BHO extractions of other herbs?

I know..this is a forum of "cannabis concentrates" but I'm posting here because you are the folks I want to ask.

Aside from BHO, has anyone reading this tried to concentrate oils from plants other than cannabis using the Butane solvent extraction method? I was wanting to try various aromatic herbs and concentrate them into maybe an absolute shatter type consistency but I'm not sure really which herbs have a oil based concentrate that would dissolve in butane. Today I bought .20 lb of lavender and was thinking of blasting that through my tube to see what happens. I know that a lot of aromatic herbs are often distilled or steeped in water (like lavender) so I'm not sure if that means it water soluable instead of oil. Anyway, what herbs could I blast into concentrate? Any input is welcome

All of the terpenes are aromatic hydrocarbons, that can be extracted with butane. I've done it with hops, and have seen it done with lavender and oregano, but haven't wanted to stink up my machines that I use for cannabis extract, so haven't done extensive experimentation.

Gonna make an MK III just for Hops ... trying to isolate terps via a cold trap, and introduce to my winterization process pre filtration. I'll post results :)

WoW! I wonder what BHO would be like with a bit of hops in it, I grow hops for my homebrew every season I get a nice variety.

Peace

Could you use a cold trap in conjunction with a liquid nitrogen coil condenser to condense the butane from a butane extraction, this would be using a good vacuum pump.

I hear some craft brewers are adding hops tea post fermentation immediately after harvest (aka not dried) I had a seasonal IPA this fall and it was scrumptious. Very aromatic with a signature hoppiness but less bitter than most hoppy ales. A hop extract full of terpenes may be a great way to create that freshiness any time of the year. Just a thought...

I just used the extractor on some freeze dried bananas and strawberries as well as some dehydrated bananas and strawberries. The oil was truly amazing, so aromatic on both styles of dried fruit, the dehydrated bananas and strawberries tasted more 'buttery' and more 'oily' on the palate compared to the freeze dried. The freeze dried bananas and strawberries didn't work as planned, yields were awful, extremely disappointing. Perhaps the freeze dry method is too intense for the essential oils? I was really bummed out, I was hoping that the freeze dry method could lead to something special. Especially with all the nutritional value still intact with freeze dried fruit. Maybe something happens to the hydrocarbons?

Very interesting. How did you sample/taste this fruity goodness?

I own a e-liquid company, so we are constantly looking for new ways to make a desired flavor taste more flavorful if you will, in this case, we were running different case scenarios of bananas, i.e. freeze dried banana, air dried, and dehydrated. The dehydrated version looks and has the viscosity of movie theater popcorn 'butter'. But the smell was undeniable banana, the vial of this oil just screamed of bananas…however the taste was too cloy, but none the less very banana.

If you're using butane on fresh botanicals in an open vessel, then the butane will, ofcourse freeze the tissues solid. In which case, you'll need to select botanicals that contain most of their oleoresin in surface glands, similar to cannabis. You can observe some of the more common species with external oil glands below, including Lavender, Rosemary, Thyme, Sage, etc.

Yes. The greater the delta T across the cold trap, the smaller the trap can be for a given flow.

Hi Guys,
I need help...!!!!
I currently moved back from the US to the Netherlands.I lived in Florida and a friend of my got me hooked on BHO.I used to enjoy BHO in a regular e/cig vaporizer and the fitted cartridges. Before I left the states I got me some BHO cartridges and took them with me but now they are empty and it's unbelievable how hard to get it here...so I looked deeper into the process to make BHO by myself.I used different strains over the last couple weeks and the results were kind of different to what i got back in the states... I mean not that the bho wasn't working ...i got hammerd pretty much but the consistencie was ones pretty liquid brown and then ones oily caramel colored or creamy brown..Some of the bho worked in the cartridges and some of it doesn't...But the taste was kinda not what I expected...kinda burned taste....but I didn't want to waste the product so i mixed it with a flavored e-liquids but it's not the same what I had in the states

So please peeps help me with some information...
what I can do better or how I can avoid these taste...
I appreciate every help

Thank you!!!!
