix a little. The key however is to kill the larvae which pupate in the soil; make sure all the leaf litter on the soil tops is removed, you can add some of the insecticide as a soil drench also it will help. If you then do a soil drench with beneficial nematodes, and remove all the dead leaf material/detritus from around the grow you can wipe them out pretty easily- like with all bug infestations it's just a matter of staying on top of the treatment for a couple of weeks and making sure the grow area is clean; ie remove all your dead leaf matter from around the grow, empty all garbage cans daily and keep the garbage outside away from the grow.

Hope that helps,

hope its OK if i pitch my thrip/soft bodied anthropod killer recipe:
1 quart clean water
1-3 cloves of garlic
1-3 orange peal
blend and strain. mist the plants completely,

I ordered A. Cucumeris predators for my thrips, then there was a 2 -3 month war. A. Cucumeris will work but you must release enough to take hold quickly, or you end up battling for months and months. I am thrips free, but seem to have picked up some pyrithrin resistant spider mites when I got some old clone strains back from a friend. I think I am going to try Spinosad on these fuckers this time, ebay will ship to Canada.

you shouldn't have any issues importing for your own use
just don't get caught reselling in Canada that would get you in trouble

awesome thanks frank! i am going to order the conserve sc, the guy at my local shop also said spinosad is systemic is that true? nothing i have read has said that. definitely not going to resell this is going to be my not so secret weapon. i can't believe no shops carry it considering how popular it is and it has been approved as an organic pesticide in the uk from what i read does it also have that status in canada? i know it is primarily used in the orchard industry.

Jons Plant Factory sells a thrip soak. As with most products, they won't tell you what it is, but it has worked for folks I know. Peace GS

Bayer Admire, 1 app, in resi = thrips and gnats are toast for good...stuff is $$$ tho ;)

merit 75wp as a root soak in early veg with a high nitrogen fert same effect less $
FWIW folks read labels and and rotate pesticides the last thing we need is sick growers/consumers or super bugs

there is some info on the net about spinosad use in tobacco production if this sort of stuff interests you

yes but it has to be the powdered version entrust according to my friend it is on the omri list and is used regularly on organic food crops. but definitely read the directions and the safety information. after doing so you might think twice about using it. i have calculated that the 80% spinosad i can get says for western flower thrips use at a concentration of 30 grams of powder to 1000 liters of water. thats actually 24 grams (aka 24 ml roughly for a volume measurement) of spinosad in 1000 liters which equals out to .024% spinosad by volume. the monterey stuff i have seen people get is .5% and it is in a solution of possible chemicals to increase shelf life etc? thats why you must use the powder for organic certified farms. and even mixed at the low concentrations of .024% approximately 1/20th the strength of the monterey. you must wear gloves respirator tyvec suit. and make sure to keep this stuff contained so after you use it the bottles and everything shouldn't be used for anything else. your tyvec suit and gloves etc can be reused but should be kept safely. it is supposedly quit safe but still the instructions say not to use within 30 days of harvest for food crops so not sure what that means for smokables. also a pain to get the dose right because of the 1000 liters part i dropped it to 3 grams per 100 liters or .03 grams per liter. a gram is supposedly .2 of a teaspoon. so i would take 1 tsp to do 15 liters of water roughly... and that would be at a .024% concentrate. also in the directions it says workers should not be allowed to work on the crop until 7 days after application... that being said im still going ahead with it i have all the PPE and those thrips are still there today little suckers! time to bring the hammer down on them.
