I'm not craving nicotine at all this time for some reason, well maybe the first couple weeks.I've never gone this long since I was 15 and I just turned 53.Lot of damage already done

Because it's poison!

Nah, now you reverse some of that damage!

Took an open heart surgery ( a failed one at that ) on me and guarantees of additional heart and vascular slice and dice appointments to get me to stop. Haven't had a cigarette since 2005.

I started at 11 and ended at 50. Congratulations on not looking back! :tiphat:

I quit about 4 months ago after 30 years of smoking tobacco. I expected to crave nicotine , but as of today have not. I got lucky and had a smart doctor that helped me, she ask me not to try to quit when I raised the discussion. After a few questions she determined I had anxiety and depression. She treated those two issues for about 6 months, then ask me to try to put the smokes down then. And it worked, I'm smoke free and without cravings !
I have had several back surgeries the last 4 years, thus lots of MRI's of my spine, the MRI's also show smoke related lung damage, it don't look pretty, looks like I have been shot with buckshot. O Well, what's done, is done.

Floridian, congrats on staying quit!!

I quit smoking Newports after 18 years. Quit about 8 years ago. I figured, if I was gwan put smoke into my lungs, it would be smoke from something that makes me feel good & that I truly enjoy (cannabis).

I quit April 1 2013 so I am closing in on 10 months (Feb 1). I don't care who smokes around me. It doesn't bother me. I never smoked before I was 40. I smoked until I was 58. When I didn't smoke before 40 I never minded other people smoking. So I guess that helps now.

Also I never picked up the bad triggers for smoking. Things like smoking after a meal or first thing waking up or wake up during the night and smoke. I would be up several hours before I wanted a cigarette. Watching sports on TV, posting on a computer and driving in the car were my times to smoke.

All during March I stopped smoking while driving. That is how I started. Then in April I quit cold turkey.

if you're doing it to please others then that's the wrong reason, K+ for you though so as not to feed your insecurity :).

That is so right. It's not for anyone but yourself. Any other reasons are doomed to failure. I will be 8 years on the wagon (booze) this March. I didn't quit for anyone else or for their approval. I did it for myself. It's just a benefit that others like it as well.

The missus tried many times to quit cigs. When she was finally successful was when she truly wanted it for herself, not for any other reasons. I'm proud to say she has been quit for years. Quite a feat living with chimney man.

I smoked for 6 or 7 years one day I threw away my pack disgusted at the smell and taste especially when I had easy access to weed daily in Canada. Since then I maybe have smoked 5 or 6 times been at least 5 years since.

Sadly I still use tobacco somewhat slightly in my joints.

The trick to quitting cigarettes is to never smoke even one again.

Sounds silly but true. Just stop and never put another one in your mouth. Don't have those "this time only" thoughts or moments. Tell yourself when you have a craving how much you detest cigarrettes. Try to think of times when cigarrettes made you sick or nasty etc.. Try your best to re-program your orientation towards them. Then after a while, years, you will be like me and detest them. I wasn't always that way tho, mostly a 2 pack a day smoker for a good while. Now not.

You can do it too.

One way to stay quit it to congradulate yourself and really mean it.This is awkward for most anyone. Its no miniscule feat and I am a bad motherfucker in complete control of my own domain so to say

The thing to remember, at least for me, was that the edgy, anxious feeling of wanting one goes away whether you have one or not.[\I] Wait it out, distract yourself and the feeling passes. I used an ecig for a few months, but I found substituting cannabis and distracting myself the most helpful 'techniques' in quitting...whatever helps you quit!
Good luck!!

I smoked for years and I hated every minute of it. I actually liked the smoking part, but I hated the addiction, the expense, the health risks etc. I hated that it always felt like something I had to do.

Just woke up ... must smoke
Just ate dinner ... must smoke
Having a beer ... need to smoke
Walking into movie theater .... better smoke first
on and on

One day in the middle of the year I just woke up and had enough, bought some nicotine gum to get me through the first day and never had a cigarette since. It's been 3 years for me :woohoo:

I salute anyone who has quit or is trying to quit. I haven't smoked a cigarette in years, but I had to quit many times. I finally figured it out- every time I started smoking meant another time I had to quit, so I finally got sick of it all.

Cigarettes are everything people think pot is- dirty, nasty, addictive, negative, unhealthy. It really says something about us that we as a society prefer tobacco over cannabis.

If you beat the tobacco addiction, it's like a blow against the empire. You're really freeing yourself from a form of slavery, and loving yourself enough to live a better life than the one you're being sold.

Thank you
