Anyone try this thing out? Does it work? I'm skeptical and I don't feel like making my own...especially since its only 60$

Ya i have a couple i got from htg... They do reduce noise but i dont think much more than insulated ducting does..

Only really works to reduce noise at the exit if the silencer is at the end of the line without anymore room to pick up noise after the silencer.
It will make the exit air a little less turbulent, but it will still sound like a lot of air...
They can reduce some noise in the room no matter where they are used, but you can do just as well by removing bends and sags in the duct run

They help considerably on the swooshing sound of air that the powerful fans will make. Doesn't do much to silence the sound of the motor so much but definitely silences the air. Don't underestimate how loud the sound of the air will be. Silencer needed if a stealth grow. More than just a silencer will be needed to keep the sound from that fan down. A six" fan like in the photo running full blast will be loud.

ya I like the idea of a tent in my room but the 6" fan is way too loud as u guys know the noise is similar to a jet taking off lol....idk thought Id give this doo hickey a whirl. thx for the input

that and a fan controller should quiet things a bit. htg sells one for $20, I use one of the 6" fans with the controller turned down halfway and it makes a tremendous difference in the sound, plus I can turn it up full speed if I need to. been thinking on one of the mufflers myself. they have a demo video too

try putting the fan in a nice insulated cooler.it is not that hard cutting the holes in the sides for the ducts.that cut my 6inch fan sound at least 50%.i never tried a muffler after doing the cooler mod on my fan.i think i used a 32 qt coleman cooler

Phat's mufflers (http://phatfilter.com/phat-muffler/) use glass pack instead of foam. Should hold up longer and absorb more sound. Fiberglass is often frowned upon but they way they are put together I can't imagine many glass fibers are coming loose and being expelled.

I found this its the Panasonic whisper quiet...240 cfm and you cant even hear it running...200$ usd I think this is the ticket for single 400 or even 600 air cooled setup.

I have a fan speed controller it does work really well but I would like to keep the power of near full speed with much much less roaring...plus the fan hums pretty loud when you turn it down I think the controller cranks the voltage to the fan causing the loud hum.

Ya that muffler looks much better quality...I like the idea of mounting on the intake and blower side of the fan but then I wonder how much it restricts air flow. I am proob just knit picking the details....I didn't see the cost either
