Snap Chat

Is snap Chat safe to send weed pics and videos on? I want to send some images to a friend in New York. I know Snap Chat used to be safe since the images/videos only exist for 10 seconds, but my gf just told me that Facebook bought the app and it's no longer safe. Does anyone know if this is true or not? And does anyone know of a safe way to send videos to someone digitally?

Thank you!

I was looking for a more app specific answer... I'm not stupid.

Snap chat is a smart phone app that deletes the image after 10 seconds. Supposedly it's deleted completely from existence.

I am looking for a way to safely communicate with a friend that's 2000 miles away, and this app seems like the ticket. (Text can be added to the image.) I am not using anything computer based for the reason you stated above. (Such as email or messaging, etc...)

I remember when Overgrow got shut down. I went into "internet" hiding for years because of that debacle. I figured it was a safe place to store all my images of grows and journals, etc. Had rep up the whazoo. But man when they got shut down it was a reality check for me. It doesn't matter how compliant and legal you think you are... the feds still don't like it. That's why I don't post many pics on here, and also why I am searching for a good way to communicate discreetly with a friend on the other side of the country.

They don't ask for how much time it was online when they store it, man! Your best bet would be to encrypt the files with the highest security algorithm (2048 bit & up) you can find, then send it to your friend. If you are not on their priority list, they will not take the time to decrypt it..

Ok apps I have no idea. Computer, you can get very strong encryption with free programs that would take agencies in the United States years to crack if they ever could crack it. I am from the USA but living in Europe. Photos are the least of your worries, considering the federal government monitors all electronic and voice communications. If they really wanted to get you, it wont come down to some photos. I know I couldn't answer what App is safe to transfer photos on, but i would see what google can tell you.

Thank you for the replies.... That helps a lot more.

So Snype, can you surmise what they are saying in that article? I read it but unfortunately the lingo is a little technical for me. It sounds like someone hacked Snap Chat and can now gain access to someone's phone number from their Snap Chat account. But does that mean that they can see the images?

Though we are just talking about cannabis photos here the below writing would make me
a little leery.

To defend your privacy in a time when the “Internet is forever,” Wickr has put together an adivsory board of security professionals to guide that fight for data control.

But in the midst of this, the company also redesigned its app today and took on funding from Gilman Louie, the founder of secretive CIA-run venture firm In-Q-Tel.

Louie is currently a partner at Alsop Louie Partners.

Or if backdoors to the operating systems were not available yet to those who need them. ;)

1. Facebook never bought snap chat.

2. nothing that connects to the internet is safe

3. even computers that have never connected to the internet are not safe

4. I would never trust the douche bag who runs snap chat.

5. Snap chat was hacked many times and there are hacks available to the public to save pics from snap chat. Also, some hackers released many millions of phone numbers along with their usernames of snap chat users not long ago so that should sum up everything you or anyone else reading this who wasn't 'in the know' did not know.

Not true. Pic file aren't "deleted" rather, your operating system is told to "forget" the location of said file from what I understand..So, files are still physically there, just hidden. To reiterate, Nothing put on the 'net is safe. Period.

You can hook a cord up to a computer and then open the snaps through your computer, thus having access to the file, thus being able to easily save any video that is sent.

I already looked it up before sending them myself that's how I know haha

If you aren't obfuscating your internet connection (TOR, offshore VPN, untraceable phone) everything you do can be monitored.

Posting on a mmj forum is just as risky as sending a weed pic through snapchat in my opinion. Everything is dangerous on the web....

true, it's more of a "safe in numbers" type deal.

They go after the big fishes first, as the small ones are mostly a waste of time/money. If I were to ever get serious in the illegal side I sure as hell wouldn't be posting it online haha
