i didnt want to hijack the thread about og being the most sought after strain but i did want to start a conversation about srtains people have gone crazy for or in other words trends of the most sought after strains...

to go way back the first big craze was for strains like panama red, jamacan red hair, Acapulco gold Thai and Thai sticks. this would be in the late 60's early 70's: potency and exotic. knocked peoples socks off compared too the more commercial mexican shwagg/ hemp taste

the haze craze.... sssc hazes, purple haze etc: extreme potency and unmistakable flavor. exotic and then well bred lines from cali

afghani/ hindu kush craze: potency and it being an indica started the indoor growing craze that lasts to this day.

skunk craze, super skunk, roadkill skunk (im still crazy about that one! : smell taste and potency

blueberyy had a bit off a craze during the late 90's and other berry tasting strains: flavor and potency... exotic

chemdawg/OG/SD craze: potency, flavor/smell, and medicinal benefits

purps everywhere... is it purple?

Cheese craze in uk aka UK "Skunk " craze: potency and flavor

and many other strains people have gone bonkers over all over the world. lets get a better list going and the reasons for the craze.

The most important craze was the marijuana craze started in the 60's , where a severely illicit substance was brought to the forefront in American society . The 60 "s generation was responsible for the craze , and marijuana's popularity , use and acceptance would not be anywhere near where it is today with out the 60's generation .

I think a strain named "craze" might be a hot seller. Has a meaning on a number of different levels - and - it rhymes with "haze," to boot.

good point mayan and gek. without those first people introducing the plant who knows when or if we would have it today. things would definatly be different! im truly thankful to those folks!

Strain crazes are just cycles. Hype and lack of availability can cause a craze (you want what you can't have), but eventually cuts get loose, or seeds become common and everyone gets in on the action. Eventually, something new comes along and the cycle starts all over. There was the Blues craze, and the Haze craze, and Chem/Sour craze, and the Kush craze and the G13 craze, etc., etc. If it's good, it will stick around, and what was once old will be new again.

the whole " craze " ... is just something someone makes up to sell .... beans or buds .....

the whole marijuana scene in north america is becoming a mirror of what USA stands for... captalism, and consumption!

marijuana prices are shit crazy in america... and many times the weed really isn´t ALL THAT ... to cost THAT MUCH....

Been growing since the early 70's when most of what you grew was the REALLY good bag seed you came across, I still have Colombian seed I've maintained from back then. Mid 70's the top line stuff seeds started showing up in High Times advertisement, got a few seeds now and then but they were damned expensive.

Nowadays everybody and their ugly brother-in-law are seed breeders. I mod at another forum and people are always talking about the latest 'cool' seed (GS Cookies...really?). I just keep chugging along with my old-fashioned ways.: IBL's and stabilized hybrids float my boat and I know what I'm getting. Oh yeah, get off my lawn you mangy kids. :scripture:

When's the ogre craze gonna stop? Seems like every day one gets just a bit more diluted...

Lets see them landraces released to the public.
They're the real gems if ya have the space to play.

Thai stick wasn't a craze. Thai stick was a phenomenon unique in my cannabis experience. I've seen nothing since to equal Thai sticks, but I did go crazy for panama red.

^^ I never tried Panama Red back when but the ACE PR is a lot like Oaxacan I had back in 79.

Have you tried the ACE version of PR? What was the high like of the old PR?
